@Electide That has been an issue since before 1.5, and other mods that add similar Mechanoids capable of working on gestators have the same bug. It seems to be an issue with the recipe itself, not the Mechanoid worker. Maybe being related to the fact that a Mechanoid worker cannot also have a Mechlink/bandwidth of it's own. Sadly I'm simply not able to do anything code related beyond just posting it into ChatGPT and hoping for the best, hopefully someone with more than three brain cells can find out how to get it working though.

My temporary solution is to simply make a new building/shelf that stores dead Mechanoids and heals their wounds slowly until they can be revived and repaired manually. I'd like to make it a proper released mod, but my current janky ass version is too unstable to be put on the workshop.

The progenitor mechanoid doesn't seem to be able to do resurrection bills at the mech gestator, given enough resources, even having nothing else to do and nowhere else to go. It also seems to stop them from doing normal mechanoid gestation bills when there's a resurrection bill higher up in the queue.

you can beat rimworld as a baby with a mechlink if you were start with the progenitor and enough equipment to make more mechanoids.

Hey is there any chance the code can be changed to attach to a tag instead of directly to the progenitor pawnkind, trying to make my own tiered mechs and would love to add a patch to have higher tiers of this but currently with how the code is its not possible with my skill level, just a request if its not possible then it is what it is. ty!

A solution to all the bugs with this mod would be to change it from a proper Mechanoid into a copy of one of the Androids Reforged T1 drones, with some work restrictions on it. It wouldn't cost any bandwidth and likely would need some work to use mech rechargers, but the root problems seem to boil down to a mech trying to do humanlike-pawn worktypes.
I see no reason you couldn't use the mech gestator to make a non-mechanoid class pawn.

The mech won't create subcores. Unsure if they are meant to, but they cannot create mechs alone because of this

@That Thing I noticed they only like to work if they're specifically set on the "Work" work mode, not "Wait and Work" etc. if you have the "more mech work types" mod. In general it seems like the mech is buggy because all the work givers for Mech things aren't set up for having robots do it.

Is this just not working for anyone else? The progenitor mech just doesn't do anything for me, it doesn't go to gestate mechanoids when resources to do so are available and when a recipe is set.

someone else said it was throwing errors when it tried, so I assume it's either an issue with the game or the mod.

Not sure if it is just coincidence, but it appears that it can't resurrect mechanoids. Is that intentional or is it a limitation of the game?

Yeah I reinstalled the progenitor still won't work the subcore encoder. It seems the coding may be more involved. oh well. I wouldn't be surprised how complex it is to bypass the mechanitor requirements. But I DO hope you get that working Thank you.

I get a big red error whenever a Progenitor tries to resurrect a dead mech. Not sure if it's just a mod conflict or something with the mod itself, but might as well post it and see if it's just me.

After some basic troubleshooting, it seems that this is a problem even with no other mods, (besides diagnostics mods), active. I'll see if I can bumble through things and get it working, if I do I'll post it here.

@sagg I hate to say it but your changes didn't seem to let the progenitor work at the subcore encoder building. Just letting you know. Its POSSIBLE my rimworld install is messy, because I did check your patch so it should do SOMETHING.

So tomorrow ill reinstall, which I was going to do anyways for other reasons. But I would test it on your end to be safe. Thank you. I really look forward to seeing a future where mechs can be fully autonomous. Like they should be able to.

To add to what @Emperor Lowa said, the base stats are almost identical to a fabricor. It's just specialised in working gestators in the mechanitors place. So in my case it frees up my mechanitor to travel more on caravans since they don't need to sit in the colony just to press a button every few days. Was hoping that this would let me do a nomad mechanitor run when I first saw this! :laughing_yeti:

By the way in the description it says they can repair other mechanoids, but they don't seem to repair mechs in my experience unless ordered to when drafted.

For others as i had to test this as I was excited by the prospect of the progenitor mech.

It does not personally gestate mechs internally, it is just capable of working the regular gestator buildings as it will fill and start the gestation cycles, a regular mechanitor or alternate will still be needed... I would add that to the description.

Also if possible could you give the progenitor mech the ability to work at the subcore encoder? Would be fitting work for them. Please and thank you, I love the idea of a fully automated mech colony.

Or at least go all Torsolo mode and have your mechs build other mechs and build a body so you can proceed with furthering your super villian plans and proceed to take over the world. Nice

from what i have heard you can add contributers, if they are your steam-friends. I could be wrong, but that is how i got to be a contributer to a mod i commissioned :)
