Drought event - feedback & ideas
Drought seems far too severe to me. Quote, "Trees become dead". All trees? It would be bad enough if it kills all crops. But to also kill all the trees is just too cruel.

Any drought that is severe enough to kill trees would be an extreme - an event that breaks local weather/rain records. Certainly something that severe must last more than a few days or weeks. Even then, such a severe drought would almost never kill all trees.

I speak from some experience: We had such a record-breaking drought a few years ago and it only killed some of them. (It was spotty, but perhaps tree death was between 1% and 5%?) Trees are far hardier than most people realize.

Further, since this is an official Vanilla Expanded mod, shouldn't this event work alongside the plants and gardening stuff added by other mods in this collection?

Among other things, "Vanilla Plants Expanded" adds the Peach Tree and Opuntia, both of which have "Arid Shrubland & Desert" listed as their biome. Shouldn't such trees be rather drought tolerant if they grow in such a climate?

The description for the Drought event compares it with a cold snap: Quote, "...just like a cold snap". But Vanilla Plants Expanded adds Beet plant, which "Does not die from cold." It also adds Cabbage plant, which "Stops growing during toxic fallout, but doesn't die." Likewise, to continue this trend, shouldn't there be some crop which "Does not die from drought"?

What about the Eggplant? It quote, "Receives a growth boost in temperatures above 36C, oetherwise quite inefficient" Also, it has the restriction of "Requires 71% soil fertility". Combined, those do not make the Eggplant sound appealing to me. However, if it also had "Stops growing during Drought, but doesn't die" or similar, that would make it a bit more enticing. (Nevermind the rarity of a Drought event.)

In Vanilla Cooking Expanded, I have to wonder if it would be fair if Allspice and/or Sugarcane should have "Does not die from drought". I've read that Carolina Allspice is drought tolerant. I've also read that there are some varieties of suger cane with drought resistance.

Finally, what about the "Sprinkler" building in "Vanilla Furniture Expanded - Farming"? I mean... it provides water to surrounding plants. Shouldn't such plants be completely immune to drought?

This makes so much sense, the drought event is something that happens in real life yet it is missing so much realism which confuses me.

I was browsing the Dubs Bad Hygiene wiki and then I got to this page:

Irrigation[github.com]
Quote, "If you have an abundance of water then you can make use of the irrigation sprinklers, these will turn on at 5am every morning..."

That got me thinking of this discussion topic. If support is eventually added for the Sprinklers in 'Vanilla Furniture Expanded - Farming' so using it will protect nearby crops from Drought events, then I think it would be cool (pun not intended) if support was also added for the "irrigation sprinklers" in Dubs Bad Hygiene. After all, that is a pretty popular mod, what with nearly 300 k current subscribers.

@Thundercraft It's already the case. Did you try it ?

The drought is kind of op.
I got one, it doesn't last nearly as shortly as a cold snap does.
I've gotten every event in this mod atleast once, (Yes, even the inhumanely long ones)
And I survived all of them except the drought.
It completely killed off all the animals in my colony, and all the wildlife, I couldn't grow any plants whatsoever. I had 0 ways to gain food. It was either cannibalism, or death. And the drought, all together, lasted 16 days.
I don't know if the lenght was a bug, or just it being insane.

Drought is insanely punishing for how long it runs. you need a fully stocked colony with an overfilled fridge if you want to survive, not to mention the impossibility of feeding livestock with fields that can't grow grass. This event needs adjustment, and badly, because it can and has totally ruined multiple colony starts for me. Rancher ideology becomes totally non-viable with this thing lurking in the event table, and I've taken to force-aborting it instead of bothering dealing with another dead colony.

@ArmorPlated You can feed livestock by making a caravan so they can graze outside.
