The Malkavian quest "the biggest prank" is also of debatable benefit.
The Wyrm tainted fae want to unleash the Black Death on everybody - including themselves. Sane people would have created a cure for their own kith - they didn´t.
Nergalite Baali literally want to raise hell.
Some factions in WoD are just a danger to themselves and to others.
Well, the Fae are supposed to be the personification of humanity's dreams and nightmares. So a faction that wants to kill literally everything on earth is actually perfectly reasonable to some of them.
The mad wyrm, that devours it´s own flesh in it´s madness, is also a coherent fiction or archetype.
They might be a valid choice for powergamers, but there are more obvious factions to explore first. Freedom of choice entails the freedom to do stupid ♥♥♥♥ and screw yourself.
It would be very WoD to devote several campaigns just to that outcome.
"If you follow the Wyrm very successfully you gain immediate personal power but at a high cost to your associates and your long term prospects."
Seeing as Karl Schreckt is already a canonical anime protagonist for the setting, I had him learn sorcery and used Alchemy to turn into a Werewolf, then joined the BSD's and had Baba Yaga turn him into an Abomination.
I then proceeded to learn Demonlogy and pact himself to the leader of the LUST demons that's under Baba's employ.
Which I then proceeded to diablerize Absimiliard and kill Baba Yaga in the process.
SO, Karl is now a 3rd generation, Garou Abomination, with access to Demonic Investments and their Arcana.
You think he has a shot of taking down Caine, if that were implemented?
Lilith supports his bad habits with dark gifts and he then has to avoid paying the price for those lessons. In some tales Lilith appears to be some kind of demon princess.
His feat then is to slip the pact and keep the gifts. Many disciplines are awfully similar to demon powers. If I wanted to kill him I wouldn´t try to out-evil Caine. I would try to convince him to repent.
Kill them with kindness and all of that.
Probably because Lilith originally learned those disciplines from consorting with Angels and Demons, before passing them on to Caine.
No one said she worshiped demons and angels. Lilith is iconic for her fiercely independent attitude, and outright refusal to submit herself to anyone else's authority, including God's.
We know that 10 dot disciplines are literally referred to in V20 as "plot device." Like, seriously, there's no description on what the 10 dot powers are supposed to do, other than whatever the story teller requires them to do.
So, if Caine has access to abilities which are that powerful, how much stronger would the being who taught him those powers have to be?
9 dot disciplines are pretty much plot devices as well. In one endtime scenario the gen 4 Baali in Mexico opens up a hellgate with daimonion 9. He has to sacrifice himself, though. Ur Shugli does some nasty stuff with Quietus 9. He unlearns the ability after every usage, though. The main difference seems to be that 9 dot plot devices are one-shot abilities with a severe price to pay.
It is suggestes that the Tremere developed blood sorcery with the assistance of demons. Goatrix goes off the deep end afterwards. Flesh crafting may have been sponsored by Cupala, a powerful earthbound demon in Transylvania. On the positive side Valeren was sponsored by the Carthayans, Gangrel spirit magic by a powerful spirit of nature etc. So not all teachers are completely godlike.
Werewolves, in contrast, can learn their gifts from their ancestors, their totems, totems of their homies, random gafflings they met by chance, etc.
You are thinking of Caitiff. The clanless vampires who don't share an inherent connection with any known Antedeluvian.
In 5th edition, all Thinbloods are Caitiff; but prior to it, they merely had a chance of being one.
