But why? The sword was the only 1/2H sword that was actually unique and really useful.
WIll something similar ever be implemented in-game again?
The design was also really nice. Seemed exactly like something Arathorn would bear. Really comfy sword, took me forever to level relations with Imladris to get it too. Darn it all to heck, I miss it already.
All me hopes to see it again took a blow. Perhaps something similar could be implemented in the future? Give it to me straight and hard my man, can I get my hopes up that I'll see a similar item in game in the future?
If there is a demand for a 1/2h sword reward, we might look at placing it somewhere else.
I think there's other people who miss it, although my evidence for this is mostly anecdotal from online forums and friends that play it.
Could I make the suggestion that if something similar does make a return, it's a design based on the realistic swords such as Anduril, Glamdring and the sword of the Witch King? Not necessarily based ON them per se, but its practical design. Arathorn's sword brought the same aura of "realism" and practicality as the ones mentioned and I think it grounds the Fantasy element more in a way.
This is not necessarily a good thing.
Why was it so good? Let me count the ways:
1) Awesome against armor. It had about 40 piercing damage on a swing when used two handed.
2) Ludicrous length for something that can be used with a shield. 1.25m if I recall correctly.
3) Speed so high that it could be used one-handed and still be blazing fast.
It was simply overpowered. I often get asked about bаsтагd swords in Warband, and Arathorn's used to be one of my examples of bаsтагd sword worth using, together with Holy Avenger from Phantasy and Skyfall from Perisno. For the two same main reasons, by the way. Fast and long.

By the way, I did not use it. I did not like the model. When I played a good character, I was trying to have him look lore appropriate... With my evil ones, the best helmet looked so far out, I made the rest of my gear look outlandish as well.
Swords like this or like the Rune weapons from PoP, that are difficult to attain and can only be reached through grinding at later levels, are a great reward for someone's time.
That's why I miss it. Has the same reach as the Nazgul sword IIRC, but it's not as fast. So I'd deem it appropriate. Can't even be compared to the swords like the Serpent one (which I don't think I ever got in any playthrough) or like the Greenwood Relic Sword (as OP as the Nazgul sword). Were it not for the low speed, the Sword of Eorl would be the best one in game.
I haven't properly touched the game yet since this was implemented because every time I go back I have no idea what to use.
Those are solid options, my only issue with them is that when the shield breaks, I'm left with a slower sword. Great damage however. Carrying a bow in this mod complicates things.
Christ, I love this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ mod so much. Easily the best one ever made, I'm willing to fight whoever disagrees.
Much shorter, by 43cm (a foot and a half), in the save I have.
Much shorter, by 28cm (nearly a foot), according to the guide.
This one is strictly two handed. The shield makes a huge difference, especially when dueling enemy lords, or trying to close on armor piercing archers from Isenguard or Mirkwood.
Once again, two-handed only.
Once again, two-handed only.
It's 28cm, or almost a full foot shorter, as well. That's huge is melee.
As I said before, Arathorn's sword could be used with a shield, had the reach of a two-hander, a respectable speed even one-handed, and armor piercing damage that is more than enough to kill anything but a troll with one hit. I have killed the old style trolls with one hit, by the way, but it won't do for the new ones.
With it gone, balance is better.
The next best sword that can be used with a shield is the Masterwork Galadhrim Sword, which has the speed, is 17cm shorter, and has cutting damage. The damage is the least important, because by the time he won, my elven character was getting 260% damage anyway.
As for the Evil side, at the time I played, they had absolutely NO good one handed rewards. My characters all ended the War with bog standard balanced corsair sabers (I do not remember what the actual name was, but I think it referenced the kraken) Considering how deadly good archers can be, it was a damn shame not to have one handed rewards.
By the way, here[i.imgur.com] is a screenshot of what Arathorn's sword can achieve, on a map where enemies can't get good line of sight to shoot, and where an elf can jump from ledge to ledge to shake pursuit. By the way, the shield is only pristeen because the chest fixes it.
Notice how long the sword is.
