Appreciate the response, honestly, as long as the headsets actually work I'd personally be thankful, lol. But yeah, at least from my friend group the literal first thing we've done with new headsets is blast the batteries out into the trash somewhere. It's just no fun to have something that's ready to explode on you without any real input.
Though the headset system isn't perfect either, bots should spawn with batteries and not consume battery charge.
I just don't know how you are expected to maintain 3 or more sets on a new game. If you're playing with a hardcore mod config it can take hours to cross 1 map, but the batteries only lasts a few minutes.
I feel the game is already under enough inventory micro strain to where swapping out headsets and batteries for yourself and AI crew so frequently borders on lunacy.
More worrying is that they run out even if not used at all. I think its reasonable to expect headsets to last several orders of magnitude longer than they currently do.
I know a lot of people loathe the headset batteries with a passion, but they add extra depth to traitor rounds, some hardcore mods like the high-stakes neurotrauma/immersive mods, and some other roguelike mods that demand strategic resource management. It's also something we never knew we needed in our campaign as it is surprisingly fun to have one of our sub-duty crewmembers on comm duty, mainly the captain or engineer in my group of 5, that always has a headset running while the rest of the crew use their batteries more strategically for emergency use or regular check-ups.
A nice way of fixing the battery problem while also working around this fun "Comm Officer" idea is by reducing the volatility of the batteries and the radio range for normal headsets so they can only really work well within the radius of a large submarine (working from the leftmost side of the R-29 to its rightmost side, for example), and adding a new long-range headset that sends and receives communications over a distance much greater than the average headset for use in mining, salvage, ruin, or recovery missions; but requiring much more dangerous and expensive batteries to function. This long-range headset can communicate with standard headsets within its large radius, and would be best used while inside the submarine, or sparingly outside the submarine, as you probably don't want your headset to blow up while you're inside an atmospheric diving suit of any kind...
If you do remove the batteries: Please make a standalone mod - maybe an "Immersive Batteries" mod - for those of us who enjoy the added chaos of having one more thing that can go wrong in the already extremely technical and mechanically over-saturated, high-pressure game that is Barotrauma.
