Fair enough.
csabadass  [author] Sep 25 @ 6:14pm
@Siren System: For sure all of that could've happened, even likely to have. But a CSA choosing that path won't be around in 1936, and then I got nothing to mod. The CSA only survive by allying with the UK, and the British are only going to put up with so much abominable behavior. So the Confederacy is still racist and backwards AF, but in DV also has a survival instinct.

I have never claimed the DV history is the most likely outcome -- far from it, because clearly that's the CSA getting crushed by the USA sooner or later. DV is just the most likely outcome that still has a Confederacy around at the start of the HoI4 timeline.

You vastly underestimated the CSA's evils. They planned to Industrialize Slavery. And even if they "got rid of" slavery they'd just switch to prison or debt slavery but say it isn't slavery (kindof like modern America's 13th amendment but even worse).

DV is now compatible with HoI4 Version 1.16.10.

Have preordered Expansion Pack 2. Look for a DV No Compromise, No Surrender update soon after NCNS is released on 20 Nov.

This really is the 'Old Reliable' of HoI4 Mods
csabadass  [author] Jul 28 @ 4:13pm
@JustJust51: Wow! High praise indeed to be mentioned with those mods -- thank you very much!

Always adding stuff whenever I get inspired -- Been adding flavor events and reworking the CS Navy all summer long. And the October expansion from PI has potential for more.

Long as I can keep finding time to play, I'll keep adding stuff.

This is one of my three favorite alt-history HOI4 mods, the others being Dreams of a White Russian Victory and Kaiserreich. I still can't believe this mod isn't dead; a mod that stretches back to HOI2 in 2006, talk about dedication, lol.

Do you plan to add more content? Or are you satisfied with how it is?

@𝐀𝐌𝐈𝐃𝐀𝐋𝐀 & @AtohiGM: Should I confess this is a continuation of the HoI2 mod I made back in 2006? :)
AtohiGM Jul 24 @ 8:58pm
I know Right!
a mod made in 2016 still getting updated is insane :deaths:

@UNITED-STATES-EMPIRE!!!: Thanks!

Not before 1936 -- that would be begging for the Big Blue Tsunami to "reunite the country." But in the mod, anything's possible.
UNITED-STATES-EMPIRE!!! Jul 11 @ 10:01pm
great mod but they would not be fully democratic i reckon partly fascist or maybe!

@mtg002: Definitely some trade-offs when trying to model WW2 (and 3, really).
mtg002 Jun 29 @ 7:18am
You will be able to find the origins of every suggested name pretty easily, except Rabbit Runners. A/1-155th IN, MSARNG, is one of very few company sized units in the US military with an officially approved traditional nickname, blessed by the Army Dept of Heraldry. During Korea the 31st Division was mobilized, but kept for possible European service. During a formal parade a rabbit ran across the field. The company broke formation, chased down and caught the rabbit, and one of the soldiers proudly carried the rabbit by the ears next to the company guidon for the rest of the parade. I must assume the VIP watching the parade had an admirable sense of humor.

In my opinion, which is worth what you pay for it, the base problem is that Paradox doesn't really understand history or technology enough to tell the difference between a tech which everyone could have, but didn't bother to develop, and tech which should be a secret project. Systems developed specifically to deal with Louisiana and Florida swamps which were adapted to a doctrinal mission are a fairly good match for a national spirit, rather than a tech which is just on the tech tree, but they aren't likely to ask me, and it isn't your job to fix the base game.
csabadass  [author] Jun 28 @ 1:46pm
@mtg002: Higgins Industries already nets the CSA a production advantage via a national focus. The game already simulates the advantages of the boats themselves through the existing tech tree.

One of the few things I miss about HoI3 is each country having its own elite unit. I used zouaves for the CSA, solely because my publisher at the time convinced me, "You won't come up with anything cooler than that." If PI ever brings back this concept for HoI4, I'm ready to re-add them. Though honestly, with the division designer, it's probably a matter of semantics at this point.

Thanks for all the info!
mtg002 Jun 28 @ 6:37am
The CSA arguably should get an advantage in amphibious war because of both the Higgens Boats and Amtracks, both of which were historically Southern. Also, the planned but never properly implemented post-War Confederate Army had, IIRC, 10 infantry and 1 zouave regiments, the latter presumably based on the French model of a unit specializing in small unit actions. In my own alt-history musings, I made that and sharpshooters the genesis of their modern elite and SOF units.
mtg002 Jun 28 @ 6:37am
North Carolina has Tarheels and Old Hickory. Virginia has the Stonewall Brigade, and whatever unit maintains the legacy of 1st Virginia probably would embrace a name like Washington's Own. Alabama would have Dixie. Kentucky the Orphans. Arkansas Full Moon, South Carolina Palmetto and Hampton's Legion, Florida Gators, Georgia Lightning, and Arizona, which historically has a name derived from a Panamanian snake, is more likely to come up with something like Sidewinders in this setting.

A couple of fictional names which might be appropriated would include Josey Wales, James Langdon and I cannot recall the name of the former Confederates from the writing of James Warner Bellah, but should reread them. Especially Spanish Man's Grave.
mtg002 Jun 28 @ 6:21am
Louisiana is most famous for the Tigers, and there was an interesting use of a LAARNG regiment during WWII to garrison North Africa because of the high Cajun percentage, who almost spoke French, suggesting an actual Cajun unit. Alternately, there were ACW units named European, French and others, or the lineage of the 1st Louisiana Native Guard. If New Orleans wasn't captured by the Union in your timeline, that would likely be celebrated.
mtg002 Jun 27 @ 3:11pm
Texas would be Lone Star, even though they actually got that from Mississippi, Alamo, Texas Rangers, not official but the 36th was actually nicknamed the T-Patch, and it would not be a stretch to add a Sam Houston unit. From fiction I'd think seriously about Jacob McCandles, and possibly others tickling in the back of my mind.

@mtg002: Thank you!!

If you are interested in some evocative names for the Militia, here is a short list of names from Mississippi. Army of 10,000, Mississippi Rifles, Davis Guards, Dixie Thunder, Washington Cavalry, and Rabbit Runners, taken from various periods of history.

@AtohiGM: People famed for their misuse of fireworks had a legit crazy shot of reaching the Moon. Already had that penciled in for the Cold War version, :)

@AtohiGM: :)

Now wishing that Cold War version of HoI had come out. Was all prepared to update the mod for that.

@AtohiGM: Always thinking about it, so never know when the inspiration will strike. I do have time for more research (which is how I finally managed to do the long-overdue CS Navy revision).
AtohiGM Jun 17 @ 9:11am
New comtent?
csabadass  [author] Jun 16 @ 3:58pm
PI dropped a "War Effort" patch today, and I've updated the mod accordingly. They sometimes drop them in clusters, and in case that happens want to mention I'm taking a long weekend for my first actual vacation since before the lockdowns. If a new patch happens Thursday-Monday, I won't be around to deal with it.

But I *will* be back, and I *will* update, so don't bail on the mod or think I've disappeared. :)
