A true classic of the RTS genre which gets more and more popular every year.

Online it has a growing tournament scene, a ranked ladder, custom unranked games & lots of mod support. Offline it has more campaigns than I can count, Historical battles, Skirmish mode & a Custom map maker.

It has a simple design with the emergent complexity which still allows new innovative strategies after more than 20 years.

Northgard takes some of the best elements from across the RTS genre and creates something great. The story missions are fun and introduce you to the basic Clans and the gameplay elements, the first playthrough on Normal/Hard took me about 12 hours and with the side missions and Extreme difficulty has some decent reasons to replay.

I haven't tried the Conquest Gamemode or ragnorok gamemode yet but I'm excited to try them. The skirmish gamemode is what most players will play most, with a thriving multiplayer community there is a healthy ranked scene (which i am still wood tier) and although i haven't tried any mods yet there is also allot of modded games hosted with a healthy mod scene on the steam workshop.

Overall the gameplay feels like it takes the strategic planning and map control elements from Civilisation, the economy from Rise of Nations, And the Clan diversity similar to Age of Mythology (within the same faction). It meshes well together into something which feels very simple to learn but has allot of depth.

The DLCs are additional factions which tend to have more extreme elements than the originals, They seem to be a way to fund continued development and balances within the game and are certainly not necessary to enjoy the game. However they are cheap and add a decent amount of content with the new factions having unique gameplay and interesting features, if you fall in love with the game you will not regret buying them.

Amazing game! It examines war in a way that I haven't seen in any other game or film and the expansions each add a different dimension to the moral complexities. Overall the game provides an experience you won't forget.

Short and sweet, with a beautiful environment and engaging story.

Little to no replay value and short 5-6 hour story mean you should pick this up on sale.
