Suggestion to fix food issues
Hi , there is a problem with ai and food availablility. A lot of citiy states that start with 20+ pops at begining usually starve themselves out 10-20 years in game and their pop drops below 10.

This problem is caused because AI a lot of times doesnt take available trades or focuses food recources when it needs them.

The second problem after you fix that will be that there is not enough food resources on the map.

The solution in my oppinion could be to make every port in combination with a research tech (available from the begining of the game) to all factions that have a major river or coastline territory with a port to provide the fish resource. With fish quantatiy increasing with port levels and possibly freeman number ? Did not freeman, citizens and nobles also work in those times.. or slave number if no other choice i guess.. Another help with this would be to add some buildings like a granary to most cities at game start. City states and empires did not exist without proper granaries. Increasing the inital food capacity per territoy to be higher could work as well.

With ports providing the fish resource you now have plenty of territories to add more food resources and others wich are sorely needed.

Also I suggest that the borderline policy should decrease food consumption as sort of a evacuation of cities before sieges policy, while increased manpower should have its own policy or merged with bleed them dry but with added debuff of decreased freeman happines.

Forts under siege with no food in storage should surender a lot faster..

Another problem that may arise from this is to much pops ? And I guess the fix for that is the events like fires , plagues, earthquakes, volcanos, floods, famines and all the other fun stuff

Thanks to everyone for your hardwork on these updates to the game guys, without you game sucks and paradox abandoned the project.

Some more ideas here for future updates:

Would be nice if you can add different upgrades for republics/ tribes / kingdoms. Or continue with vanilla idea of giving nations unique territory improvments, this will further give some unique faction flavor.

But overall the buffs with % from techs and improvments need to be balanced to downside a bit and there should be more diversity in terms of army numbers and this could be solved with the use of mercanaries , there should be a greater number of smaller merc units 3-4k. AI combat needs to be fixed , they should group up more when looking for battle and greeks should use mercs more.

A bit more dynamic vassal system with ability to change vassal type with a relation debuff/pi cost, give vassals permission to declare wars in which you can participate or not.

There should be no time limit on joining wars. I dont really understand this block, you cant really make a new ally while you are in a war anyway.

More politics, events and character interactions would be nicer to. For example when making a vassal ability to install someone from your court as ruler in order to get rid of a disloyal character or a potential rival to your primary heir. Revolts should happen even for vassals. Seperate peace treaty has no alternative option.

Finally, more culture mechanics. A particular culture in your country might not like the fact that your are declaring war on their culture homeland, sacking cities of particular culture and other things should also effect culture dynamics. Perhaps you have a chance to get the granary fire event if you have those pop culture in a city while at war with a country of their culture.

I have felt since the release of Imperator that there should be a city building called 'market garden' or something that added 2 or 3 food maybe.
