Description
Ever wanted to build tall as Luxembourg, or make Ethiopia the industrial capital of the world? With Industrial Expansion, those dreams are now a reality.

This mod adds 5 new buildings to the game. The Industrial Expansion provides each state with +2 building slots per level, and additional research allows you to build extra levels. It can be unlocked by research after first researching Basic Machine tools. The other four buildings are extractors for each metal (steel, aluminium, tungsten, chromium) which provide +4 of the resource to the state. Additional research increases the amount per extractor, and the first level can be researched with no prerequisites.

There are game rules that can enable or disable both Industrial Expansions and/or extractors, so if you only want to play your campaign with one but not the other, you have the ability to choose!

Compatibility
This mod is fully compatible with any mod that doesn't:
  • Alter research trees or their layout
  • Add new buildings to the game
  • Change the layout of the state view window

It may work with mods that do these things but there will probably be issues, most likely in the form of incorrect UI layout.

FAQ
  • Q: Does the AI build Industrial/Resource Expansions?
    A: Sometimes. I'm not super knowledgeable about how AI decision-making works so I've left it pretty much untouched in the current version of the mod. I have seen them make the buildings on rare occasions in my own games.

  • Q: Does this work with XYZ mod?
    A: See above. If you're unsure, give it a try on a new save file.

  • Q: Can you make this compatible with XYZ mod?
    A: Maybe. It depends on the level of complexity and my time constraints, leave a comment and I will respond when I can.

  • Q: When update?
    A: When I make it.[i.pinimg.com] I keep up with this game on a regular basis so after a new DLC it shouldn't be too long. Don't ask in the comments because I won't respond, instead I will comment when I have update-related news to share.

  • Q: Can I make my own version of Industrial Expansion, or make a patch for other mods?
    A: You have my full approval to use the resources in this mod in any way you see fit. The only exceptions are re-uploading Industrial Expansion unmodified and in full, or attempting to charge money for anything you make using the mod resources.

Hello, I'm aware of the issues people are having but I haven't been able to reproduce them. Please let me know what DLCs and mods (if any) you are using and I will look into it.

Major bug: As of 05/11/2025 with this mod enabled on game version 1.16.5 you can no longer open the research tree to research anything. Upon clicking the research button the screen flashes as if the research screen is trying to open then immediately closes rendering this mod unusable.

Hey I have a question somehow when I have this mod activated I can`t open the research tree anymore. Might that have to do something with that this mod is for an a little bit older version of the game now?

Confirmed, the change is tied to Expert AI.

I think this may be some weird conflict with Expert AI. After enabling it, I went from five levels of expansion (with research increasing the number of slots opened from +2) and the four resource factories (each capped at, I believe, five slots; research increases output) to twenty levels of expansion (no research, all +5 IIRC) and the total number of resource factories set to twenty (any quantity of each; no specific research, output seems fixed, unless it's linked to the Excavation techs).

Could be another mod overriding it, though. Just seems weird if it used the same icons (expansion and the four resources).
