Description

FOREWARNING
-----------------------------
You may not use anything from my mod, in whole or in part, without my explicit permission.
I will relax this at a later date.

I have NOT touched Country-specific colors at all.

Day/Night cycle not supported.

COMPATIBILITY:

Make sure to port any conflicting 00_terrain.txt changes to !_terrain.txt
e.g. forest penalties etc, if you use a mod that changes them.

If you don't care about terrain map-mode you can just delete the !_terrain.txt file.

Modifies checksum right now due to terrain tilemap shenanagins (common/terrain/XX)
Contating paradox to fix this limitation (it's just visual changes shouldn't be part of checksum)
Previous workaround doesnt work anymore due to recent updates to HOI4.

Ignore - "Terrain <mountains_desert_tips> attempts to use index (31), which is already used."
This is terrain-to-texture override working as intended, just a warning.

-----------------------------
Large GFX rework for HOI4
-----------------------------
Terrain is much easier to distinguish, forest/jg/mud etc. improved.

Reworked global illumination for even global lighting and crispier terrain.
china not as dark etc, no eye-searing water shimmer etc.

Significantly improved each of the below map modes:
- Main map mode
- Strategic Navy
- Strategic Air
- Supply
- Terrain

Tested with all settings ON except Shadows/3DTrees/Cities.

Naval icons loosly based on this mod:

-----------------------------
More detail dump
-----------------------------
- Removed numerous sources of luminance flicker between map-modes
- Improved FOW, cleaner and darker
- Adjuster plenty of colors/etc.
- Improved Airbase and Navalbase icons
- Modified stripes/diamonds for zone access
- Task forces and fleets report out-of-range better
- Fonts reworked to be crisper and cleaner
- Border pulsing improved
- Removed 'Distance Fog' effect
- Removed continental tints/lighting
- Added custom color LUT
- Switching map-modes audio is now pause-button. No more 'vroom vroom'

Terrain improved:
- Mud blending substantially improved
- Jungle/Forest terrain reworked
- Desert mountains are now 'mountains'
- Hills easier to distinguish
- Deserts not as bright
- Touched up all terrain a little

Water lighting reworked:
- No sun glare or glossiness
- More 'watery' water
- Recalibrated lighting

Battleplans/Frontline improved:
- Basic frontline more compact
- Arrows of all sorts improved, unassigned masks changed
- Battleplans now fade out when zooming in
- Battleplans are only visible in Main map mode.
- Frontlines fade out when zooming in

Railways improved:
- Solid-lines at larger zoom in supply mode
- Texture railways hidden cuz look terrible

-----------------------------
In DEV - HIATUS due to lack of mod use/feedback.
-----------------------------
- Supply gradient improvements
- Profiling/optimization, possibly
- Better province/country/sea borders (dds)
- Misc. QOL tweaks as mod gets tested

-----------------------------
Stuff I can't fix
-----------------------------
> GradientalBorders on islands are extremely thick, no way to handle them differently or configure this.

> Water 'bloom' is due to land>ocean tiles lending (has nothing to do with GB's)
Just looks poorly blended when blending to darker oceans.

> Zooming out causes obvious tiling on coastal borders - islands look quite square. HOI4 issue.

> Hardcoded 1+ second delay before Gradiental borders update after a map mode switch

> Selecting units automatically changes map-modes, also hardcoded logic.

> Navalbase icon when a fleet is present, automatically blurred for no reason.
Doesn't matter if same as an already crisp navalbase icon. HOI4 shenangins.

Sure you can use it :)
I don't have the motivation/time to maintain this right now.

Hello, you said that people may not use anything from my mod, in whole or in part, without my explicit permission.
And that you will relax this at a later date.
I wnated to do some heavy modifications since it seems you lost motivation
If you authorize it of course

The problem is I can't fix the crappy terrain normal maps ETC. without modifying checksum
So desert mountains will be hard to see, desert super bright, etc. if u disable that stuff by deleting the terrain stuff. Blame paradox reeee >.<
UnknownSniper  [author] Dec 14, 2022 @ 1:22pm
It won't work with MP because it changes the checksum
If you get everyone to use it then the checksum will change for everyone and you will have no issues

Unfortunately Paradox is unresponsive, lots of 'we dont do dev here contact XX' and then no reply so unless someone can get a post on forums or something to get them to fix this it's no dice.

Does this mean multiplayer is no longer compatible?
UnknownSniper  [author] Nov 15, 2022 @ 5:07pm
You can tweak it by modifying the railroad shader a little, iirc, just remove the 'return' that I added before the rest of it. Or something along those lines.

Paradox refuses to respond so I guess this will modify checksum :(

Love this mod although I wish the railroads were still visible in default map mode
