Preparing for the next update to this, MK-3 Soon(tm)
TrueWhiteKnight Jan 12, 2024 @ 11:48am
interesting. will definitely go with mk1 then, at least for now

It is indeed a very functional piece, there are two perpendicular rods connected between the wheel and the body. Its function is to align the wheel suspension to be level with the base at any part of the suspension travel to keep steering aligned correctly to the body. (its only relevant for the wheels that will be steering, the wheels used purely for torque can be mk-1's or just remove the rotor all together making it a fixed wheel)

It is a lot more pcu intensive due to the added forces applied. i would reccomend the MK-1 to start fleshing your design out, and opting for the MK-II if you need to go scriptless for some reason or want to have it more "realistic"
TrueWhiteKnight Jan 11, 2024 @ 9:09pm
i was planning to use mk2 offroad, but if the small grid is functional, i will likely do the mk1 unless you can explain how it works. im interested to learn how to make such things
kennet0508  [author] Jan 11, 2024 @ 8:34pm
so the small grid is MK-2 mechanical
kennet0508  [author] Jan 11, 2024 @ 8:32pm
theres 2 versions, mk-1 and 2
MK-1 is simpler and relies on script to angle the wheels, MK-2 is mechanical and doesnt use scripts for alignement
TrueWhiteKnight Jan 11, 2024 @ 6:06pm
in my efforts to cut it in half i learned it has small grid. is that just decorative or is it functional?
TrueWhiteKnight Jan 11, 2024 @ 5:55pm
yeah, im gonna flex seal it and saw it in half, add a few blocks between then with the power of flex seal it will be good as new. if i ever upload it to the workshop ill paste a link here :)

Thank you! id love to see what you do with it!
Ps, i noticed that the baserunner i took inspiration from has a wider base and shorter arms, so pro tip is to mix and match this a bit to your own design's needs.

This, This is exacty what I need to fight my way off the hostile, worm infested, dust filled, dry rock that is pertam. Aww Scrap + eat drink sleep + sand worms + ACS x MES = bad time. aircraft unreliable, trenches eat lesser rovers, and minimal access to ice for fuel. This could change the tides and I greatly appreciate your time and effort in designing this beast of a chassis.

Thank you @bevhilk | FP, i appreciate the compliment!

that's a really nice piece, i actually used something alike in one of my old builds (Dredge it is). But yours looks and works quite better))

@Knightforeyes: Thank you, it sure feels like black magic. but it is vanilla black magic that can be done using a script or buildvision.

Also: It did have one gyroscope on it, but it could certainly could warrant more xD
KnightForEyes Oct 20, 2023 @ 11:44am
Looks like made with Black Magic.... a Suspension we wanted from keen but finally someone did put it into the game... sadly with black magic but that'll do! Thanks.

Also the ending of the video... Why no one puts Gyroscope in these Vehicles! Ugh no one heard "Safety First!"
kennet0508  [author] Oct 14, 2023 @ 5:14pm
or are you talking about the MK-2's double control arms?
kennet0508  [author] Oct 14, 2023 @ 5:13pm
Not really, i want the Wheels to move as little as possible and the swing arm to do most of the work. The reason for it is so theres a low chance of bottoming out.

The instant you bottom out the wheel suspension something will most likely blows up. So the swing arm will have just enough strength to lift the vehicle and the wheel's own suspension will have about double so they kick in later.
Nobody Oct 14, 2023 @ 3:29pm
Thanks Kennet!!! Another question I have would be the meaning of your bases having the always uprighting mechanisms where the Wheels meet the swing arm, is the reason to allow for the wheel suspension to take more of the small bumps while saving the larger swing arm for bigger obstacles and thus it needs to be alligned more up and down?

Hey, check out your item, i left my initial feedback on it there, looks good :) i also posted a screenshot of something id add personally

Hey Kennet, Awesome collection of Vehicle Bases you got here man, was just wondering if you could look at my little rover here and critique it a lil bit or suggest some changes? :)

Thank you! :D

This is... Impressive..
kennet0508  [author] Oct 8, 2023 @ 12:41pm
Should work fine with both Mk-1 and Mk-2 as the Mk-1 has scripts that only aligns the rotors and a subgrid wheel controller, while the Mk-2 doesnt need any scripts apart from wheel control
kennet0508  [author] Oct 8, 2023 @ 12:39pm
I cant see why not, given the correct input values, does the DAS control all suspensions? or can you group them for better control?

Im asking since you probably want more strength on the 5x5 wheel suspensions than the 1x1 wheel suspensions to give it the best posibility you can to avoid bottoming out the 5x5 before the suspension arm
'KeithFromCanada' Olson Oct 8, 2023 @ 12:28pm
That looks very useful! Is it compatible with DAS? (https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1089115113) To be honest, I won't build rovers when I can't use it. It has saved my butt too many times, and its ability to automate massive cargo haulers moving across rough planetary surfaces is too good to give up.

Keep working m8 its perfect

Very interesting

damn that's clever engineering
Unruly Sep 22, 2023 @ 10:28am
@an egg cultist: there's multigrid projector, of course, but nothing for server. Dunno why keen keeps fighting that one. last I heard xocliw on the subject, he kept banging on about 'still too many edge cases'. MGP has been doing fine for over a year and half or more..

Love this idea, its a shame there is no subgrid printers...
ZEN_2255 Sep 21, 2023 @ 4:55am
Quite an old scheme, but a working one nonetheless.
Thanks for giving it a makeover. :se:
BIV Sep 21, 2023 @ 3:06am
All good mate, it's great work, looks good and works well. Perfect.
kennet0508  [author] Sep 21, 2023 @ 2:48am
Thank you BIV, it was something i was trying to get working a few years back, but with the introduction of the new short suspensions, and Whips script, i finally managed to get it up and running.

then the script inspired me to make the mechanical scriptless version of MK-2 (still needs the subgrid wheel controller ofc)
BIV Sep 20, 2023 @ 11:39pm
Looks great, the way it moved across the terrain in the video was mesmerising, until it blew up of course, but fantastic work IMO. Way above my level but I reckon folks will be considering strongly the use of your design. Cheers mate.
