My comment on Iron Heart mission(chapter 4)
My comments in Chinese:
1.你将《英雄连》游戏引擎的潜能发挥到了极致!(尽管该引擎还有很多缺陷与局限性,譬如敌我单位隔着障碍物明明互相看不见,子弹或炮弹却能互相穿透射击;但这不是你的错。)
2.你做的该系列战役比Relic官方原有战役更精彩百倍,但同时增加了不少难度与不确定性,也更加刺激。最令我惊艳与兴奋的是你竟然可以让士兵走上房顶,甚至还有竖直的梯子可以供士兵攀爬;你实现了比官方战役更立体、更复杂的士兵位置与地图。
3.唯一令人难以忍受的就是无法存档,由于起初不熟悉剧情攻略,只能死一次重来一次(我已记不清我到底重来了多少遍才通关的),这很耗费时间。记得您好像曾解释过这是为什么,不过我记不清了,您能否再解释一下为何社区制作的战役无法像官方战役或自定义本地AI对战那样可以存档?

1.You have explored and developed the potential of the Essence engine to its most! (Although the engine has lots of defects and limitations, like units can shoot through some obstacles like walls which was supposed shouldn’t be shot through; but I know this is not your fault.)
2.Your “Iron Heart” mission series are much more splendid than Relic’s official campaigns, but adding much more difficulty and uncertainty in the meantime, also more stimulation. What amazed me most is you actually even can see soldiers walk to the roof, and there even has upright ladders to let soldiers climb on; comparing to the official one, you realized much more stereoscopic soldier positions and more complicated maps.
3.The only thing that made me feel frustrating is no ‘save game’ function. Due to unfamiliar to the strategy of your mission series at beginning, I had to repeat restarting operation again and again. ( I forgot how many times I had restarted until accomplished the mission.), and this wastes time so much. I faintly remember you ever explained the reason of this, but I can’t remember. Could you explain again about why a community made mission can’t have ‘save game’ feature just like what official campaigns or customized skirmish with AI could?

About engine, I believe Omega might have more to say to this matter, but I can say that engine is able to support this kind of combat (talking about one man squad fighting in CQB) but omega simply cant make it better then it is with given tools.
I am really glad that you noticed this elevation changes, its basically just an illusion of using ladder for example. I tried to deliver something more what you cant see in ordinary game experience in MP. Main problem with MP maps is that there is too much destruction and there is incufitient number of objects suited for this kind of game play manipulation (making ladders, platforms and stuff like that). I tried to implement this feature in to normal 1v1 MP map called "Ruse" (its in my workshop if you wanna take a look) but appearantly it wasnt what players wanted. So what i think is that this feature is suited just for compaign maps.
About save game feature, i think that different coding which is core for Omegas maps is also main problem that makes game crash after loading in to game. I might be wrong but I believe that Omega will respond too and correct me.

Firstly, thank you for your comment! It is very much appreciated! Also thanks Kbal for answering! :)

Secondly, to answer your question about the 'save game' feature. This is both by design and also by limitation. Before I start a project I always do an analysis on what is unique to deliver. The more innovative and unique it is, the better.

By design, we wanted to make a campaign that is extremely difficult but very rewarding when you finish the mission. As such, the best way to do this is to disable the 'save game' feature. Otherwise we risk making the missions so hard it's impossible to finish for everyone.

By limitation means I am unable to code in a save feature. Every time I try to code in the save feature the map crashes after I load a saved game. This is something I am unsure about as I don't know what is causing the loaded game to crash.

Overall, the unavailability of the save feature is mainly a problem that needs to be solved by coding. If I do not receive help with the coding I cannot introduce the 'save game' feature unfortunately.

To be honest the lack of a save option in the series is more due to technical limitations rather than a fully intended feature. We did the best with what we had and in consideration of a lack of a save feature, we instead chose to make a 'challenging' campaign for players to finish. I suppose this idea works for some players, as the Dark Souls series of games show.

I appreciate your suggestions for modding in other games but right now I simply do not have the time to get into too many projects. I am not only a gamer but also work in fairly time-consuming jobs and also have other many personal projects I work on. Modding maps in CoH2 is like a simple way for me to 'refresh' my innovation side of my brain. It make innovating fun and interactive, which is not something that usually happens in any other setting when it comes to innvoation to be honest.

Your review is very long and I feel my reply does not do justice to your effort. What I will say is I am familair with almost every single one of your suggestions and I know what their communities and games can offer. However I chose CoH2 as I thought it was the most fun in the least time-consuming fashion for making maps and mods. But thank you for your kind suggestions!

Please do continue to review all my creations as you see fit. I have read your entire reply and feel you give many great insights so clearly you know your games and gaming communities! :) Please keep in touch and continue to leave your brilliant reviews as we make more maps and mods!
