Tropico!

Description
"Welcome to Tropico, Presidente, your very own island paradise! Sure, she might not be much to look at now with the lack of services, buildings, roads, toilet paper or even citizens, but she has a wealth of beauty and riches waiting to be uncovered by someone as brave, as daring, as good-...well, as looking as yourself. If you build it, they will come!"

Tropico! is my first map and not based on any specific maps from the famous Tropico games, more that I was inspired by it because I really, really love the aesthetics of island maps, and mainly I used the idea of a tropical island to play around with and learn how the various map editing tools worked. Some 30 hours or more of poking around at it on and off after work some days (oh BOY was it a pain to get the water to do what I wanted...I could weave a tail about that alone) eventually led me here, and since some friends of mine wanted to play around with it, I figured I'd put it on the workshop.

This map has no road or rail connections, as it is, you know, an island. The plopped harbors will be your only avenue of freight or Cims entering/leaving Tropico, at least until you unlock harbors or airports of your own. It also has pretty limited build plains, and the terrain becomes more challenging the further away you move from the start square. As such, I do not recommend this map for expansive city builds, though it can certainly be possible with a skilled builder.

If there are any errors, please let me know; I'd love to learn and improve upon this and future maps.

A HUGE thanks to all the wonderful asset creators on the workshop whose contributions made this map and many cities of mine a joy to build and behold, and especially to BloodyPenguin who's sheer volume of quality mods have found their way onto my machine. Much love to Mr Miyagi, whose map making tutorials kept me from pulling out what's left of my hair.

Recommended Theme: OWL's Mediterranean Alternative
Recommended LUT: San Minato LUT or your favorite Relight LUT setting.
Or, do what you want, I'm not your parent. :)

Required assets (and the very, very recommended theme) are in the side bar.
Recommended assets to get your map looking like my screenshots are listed below; however, it's likely I've forgotten either some game settings or somesuch (I'm still very new to this), so let me know if this doesn't work:

Ultimate Eyecandy
- Under Ambient:
- - Latitude = 35.6
- - Longitude = 0
- - Global Light Intensity = 7.5
- - Ambient Light Intensity = 1.5

Relight
- Under Lighting > Tonemapping: Brightness = +0.5

Clouds and Fog Toggler
- Disable clouds, industrial smog, & distance fog.
- Enable edge fog (to hide the ugly at the edge).

No Radioactive Desert And More!
- Turn off only shoreline and polluted ground color.

Sharp Textures
- Max Anistropy, Min Mipmap (of course!)

Daylight Classic
- Classic sunlight color & intensity

Dynamic Resolution
- 300%

Depth of Field is on, but I don't remember to what, exactly. :)

I think this is the moment when thousands of Tropico fans will go over to the dark side of Cities Skylines)))

@Stefans.999
Those assets do not appear in this map, and I have never been subscribed to them.

In general, that workshop item (Kombi-Müll-Heizkraftwerk) has a couple required items, which you can see in the side-bar on the right. Make sure you are subscribed to all required items, and have any required DLC, to avoid broken assets.

Help :)
Seperallis  [author] Dec 8, 2018 @ 4:35pm
@Simon83 It works fine for me and my friends so I can't say I have a good specific fix for it, but there are a couple things you could check and try, which should hopefully resolve it.

1) Restart the game ? I often have problems with themes disappearing if I switch between maps and such. Restarting fixes it.

2) Check that all the assets are turned on ? Turn on any that are off. This probably won't help you specifically, since you said the theme shows up for other maps. :)

3) Try this workaround : Load the map and save your game. Quit to either the menu or your desktop (I recommend desktop just to avoid memory problems). Choose "Load Game," choose the save you just made and select Owl's theme from the dropdown. Save your game, and you shouldn't have a problem anymore.

If these don't work I can't say I have any other ideas, but do let me know if the problem persists.

I can't get Owl's theme to show in the dropdown for this map. It appears for others, just not this one. Any advice?

Thank you! I'm very surprised (and pleased) at the reception it received.
