Humanoid's Beam Turret Multitool [toolcore]

This mod will only weld blocks in the same grid up to the framework.
If you use a different grid than this mod, it will be welded to completion.
This is also true for demolition.
Yablako Nov 9 @ 4:36pm
For some reason, the turret just doesn't want to build anything connected to its grid, doesn't even aim at it.
More than that, I tried adding Simple Laser Multitools (Now with Turrets) and it looks like this mod marked the blocks it failed to build or whatever so the Simple Laser Turret refuses to build them too. Even after the block is gone the empty space is now cursed and no turrent will ever build anything placed there.
Any suggestions on how to resolve it?

Any chance for a toolbar hokey to toggle Use Work Color?

Animation engine can't conflict with it at all - you can even run my multitool without animation engine installed at all
crimson Sep 17 @ 9:08am
@Syphond @humanoid,mp4 I use Simple Laser Multitools (Now with Turrets) by Copper, tried that mod out yesterday to see if it still works, and it does, so it's not toolcore.

only real difference between the two mods would probably be animation engine.

so it could be that, but... could it possibly be a conflict with another mod? cause if humanoid can't manage to duplicate the issue then it could be a mod conflict.
humanoid.mp4  [author] Sep 17 @ 8:20am
Does this issue occur if you reload the world? If does, could you please upload the world to workshop? I can’t recreate this myself for some reason and I keep getting reports like this ):
Syphond Sep 16 @ 6:01pm
He just updated his reactors mod three days ago, so he is around. I'm wondering if it is tool core as I tried another one and it had problems. Might be tool core might be both.
crimson Sep 16 @ 4:52am
@Syphond I won't be able to check, but you should go grab another mod that uses tool core to see if it's tool core itself rather than this mod. (honestly I would use this one, but the mod author still hasn't gotten back to me since the 6th of june. so, I'm kinda getting a feeling that this one is semi dead for a while.)
Syphond Sep 15 @ 1:48pm
Tried this yesterday, it built all the wire frames for the blocks once then quit working after that.. Wouldnt continue building anything it started or anything new. Hopefull fixed soon.

can this turret be manually controlled?

I realize that most people love just turning it on and leaving it on to let it do all the work for you, but some people may like the option to leave the AI off and just use it as an actual turret that welds and disassemble your enemies. (or regular blocks, it's satisfying either way to watch something melt away while you control it.)
can you make a version of this where it is a 3 DOF mechanical arm, the "shoulder" aims at the target block and the ("elbow") and ("shoulder" offset pitch) is changed to match the distance to it. It isn't supposed to be physical or anything it would just look nicer than having nonsensical beam
Deapri Feb 25 @ 7:51pm
Weirdest thing, sometimes, when I switch to weld, there are parts of the AI Enabled Factory ui on the tool... I'll let JTurp know as well. Such a strange thing, they should not be referencing one anthers codes at all. This occured with both blocks on the same grid, a large ship in this case, when switching modes while the beam was active. (I have not done further testing to see if this happens in other conditions or reliability of reproduction, as it has not happened every time.
Deapri Feb 3 @ 6:25am
That can happen as Ash noted during development, however in this case it was a basic armor block. Noted also it has not repeated since for me.
humanoid.mp4  [author] Feb 3 @ 5:13am
Some blocks might have issues because the turret aims at the centre of the block bounding box, but the welding effect only applies to block collision model
Deapri Feb 3 @ 4:25am
yes, i noticed that just a little bit ago though the tool works with activated turned off which is odd, but the line appears occasionally briefly during welding even still a little odd but it works well... in response to others who said they had the bug with the tool not working after a certain point on some girds, I had it on my ship and this happened, I tried a few resets but to no avail, flying out of range and then back in however did resolve the fault... in case that is useful to anyone.
humanoid.mp4  [author] Feb 3 @ 2:49am
Red draw line should only appear if the beam is on and “activated”, but doesn’t hit any grid or voxel in its path. It’s purely visual
Deapri Feb 3 @ 2:15am
And this morning it stopped so far making that line... fun times with intermittent strangeness...
Deapri Feb 2 @ 2:32pm
@humanoid.mp4 A little odd, but there is a red draw line when the tool is enabled, as opposed to the green draw line when using draw. Works as far as I can tell as intended otherwise.

@Idacat411 This is new, as it has never showed that before so im assuming it was a toolcore issue (i had to boot up SE to set this as this was the only thing driving me nuts with this item). i used nanobots as it was better on performance then the Nanites but was way to cheap. no that this has a work colors like nanobots im so switching back to this. but it uses a slightly different way of doing colors then the color picker so u have to have the color selected beforehand so u can copy it over. its a small thing and more like a "this is how it is" for anyone wondering what is off but im happy that the color thing is working now
Idacat411 Jan 23 @ 5:25am
@ArcZeroNine For the work color if you turn it on, move off of the control panel and back you can select the color, just have to do that several times. I think there is a bug in the refresh for the control panel.
Memeology Jan 21 @ 8:35am
yeah it does work for the first bit but later yeah you gotta drop it lol thanks anyway
humanoid.mp4  [author] Jan 20 @ 12:27pm
Do not build blocks on same grid (or subgrid of the same grid) as laser turret - it’s supposed to weld other grids
Memeology Jan 20 @ 12:13pm
why do they cuurrently weld only till the block is vibible and not to full?
RikeiR Nov 26, 2024 @ 10:29pm
The “Tool Core” itself seems to be broken at 1.205.
ArcZeroNine Nov 16, 2024 @ 1:58pm
i am running into an issue where the turrets will not pull resources to build anything.

