aha https://github.com/Scurvyez/ColorBlindness for anyone else wondering :D
ephemera Jul 12 @ 1:18pm
actually found that this worked fine for me but not my partner (who i was testing it out for) -- might be a mod load order issue might be something else. is the source for this available, scurvyez? we're both programmers with some mod dev experience and i would be happy to take a stab at updating this
ephemera Jul 12 @ 1:11pm
this seems to be working fine on 1.6! (loaded a save with a shader enabled and everything seemed A-OK!)

Can confirm this doesn't simulate colorblindness, it actually corrects for it and makes the scenery more readable. Good job!
Bismo Funyuns Nov 22, 2024 @ 6:05am
Im not colourblind but im still gonna show support.Take my steampoints!
Jaevric Oct 21, 2024 @ 4:38pm
@Partygurke
No. All this is doing is changing what color things are to increase contrast in the part of the spectrum you can see. You will not see the game like a non colorblind person does, as the colors are being shifted by a shader.

@Scurvyez
Shader-based colorblindness filters don't work that well for this sort of thing. You'd be better off changing the game art to recolor elements of the game to increase contrast for each type of color correction required, as the problem is ultimately color contrast for people who can't see certain wavelengths. Just shifting everything with a shader won't solve the problem.

I made this comparison a while back. The bottom row is not in-game, it is an example of what actual accessibility colors might look like. https://i.imgur.com/w9pPeTV.png

Instead of dulling red (which is what's already happening in protanomalous vision), it cranks up the brightness of red and pushes it toward magenta.

@Partygurke If I understand correctly, in the third image on the left side, it should be somewhat easier for you to spot chemfuel, flowers, blood stains, and carnivore fine meals?
GonDragon Oct 15, 2024 @ 2:36pm
@Partygurke @ZX Zero: No, these shaders doesn't correct color for colorblidness, they simulate colorblidness instead. If something, they'll even make it harder for a colorblind to distinguish the colors. If you need something to help you distinguish colors in Rimworld, I'll recommend to set up a shortcut for the Colorblidness Filter that already came with windows.
DingDing Oct 15, 2024 @ 9:29am
you the real hero:steamhappy:
ZX Zero Oct 15, 2024 @ 5:24am
@Partygurke these shaders will adapt the colors to your eyes so you can see different builds with different colors, i don't have color blindness so i don't know how will be the different with mod.
Partygurke Oct 14, 2024 @ 5:50am
Hey, Ive got Protanopia (I had to google wich one it is - In German its just called Red - Green Weakness)
My question: (and no , I`m not 5 years old, sorry :)
If I Install Protanopia shaders. Do i see Rimworld like "normal" poeple seeing it?
Or will there be still a difference , and its helping me seeing something i didn`t see at all?
Elking Oct 8, 2024 @ 10:22am
i'm not color blind, but this has to be rewarded
eharper256 Oct 3, 2024 @ 8:19am
What jacksondaxhacker said; but... adding lighting to new Biomes. That would be amazing.
jacksondaxhacker Oct 1, 2024 @ 6:24pm
Honestly, even ignoring the colorblindness part, these shaders are genuinely just cool. It would be neat if you made a version of this mod that just added different color and brightness overlays to the game, nice for setting the mood for a particular playthough.
ilyvion Sep 28, 2024 @ 11:19pm
I think this mod is meant to simulate color blindness for those who aren't, and not to improve accessibility for those who are. Which can help those modders who aren't color blind make more accessible decisions, but doesn't do anything for improving accessibility by itself.

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. 🙃
Teneksi Sep 20, 2024 @ 7:24pm
@Mr McNificent In that case, I'm curious to confirm whether the edit I linked below helps you spot chemfuel and blood stains.

...Maybe the true compatibility mod gives the colonists protonopia so they're less bothered by blood on natural tiles
Brybry Sep 20, 2024 @ 7:56am
Yeah if the floorboards in particular aren't especially distinguishable on Protanopia, that'd be a solid sign
Mr McNificent Sep 12, 2024 @ 6:23am
Protanopia and Protanomaly versions both look almost identical to default. I think I just learned something about myself.
denil380 Sep 9, 2024 @ 3:38am
Good for you about accessibility. I'll just chuck this into my mod list just because I want grayscale look of my view port. Keep in touch and get some crew or two to figure out how to make this idea work on those aforementioned parts not supported yet. I'll howl like wolf if Tynan somehow got crews to pull off this idea.
Sean Sep 8, 2024 @ 11:05pm
You know what'd be awesome? I'm not sure it's possible, but a version where to the player it's in colourblind mode but screen recordings record normally. That way, streamers or youtubers that are colourblind could make rimworld content and the audience would see things as normal.
GonDragon Sep 8, 2024 @ 1:24pm
@Foxy Joshy TTV: You can try with the Colorblidness Filter of Windows, that's what I use. It is disabled by default, but if you enable it, you can turn it on an off with Cntrl + Win + C.
Titus_Commodus Sep 7, 2024 @ 6:35pm
I don't need this personal but I wanted to salute you for doing this I hope this is a helpful mod for those it is designed for, well done, this is what modding is all about
Foxy Joshy TTV Sep 7, 2024 @ 1:28am
Pro-tan here:

