Won't play certain MP3 files?
Hi, I've been having issues with certain mp3 files playing in this game recently. Most other songs work fine in this game, but some new songs I got in an album off of amazon don't seem to work. Any particular reason why?
PS: I tried converting them to .ogg files but it didn't work. Do I need some sort of decoding software for that?

yes, there are a very few mp3's that won't work for some reason. I have a couple that I downloaded that won't work also. Every one that I have ripped myself work fine. Not sure what the difference is, since they are all mp3

Some of my old MP3s don't work either, except in my case it crashes the game. It's probably some codec/encoder issue, but what the exact issue is, I don't know.

So, not a solution in this problem?

Remove the ID3 tag info from the mp3 file(s).

It's linked to the size of the ID3 header. If that's too large, the file won't play (it won't crash the game anymore, though, so that's good).

My guess is that they've used a smallish fixed-size buffer to read the header into. Normally this would work fine unless there's an embedded image in the file. Since those can be large, the full header won't fit into the buffer and parsing the file fails.

The main culprit seems to be the cover art (the APIC tag). If I remove that, the song plays fine. Make sure it's really removed, though, and not merely zeroed out. If the file hasn't changed size by 100kb or so, it wasn't removed.

I could point you to a tool that can do this, but I'm not sure that's allowed >_>

I run all my mp3s for ets through, and i can see cearns worry of posting a link so i shall just say MP3tag :) free and a very useful tool for not only removing idv tags and cover art but for adding them too if any of your music collection needs some tag attention