so a couple things need to be worked out: its not pulling resources (this may be due to how often it changes targets as it doesnt have time to grab what is needed), the fact it changes targets way to quick ( which may be due to the previous issue, ah circles), a work color mode would be nice so that if you do have grind selected it just doesnt grind what it wants, for the turret to tunr off if it doesnt have a valid target (not sure if this can be done)

Update: it will not work thru other tools and it needs a connection to the main convayor line. at least that what happend with me as it wont take anything from the grinding pit but when i branched it off of the same line it works. along with having a timer system that cycles the grids it targets every 30 seconds
ArcZeroNine Nov 16, 2024 @ 9:56am
i would like to say tho, not adding the drilling function is a huge plus. it seems to be super buggy right now (like server killer buggy)
ArcZeroNine Nov 16, 2024 @ 9:52am
ah ic. i was kinda hoping it was a thing as currently when you turnin it on its like a wild animal with rabies when u turn it on XD. im hoping having my grids connected with the connector will make it not want to grind them down, but the work color would be nice for the more fine details (kinda like the 'paint it pink' with the nanobots')
humanoid.mp4  [author] Nov 16, 2024 @ 2:09am
Honestly I do not know - this is a feature of toolcore that just exists and I never touched it myself
ArcZeroNine Nov 15, 2024 @ 1:52pm
how would you use the work color mode. is there a premade color list that we have to use or is it a config thing?
ArcZeroNine Nov 14, 2024 @ 11:08pm
when it gets stuck, you need to cycle what it can build (own grid, friendly/ neutral/hostile kinda thing)
ArcZeroNine Nov 14, 2024 @ 10:39pm
im in a survival server, i was able to get it to work. they way i did it was do let it do its quick zap to add 1 part to the projection as i had it connected with a connector. once i got it to where i wanted to build it i locked it with a landing gear to make sure it doesnt fall then disconnected the connector. i doesnt like welding it own grid in any way. i will need to add a battery and the projector to the grid so it can do it all by its self
Tontow Nov 13, 2024 @ 6:10am
It is only placing the block from projections. It isn't welding anything. What am I doing wrong? Do I need to run a script or anything?
SioxerNikita Oct 31, 2024 @ 12:38am
Beyond being expensive, it really should cost a LOT more power
Faceless Oct 19, 2024 @ 5:59am
I am using the Beam Turret, its placing 1 component and then does not build the rest, also seems to kill the sim speed.
Rykarn Oct 19, 2024 @ 3:43am
i would love a version of this using prototech components feels a bit OP for my current world otherwise :)
Aizen Oct 17, 2024 @ 3:09pm
Is there any chance something like this will be made as laser mining drill in multiple sizes?
humanoid.mp4  [author] Oct 11, 2024 @ 9:30am
fascinating
Taeleus Oct 11, 2024 @ 12:40am
Alright. I got it working. I added the plugin for multigrid projector, enabled the checkbox for Set preview block visuals on server side, and it welds up the ship to wireframe, I cut it loose, and it welds it up the rest of the way once its not a subgrid. Pretty sweet!
Taeleus Oct 10, 2024 @ 11:31pm
So for context, I am on a self hosted torch dedicated server, in survival mode with plugins (disabled DePatch and PerformanceImprovements to test) I have a base in space with these welder turrets on it, plenty of mats. I built a rotor, projector, then setup the projection, turn these on and they just go bananas. Sometimes they weld, and if they do its 1 plate. Sometimes they just strobe. I have creative mode tools disabled.
Taeleus Oct 10, 2024 @ 11:08pm
oh so I have to be out of admin tools mode for this to work? Yes I am in admin mode while testing all this.
humanoid.mp4  [author] Oct 10, 2024 @ 10:52pm
Do you have admin tools enabled? This messes up toolcore
Taeleus Oct 10, 2024 @ 5:27pm
Now theyre just flipping from one object to the next and not finishing anything.
Yeah I dont think this mod is working for me C:
Taeleus Oct 10, 2024 @ 4:58pm
The second I cut it off the projector so it was its own grid it started welding up the wire frame.
Taeleus Oct 9, 2024 @ 6:04pm
Having an issue in my world where it welds up a projection but only puts 1 plate in the part so when its done im left with just a wireframe build and they refuse to target anything anymore.
Aikagi Sep 13, 2024 @ 10:22pm
update : nvm on the work color I found it.
Aikagi Sep 13, 2024 @ 10:14pm
I'm testing this out in my space dock for ship repairs. Two questions, 1) Does the operating color do both grind and weld or can it be set to only grind that color? And where do we set that color? 2) When welding, can it get to blocks on the inside of a grid if other built blocks are in the way?
Singularity Aug 21, 2024 @ 10:49am
would it be possible to controll it like a turret? since it has turret in the name i assumed i can controll it but ok
also
can you make it so it actually targets the colored block?
Paladinboyd Aug 7, 2024 @ 4:45am
Thank you
humanoid.mp4  [author] Aug 7, 2024 @ 1:37am
It pulls in the parts like regular grinder does
Paladinboyd Aug 6, 2024 @ 3:34pm
Do i need a collector near it or does it pull in the parts to send them to the cargo boxes?
