A recent update removed an announcer option and lots of other minor content for political reasons. I don't buy games to have bits and pieces excised randomly at some point down the line.

How the hell does this have overwhelmingly positive reviews?? It's not even finished!

Animals constantly move through terrain, light sources are just broken completely (a lighter casts more light than a torch or a flare? Lol what? Flares only produce significant light when thrown, not when held...etc.) which according to my reading was something broken with a patch and then just never fixed.

Wow the bar is low for this subgenre of games. Don't Starve and Subnautica are soooo much better than this they're in another realm. The enemies are kind of interesting, I'll give it that. Otherwise it plays like something that was made by a teenager who has not only never made a game, but hasn't even played one.

How did this game never catch on? Only 237 reviews on Steam??
One of the best and most polished indie games I've ever played. It's plays sort of like Gunstar Super Heroes for the GBA in terms of controls with Kirby's power copying gimmick, but you can also combine up to 3 of those powers. Crazy amount of content (took me 30 hours just to do the first character's campaign, then there's a whole other character who plays totally differently) that actually stays fresh despite the simple gameplay loop all the way through thanks to the ever-increasing scale/power of your character's abilities as well as the enemies'. It gets pretty wild near the end of hard mode, which btw is essentially a completely remixed campaign compared to normal, with totally new enemies, abilities, and twists. Top gamu

Worst thing Capcom ever did. Just awful lmao.
So much hard work (maps, monsters, movesets, armors, narratice, etc.) completely invalidated by one awful addition.

Worth the $11 I spent on it + Iceborne, but not much more. Probably the worst MH game since gen 3, mainly due to poorly-implemented clutch claw mechanics. New weapon movesets are great as are most of the new monsters, however, improved movement fluidity seems to have been used to excuse loose monster moveset design. Almost every late G-rank monster gets flailing or AOE attacks that just slap the entire city block around them, and hitzone changes made with the Iceborne update (which you're forced into regardless of whether you own that expansion or not) ruin the game balance and force you to use clunky and tedious clutch claw mechanics. Mods can mitigate clutch claw issues somewhat and I'll probably continue playing using them, but the game as it was released is what I'm reviewing so it gets a thumbs down.

Also the siege battles are somehow even worse than previous games because some CAN'T be done solo as far as I can tell. They also haven't removed/fixed the universally reviled MH4 addition of ledges, for some reason, and in fact added to it with the (much less annoying, tbf) addition of slopes. Why Capcom thinks unexpected movement and dodging disruptions might be fun is a mystery.

I have around 400 hours in each of the previous entries but I doubt this one will get that much time.

Some of the least satisfying gunplay ever put into a game. How is this game well-liked?
Also has issues on modern systems.

While it has its share of flaws (siege battles are sometimes tedious, diplomacy is a tad barebones, a couple halfassed races, ranged kind of OP, etc.), TWW2 is great a timesink if you need one. My play time as of this review is already at 320 hours and I've only completed 2 campaigns. There are at least 11 more races for me to play as (probably will skip beastmen/chaos, the races I mentioned before that need reworking) and thus at least 11 more campaigns that I'm likely to do before I'm done. Just to give an idea of the content here.

The DLC may seem excessive but as long as you get it on sale, the value for your money is actually pretty good. The content you get even with just the base game and FreeLC is pretty generous on it's own, giving you access to 5 races I believe as well as some bonus lords. The devs have been killing it with their DLC lately and most of the paid stuff for this game does a good job of adding playstyle variety and interesting new mechanics.

Probably the best game in its genre, very highly recommended for anyone with any interest at all in RTS/4X games. Do note that you'll need a pretty good machine to run it well at high settings, though; I run a GTX 1060 and an i5 4690k (both overclocked) and I barely get satisfactory framerates at 1080p, medium settings.
