Lore:

The Federation Bismarck Class Broadside Combat Cruiser was built in the late 2080s, to act as the anchorpoint of a taskforce and to supplement the aging fleets of the Federation.

It's position is in the center of the Fleet, soaking massive damage while crushing other capital ships with it's broadsides. As such, it was one of the first ships in the Federation to be equipped with Energy shields. Heavy point defenses, shields and armor ensure this vessel can take an absolutely brutal pounding and still function.

In addition, it's thickly armored bow was built to crush any ship unfortunate to get in it's way, and with a large amount of thrusters pushing this heavy vessel forward, it is capable of ramming Dreadnought class vessels out of their fleet positions.

Many of these vessels survive to this day, and despite being older and underpowered compared to many modern vessels now in the 2120s, it is still considered the centerpiece workhorse of any Federation Combat formation.

Edit 8:
The Tirpitz Refit was the last one to be completed on the Bismarck Class Battlecruiser, seeing a displacement increase to 45,000 tonnes, the addition of several more compact heavy Turrets, each with the same firepower as the old models, elimination of the decoy printer, massively increased armor, heavier engine shrouds, elimination of the Hydrogen tanks and engines to accommodate more reactors and two Heavy Gravity Cores, one fore and one Aft, and anti-volumetric panelling on every available surface of the ship's exterior.

Edit 6:
The 2125 Refit was the second to last one performed on the Bismarck, due to the proliferation of Drones and the dated technology of the ship. Since the Next Generation Battlecruiser's Gravity Drive core could not fit within the current design, a primitive Gravity Driven Sub-Light Assist Module (GDSLAM) was implemented. With only a small amount of easily corrected ventral drift, the Bismarck now has the ability to accelerate quickly forward, either out of, or more often, into trouble.

The other portion of the refit makes use of the automated repair systems and Federation Engineers have built in a small decoy 3d printing mechanism on the dorsal. For the system to work properly, all automated repair systems must be online, and many micro-maneuvers are needed to shake the decoys loose during combat and send them drifting away from the ship.

Edit 7: April/May 2018 update: added Defense shields, and a non-drone copy of Cheerkin's APck script, which allows the GDSLAM system to be used in normal operation to assist forward/reverse thrust. The old toggle still exists however, in the case of APck being disabled for any reason.

This ship needs only three mods, and they are completely optional.
Cython's Energy shields, Defense shields, and the Shield Hud mod

This vessel was built to take a beating, and this is before the Shields were installed.
It has enough reactor/battery to support additional shield generation, and mod thrusters, allowing you to make this ship into even more of a powerhouse, and it can easily accomodate multiple battleship turrets with minimal modification.

Edit:
The broadside launchers are now configurable between Alpha Strike mode (vanilla default) and Ripple Fire mode(sequenced). Pressing 6 on either broadside hot bar turns off the sequencer Programmable block, and 7 turns all launchers back on for that side. This resets the broadsides to Alpha mode. To switch back to Ripple mode, simply turn the sequencer block back on.

Edit 4: Gatlings are now on a timer block so you can switch them from Point Defense to attack and back.

Edit 3: Finally got the Rotor turrets I've been wanting to put on her done and looking pretty. She now has two AI controlled Rotor turrets.

Edit 5: Increased Armor and forward/reverse thrust, revised Conveyor system for lower lag, improved turret repair systems, and massively increased power generation, battery backup, and gyroscopes.

Edit 2: Ship stats
Displacement: 45 Kt
Beam overall: 105 meters
Draft overall: 48 meters
Length overall: 218 meters
Maximum 3 axis power draw:
Armament:
36x Gatling Turrets (Point Defense)
26x Rocket Turrets
5x Ventral Rotor Turrets MK-VI Heavy Compact
4x Dorsal Rotor Turrets MK-VI Heavy Compact
18x Rocket launcher pods (2 groups of 3 salvo banks of 3 launchers each per side)

Grid mass classifications for my own 'verse.
A Dreadnought would weigh in over 100 Kilotons.

Heavy Cruiser/Armored Cruisers are from 20-29 Kilotons.
Cruisers are from 11-19 Kilotons (Sverdlov and Svetlana)

Thank you for the compliment!

The Bismarck Class was built as a pocket battleship (eg. battlecruiser) and was designed to take a massive amount of damage before being rendered inoperable. It's only from extensive combat testing pre-release of the ship I found and fixed many of the flaws I often complain about on other ships, and extensive continued destructive testing by Cheerkin that pushed me to improve the ship to the point that it's currently at.

I'm of the firm opinion that a fighting ship needs to be able to fight and survive. It's what drives my designing and testing.

For such an old ship, this thing looks awesome. It looks extremely practical, too. I originally found this after looking for a showcase video on Surge's Beowulf, on YouTube. I ended up finding one of your throwdown videos, instead. It's amazing how this thing can seemingly mop the floor with any cruiser/battleship posted to the workshop, with or without shields. I'll probably have a lot of fun using this thing in survival, if I'll ever get the chance.

Before finding this, I thought the Beowulf was the coolest battleship on the workshop, but I guess I was wrong. Even if this isn't strictly classified as a battleship, it might as well be one.

This thing must be very under-rated for what it is.
