The Last Days of the Third Age
Isengard's Last Stand - How does it work?
I've been trying to figure out how to destroy Isengard for a while and ended up going to help Gondor.

Isengard sent the Isengard Legion out, which (I believe) was defeated offscreen. It doesn't seem to be marching around anyways.

I just got a quest, "Isengard's Last Stand" from King Theoden, so I went and followed him around for a while. He stood outside of Isengard, a few other armies showed up, and... They dispersed.

So... Do I sit around waiting for him to go back and launch an attack?

Sorry, from your message, I gathered that you did and he went sat in front of isengard. Are you sure the Legion is defeated? If it is, then isengard should be defeated already and the quest complete.
I believe that the Legion was defeated before the most recent updates came in. But there's certainly no sign of it now. The tower is still yellow on the map and the generals/'lords' will still run out from time to time.

The Legion definitely appeared a long time ago, (Many in game weeks, perhaps 100 days? Or more) and was (as far as I can tell) defeated quite a while ago. I thought that someone would lead a siege on Isengard after that.

I do remember a save where I got a message that Rohan had defeated Isengard while I was away doing other things, which was after the Legion appeared. I assume that's what happened. However, I reloaded as I wanted to take part in destroying the faction.
