More Vanilla Biomes

Description

More Vanilla Biomes adds more variety to your environment without overhauling the game. Includes TEN new vanilla-friendly biomes.

Glacial Shield: Where the glacier meets the tundra, this area is icy, rocky, and cold almost year-round. Thick stands of forest are concentrated in patches of soil and around lakes, attracting wildlife.

Badlands: Rocky, dry and desolate, these temperate regions feature little life.

Cloud Forest: Found at the tops of tropical mountains and named for the constant fog. Animals frequently wander up the slopes from the forests below.

Marsh: Marshy terrain with dense plants but few trees. Temperate to cold.

Grasslands: Warm, with poor soil, lots of grass, and few trees. Herds of grazing animals make their home here. If Realistic Planets is enabled, this will be renamed Stormy Savannah.

Coastal Dunes: Low-lying sandy area with lots of water.

Sandbar: Smooth, flat, sandy islands with little if any vegetation or arable land.

Alpine Meadow: A beautiful area with fertile soil, lots of flowers, and few predators. The summers are mild and bountiful, and the winters are cold and harsh.

Oasis: Desert with groundwater close to the surface, making small lakes that support pockets of thick vegetation. If Realistic Planets is enabled, this will be renamed Dense Oasis.

Ice Floes: Frigid chunks of ice floating on the ocean. Who would want to live here?

This mod is meant to be as widely compatible as possible. Please report any issues.

Other biome mods: Compatible. Includes Alpha Biomes, Advanced Biomes, Archipelagos, Nature's Pretty Sweet, Biomes! Island, and more!

Mods that change world generation should be compatible, but you might see too much or too little of some biomes.

Modded plants and animals must be added via XML patches, as of 1.5.

Recommended
Prepare Landing to help find the biome of your choice
Map Reroll if playing on maps without much solid ground.
Your choice of gravel visibility mod, especially if playing in Grasslands or Dunes. Some options are Gravel, Where's the Gravel?, and Soil Contrast

Incompatibility
Configurable Maps: Incompatible with sandbars, causes grasslands to have way too much sand, even if you have all vanilla settings. Other biomes work as intended.

Terra Project: Makes extensive changes to world generation that I can't work around.

Please report any other incompatibilities you find.

Thanks! Added those to the list

If you're still keeping track of mods that have patches for this, my other mods, Bird Up+ and Birds of the World, also support this mod (asking since I see Little Critters on there)

Update:
- Grasslands has been renamed to Stormy Savanna, as this is in line with my vision for the biome and differentiates it from Odyssey's Grassland. Storms may be a little more common. Description has been updated as well, for the same reason.
- Iceberg has been renamed to Ice Floes, which is a more accurate description of the biome.
- Updated description for Glacial Shield, to better distinguish it from Glacial Plain (which is a very different biome)

I've also updated all the preview images on Steam!

Renaming Grasslands to Plains might work
Zylleon  [author] Jul 25 @ 5:31am
Yes, I'm keeping them. The names are much more similar than the actual biomes, and removing them would cause problems for existing games.

are you keeping the similar ones to the ones in the update in? id like to not have overlap though iirc you have a config to disable biomes in the mod.

ok thx

The similarly-named biomes are Glacial Plains (glacial shield) and Grasslands (grasslands). There was also an "iceberg" map feature added (not a biome). I've renamed the Iceberg biome to Ice Floes. Glacial shield will stay the same, and I'm still deciding for Grasslands.

The look and feel of these seems quite different from my versions, and I don't think Odyssey or 1.6 has anything similar to any of the other MVB biomes.

Odyssey added a couple biomes that are kind of similar to some MVB biomes, though they seem more similar in name than in execution. MVB is still alive and well, and I'm planning more updates to further differentiate the similar-aounsing biomes

So wait, im coming back to rimworld and your mod is listed in the "Dead Mods in 1.6 list" as a mod that was integrated into the game. Is that correct? Since it was updated recently im kinda doubting that list
