Early Access Review
Great fun, the dialogue is uniquely silly & absolutely loaded with game references , the gods are memorable, and the mechanics are fun to steamroll. Looking forward to more content as the game develops.

Fix the retina-searing white frames whenever interacting with the crystal and I'd actually be able to tolerate playing the game, as it is I'm going to go ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ blind.

After submitting a number of requests for assistance in this item I feel like leaving a negative review is the only way to be heard -probably won't get any attention either. I love playing this game. It's gotten so far ahead of it's initial release promises and it has really developed into what I was expecting before it's initial release in 2014...

But I can't play it anymore: the full-screen white flashes during transitory actions (engaging/disengaging pulse engine, finish loading the game, etc.) turn my eyes into soup and give me migraines within 40 minutes. Please, please add a photosensitivity option disabling the white flashes, or at a minimum enable the shaders responsible for these flashes to be modded by the phenomenal modding community.
Being ignored by HG about something that seems trivial to accomplish and would massively improve game comfort is the reason why I wouldn't recommend the game to others- I really wish I could continue playing but it's not worth it anymore. HG if you can, feel free to email me in response to the zendesk support request I've sent, either the one in 2020 or 2022, your choice.

This game takes a chunk out of every bit of my favorite fiction genres. It asks questions such as: "What if the House from House of Leaves happened to be a corporate headquarters for the SCP Foundation?" and "What exactly does a janitor do in that kind of situation?", alongside "How do we make this a game where not only can you use guns but also SCP level objects without a ridiculous inventory management system?" and "This game should be more about narrative than blowing stuff up, how do we get stuff to blow up? How do we blow minds?"

The Ashtray Maze was easily one of my favorite moments of gameplay which embodied everything you'd want to see in a film that is driven by 80s progressive rock. If there were a DLC that was more oriented towards the psychedelic visual effects in that segment I'd buy it in a heartbeat, but I'm happy with what I got.

TL;DR - fun for a few hours but lack of mod support really kills long-term enjoyment. Don't pick this up till you see some mod support.

Enjoyed this game a bit but found that some QOL mods made for a much more enjoyable experience. Three years later I decide to try out the new content and found the same thing- the game is fun for a bit but QOL mods would make it much better. Digging into the drama regarding mods and their implementation (or lack thereof) in the game and the development schedule for mods being entirely absent from the developers actual goals (IE, we'll get to it when we get to it, not a priority right now, and one of our updates completely removed the possibility to mod efficiently), I'm going to have to re-shelve this until the ability for mods can be reintroduced.

You can be anything you want to be, so long as it's an alcoholic detective with a devil-may-care attitude. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, this game is awesome.

Ice-pick does it again. If you are a fan of compelling story, and gameplay that is both immersive, disturbing and beautiful, get this game!

One of the most thought-provoking games I've ever experienced, and I found it at a very desolate time in my life. The Void is not for everyone, but it certianly spoke to me.
