WTF are the dev's smoking speculatory megathread
For the purposes of raising discussion and debate in regard to any questionable gameplay decision(s) present in the current build of LWOTC that were perhaps not present in previous builds the game, either WOTC, LW2, Vanilla. This thread is to chat about the things we find uneasy or frustrating and more importantly bring suggestions to the table on how they might be fixed.

Soo, just played my first mission. Had to stop before completing it, because I have no idea how to evac my squad. There's no instructions, pop ups or anything/

The basic first tutorial mission of xcom 2 teaches you how to throw an evac flare. The mod also doesn't tell you how to move your soldiers, but some basics have to be expected.

A lot of the missions you're required to call in evac. Which is done by selecting a soldier and either; pressing a button on the top right corner of the screen (I don't exactly remember which one, tho) or pressing the P key

It may have been a while since you last played gate crasher, but as I have just played it, I can say without a doubt it mentions nothing about using a flare to evac. The mission just ends abruptly just like vanilla xcom.

they aren't talking about gatecrasher, and they don't mean the first mission of LWOTC. They mean in the tutorial for vanilla xcom 2, they show you how to throw a flare. if you don't know how to throw an evac flare you shouldn't be playing LWOTC. Play vanilla xcom 2 first so you can learn the basics.

Serious question, why does a mission timing out delete your resistance havens? There's no warning or popup like in original LW2 for expiring missions, and no pause. and if you forget, you're screwed because it will autosave immediately after your region gets deleted. This is super not fair and super not fun. Why does it do this? Deleting your region if you miss something shouldn't be a thing or at least it should be an optional rule.

Having to babysit a mission to make sure you don't accidentally miss the launch window with the consequence being you instantly loose potentially HOURS of time on a resistance haven getting them up to max members through several missions, all of that wasted. Gone, through no fault of your own? What the heck

And - not to mention, it bugs out your squad. I now have 10 soldiers that just disappeared and are permanently "on mission" forever. My campaign is now lost entirely because of that. Wow.

That hasn't changed from LW2, I'm pretty sure. You get the alert that there's a retaliation, but no reminder for an "important" mission. We should add that ("ignoring this mission will have dire consequences"). Just requires some effort and time.

I don't understand how it bugged out your ten soldiers. It's not an infiltration mission, so how did you lose them?

You can only send 8 soldiers on those types of missions. A mission like that with 10 soldiers sounds like mod added mission.

I'm not sure what happened and the crash log didn't help much this time. It was a supply raid mission, i had 11 hours to infiltrate it but there was no warning or game pause or anything, possibly because I was enroute to another location when it timed out. It deleted the haven and the soldiers infiltrating it were permanently set to 'infiltrating: 5 days" forever.

I of course am playing with other mods, who doesn't? But the only mods I could think of that might change missions or the avenger's behavior are:
-Mission Overhaul:Core and Mercury, but it was supposed to be a supply raid?
-Stop Wasting my Time / Still stop wasting my time (?) since they change avenger speed on geoscape and speed up how fast time passes.
So I don't know, maybe there's some issue there.
I have a bunch more but given most of them are qol or cosmetic I doubt they're at fault. Maybe when I feel willing to start over once more I can try playing without those and see if it happens again.

Edit: I also have ABA: Better missions, Additional Mission Types Redux, and Covert Action Missions on as well. I just forgot about those! I suppose it shouldn't be too surprising one of them messed up. To be fair, they work fine together normally.

I don't know if it was actually 10 that got sent out. It was a supply raid mission that bugged out. The only mods I have which change missions are the Mission Overhaul: Core / Mercury mods, so maybe it's their fault. Who knows, I'm not versed in code.

Well you'll at least be glad to hear that the next update will have a feature where a warning dialog pops up if a retaliation is about to expire.

I appreciate that.

Is it normal that soldiers get a new rank after each battle and abilities are worth zero points? Is this a bug?
ansient Dec 21, 2021 @ 11:03am
Regular soldiers do not use AP for class perks on level up. Only hero soldiers use AP for this (and with a Training Center you can always spend hero soldier level-up AP on other things instead, if the class perks at a rank aren't interesting)

The amount of XP required to level may be 1 mission for the first few ranks, but will require more missions later. You can install several different mods: Show me the XP, [WOTC] Soldier Info Redux, and/or [WOTC] Extended Personnel Info to have ways of seeing the current "kill" XP and what's needed for level up. Mission XP is given when a mission is successful.
