Looting?
Hey there, I've just started playing this mod, I've fought a couple of bands of orcs and such, but I don't get the option to loot them after? Is there a way to loot or has it been removed so I'm required to buy it from vendors and such?

The vast majority of loot comes in the form of scrap metal that you sell to vendors. Early on, when you are fighting small groups of enemies, you will frequently not get any loot at all. Once you start fighting higher quality foes (armies, deserters) you will start getting more loot.

Due to being true to lore, we have also disabled by default the option of crossdressing, as a Gondorian wouldn't likely ever wear looted Orc armour, and vice versa. Instead after battle, "metal scraps" are dropped, which represent salvageable equipment and can then be traded with your smiths who require resources, to get proper faction gear from them.

You can turn this option OFF through the Camp Menu --> TLD options

Ah, thank you very much for the swift reply :)

Occasionally some usables are dropped. Usually horses, but if you're an evil faction then you will ocassionally see drops from deserters that match their culture/faction - e.g., renegade corsairs will drop corsair equipment, mountain goblins will drop orc equipment, etc. Supply trains drop food sometimes as well. They also drop tools, which hopefully will be incorporated into the crafting skill someday (hint/poke/^5)

:)

Would love to pick up the ball with regards to crafting, but that was someone else's project and I have no idea what he had planned for that. There were no documentation (that I know of), nor has he responded to my queries :(

Kham, is it a design or coding issue?
Kham  [developer] Jun 12, 2016 @ 1:09pm
Which one? Tools being dropped? Not sure. I'll have to dig in the person's code for that. For now, I haven't looked at it nor touched it as, like I said, it's someone else's project.

I meant crafting, was wondering if it was a problem from figuring out where/how the code for it worked or if the overall design just wasn't finished - like what the skill is supposed to do, how it scales, etc.

Oh ok, yea, both.. I don't have the overall picture of what the person wanted to do with it, nor was there much documentation about it. There were discussions about how with crafting you can turn low grade metal scraps to higher grade ones, but that's all I saw. I'm sure there was something else they had in mind for it.

Regarding code, he just put the skill in, nothing else.

Ah, got you. If you're not planning on just removing it, think there's any potential for using the skill to do things like improve weapons/armor? Like use X number of high grade metal scraps to increment a Rusty Something to a Normal Something, kind of thing? I know there's an overall vision to keeping it within the written subject matter of LOTR (which is what makes this mod amazing imo) so it's kind of a delicate hand between balance and vision.
