Hello Folks,

for today I have a pack of ten really common East German street lights for you. The LBL2 with its distinctive design came in three sizes with one or two yellow-shining light bulbs.
As a special I also included a really rare floodlight with twelve of these lamp-heads.
These street lights are essential if you really want to capture the feeling of a (former) East German city, or maybe even soviet city.
They obviously fit really well with my "Plattenbau" assets, but should also fit any other type of city.

This street light design was created at the start of the 1960s with its destinctive design in the shape of a water drop, or even a small boat. Its German nicknames "Tropfen" and "Schiffchen" hint at that.
The design originated in Leipzig, hence the name LBL (Leuchtenbau Leipzig).
The two small versions of the lamp-heads are made of aluminum, the larger version of polyester resin.
This type of street light was erected pretty much everywhere in East Germany, and quickly became one of the many things of daily life, one would associate with the GDR.

As for where some of the versions originated from, here is a list:
  • LBL2-12x flood light: Industrial area in Chemnitz.
  • LBL2-5x metal: Berlin, Strausberger Platz.
  • LBL2-2+1x and LBL2-2x: Berlin, Karl-Liebknecht-Strasse.
  • LBL2-2x concr2: Berlin, Am Seegraben.
  • LBL2-2x concr1: Rasthof Rodaborn (since removed).
  • LBL2-1x concr3: Chemnitz, Saydaer Strasse.
  • LBL2-1x concr2: Berlin, Mahlsdorfer Strasse.
  • LBL2-1x wall: Halle, Friedemann-Bach-Platz.

Big shoutout to this website[www.bildergalerie-der-berliner-strassenlaternen.de], where I found most of the reference photos I needed for this project.

The name of each included street light indicates the number of heads per pole (1x to 12x) and what they are mounted on (concrete poles No.1-3, metal pole, flood light or wall mount).

The street lights can be found under their names, starting with "DDR street light LBL2" or alternatively by searching for "East German".
The main head of the lamps is often color-mapped to create a bit of variety between the street lights. For the metal pole versions and the flood light, the poles are colorable instead.
If you want to replace your road's street lights with these ones, I suggest using the "Network Skins mod".
You can also just place them manually, like any normal prop.

Many of the textures are shared between the street lights, so using the Loading Screen Mod to cut down on file size is advised.

Thankst! This reminds me of how I created one directly modelled after the real-life version in Teardown, about a year ago.

And how do you like the idea of modeling the Czechoslovak hunchback "Ambassador Electrovit"? Also a very popular lantern in the COMECON countries.

In the USSR, similar lanterns were produced under the designation RKU-01-250. They were also really produced in huge quantities, but I never liked their design. However, thank you very much for modeling them, it's very, very good. Good luck!