I agree with Gringuera's sentiment - this mod doesn't help with what I'm looking for, which something that offers high contrast (namely the rich soil vs. stony soil since those look the exact same on default). Not sure what the mod's goal is, but it needs some tweaking to serve as an accessibility option
Teneksi Sep 5, 2024 @ 9:28am
It's difficult to explain in words. Perhaps these comparisons will shed light on the issue: https://i.imgur.com/w9pPeTV.png
Teneksi Sep 5, 2024 @ 8:25am
Of course not. My question is how it's for accessibility. What does the filter do for someone like Gringuera? Can you explain why it helps?
Scurvyez  [author] Sep 5, 2024 @ 2:08am
Folks.... If you don't have color blindness then obviously you're just going to see the game in different colors with different modes enabled.
Scurvyez  [author] Sep 5, 2024 @ 2:05am
@Teneksi It is for accessibility. There's no way to do this so that folks with normal vision don't see the altered colors. lol
Golden Sep 4, 2024 @ 4:35pm
@Teneksi i didn't try the mod when i wrote the so i thought oh color blind settings that's helpful so i'm sorry for my misunderstanding of the mod
Teneksi Sep 4, 2024 @ 4:25pm
I don't have colorblindness myself, so I don't know what the experience is like, but I've simulated it while testing for accessibility, and I understand what Gringuera is saying; it looks like this (or, at least, the protanomaly filter) only simulates colorblindness, which doesn't do much of anything for colorblind people.

I'm glad it seems to be helping Golden gamer, but deuteranomaly means seeing less green light.

The mod description doesn't mention accessibility; is this actually meant to be for accessibility, or is it designed to simulate the experience for those with full color vision?

One game I've seen do accessibility well is Forza Horizon. Its protanomaly mode cranks up red into a vivid magenta, so that you can still identify red objects despite red-weak vision. This mod dulls red into yellow/green tones, which is what the retina already does.
Golden Sep 3, 2024 @ 12:18pm
Deuteranomaly btw
Golden Sep 3, 2024 @ 12:17pm
@Gringuery no if your not color blind you just see colors but by adding the colors i'm deficient in (red in this case) you can see how its intended to look and its great to have this in some games

P.S color blind glasses are expensive (like 300 usd) and don't work on screens
Gringuera Sep 3, 2024 @ 9:14am
I don't really understand how this is helpful; it seems like it just simulates color blindness rather than correcting for it, right? For instance I have protanomaly and both sides look the same, because it's just simulating protanomalous vision. How is this helpful for anyone? I've seen games do this before and I really don't understand the point vs. actual color blind assistance modes that change colors to ones that are easier to distinguish for the target anomaly.
Aldran Sep 2, 2024 @ 9:20pm
Finally a way to make the game look a little bit less cartoony and bright, useful mod even without colour blindness
Agriche Aug 27, 2024 @ 8:53pm
Congratulations on your work :Gifting:
Nanao-kun Aug 27, 2024 @ 11:35am
I'm also not color blind but thanks for this. Means even more people will have no choice but to play Rimworld heheh.
Lambda Aug 24, 2024 @ 11:14pm
Thank you for this. I appreciate this so much.
Scurvyez  [author] Aug 18, 2024 @ 11:01am
@Sera Glad it helps. <3
Scurvyez  [author] Aug 18, 2024 @ 11:00am
@Zaire82 I learned a lot about writing shaders making this. I also learned that I love using the different effects for these exact reasons. lol
Zaire82 Aug 18, 2024 @ 8:58am
Watch this get used in playlists just for atmospheric effect.
The achromatopsia one is like sepia.
The achromatomaly one is also pretty good in general.
aflightlessdodo Aug 17, 2024 @ 4:49pm
Not color blind but good thing you're doing here. :steamthis:
Sera Aug 17, 2024 @ 4:29pm
Tritanomaly is helping so much. Rimworld looks so weird now but it's probably because I got so used to not having it.
TheCarrierPrimoris Aug 17, 2024 @ 6:45am
It's so rad seeing accessibility stuff like this! Plus, it's neat to see the way other people's eyes can work optimally. Thanks, Scurvyez!
Wargamer Aug 17, 2024 @ 5:50am
bro i didnt even know there was different kinds like this
Shadok Aug 17, 2024 @ 5:09am
I'm not in the target demographic but this is really cool to see, great work!
LordKhalton Aug 17, 2024 @ 4:50am
Me installing this just to use the Achromatomaly option to desaturated the game :ppg_human:
Bashixa Aug 17, 2024 @ 4:13am
Ngl I sometimes use these colorblind filters because they're just so aesthetically pleasing.
stinkydaboi Aug 16, 2024 @ 9:54pm
im glad people are helping others
amron Aug 16, 2024 @ 6:19pm
i dont have any of this thankfaly but thx for the mod
jinn in outer space Aug 16, 2024 @ 4:11pm
i didnt read the title and thought these were cool anomaly themed filters
claus mother 3 Aug 16, 2024 @ 11:47am
I cried when I saw this ad on the workshop. I've got tritanomaly. Thank you.
