Well there's still 2hu, just not as overly-prevalent... and better written. Definitely not as good as dev-build 4.0, but that's a given really. The stranglehold though yeah, it's fascinating. Sure as hell got me, and now I like seija who is canonically a dipshit, though honestly that goes for like 90% of canon touhous. GIC is just "what if they're all adults and couldn't or wouldn't instantly vaporize someone for interrupting their autistic stone-stacking session".

As for the music description... Eh, to me it was big, but I guess that's only within the "2hu circles". I'll probably change that description then. Looking to integrate the music into the main mod soon anyways.
Tengu_Civitas  [author] Jul 16 @ 12:09pm
We add nothing outside of GIC planets.
I3eauLeBoi Jul 16 @ 11:27am
I'll try and find a way to figure it out then.
SUIK IBUIK Jul 16 @ 1:49am
btw, got a slightly more relevant issue
while i might be like the only person to even consider this, the music mod description is slightly misleading, not because its "STACK PV" and "Stack", i think if you know who Stack is that aint an issue

the auto claim stuff isnt really true though, it used to happen after the resolution of the whole deadman incident but otherwise, autoclaims only ever reliably happen on arranges Stack did vocals on but arent released by Akatsuki
(also, cant prove this but im pretty sure if you contact Stack she will act, purely basing this off the fact she gave me free money several times, truly a nice goddess)

i must admit, i do like seeing Akatsuki being called big, wish that was true

shoutout to steam for limiting comments to 1k chars....which is never enforced but wtv

part 2 to prev comment

is it strange though, touhou is a permanent blessing/curse, cant really forget it with the stranglehold on internet culture
personally, i find it very appealing as a touhou fan, no other mod with so much touhou stuff in it... i hope? i did kinda not play for 3 years lol

(i hate how small the cutoff was)
SUIK IBUIK Jul 16 @ 1:44am
oh noes, im gonna turn these comments into a debate place

while i agree with the whole no average member of Gensokyo thing, one must not forget that no matter the fanon, Gensokyo is an alternate timeline which is kept alive by the limited populace, being a refuge for being forgotten, be it youkai, spirits or deities

in a morbid way, everyone in Gensokyo not able to traverse dimensions is in a state of limbo, being both dead and alive

ironically, this makes the non mundane setting very much fitting for a more bleak portrayal, weird how that worked out (also, i love the idea of "edgy" "anime" girls, the lunarians literally commit genocide (and are themselves victims of one) yet its portrayed like any other fun day in the setting, gotta be the least edgy franchise, i swear)
Tengu_Civitas  [author] Jul 16 @ 1:35am
Honestly a big part of this was also just a lack of "2hu souls" ngl. There was this other decade-old project that had a demo fight, but I feel like people miss the point that souls isn't entirely just about boss fights. I also never really personally liked the lack of "normal people representation" in 2hu media. I like the grunts and the mundane. I know it's ironic given 2hu is literally just "cute magical girls" and it doesn't need to be any more than that, but I like seeing the two worlds combined.

All this to end up saying that personally I feel like GIC is in that funny position where because it's not entirely Touhou, it doesn't 100% appeal to Touhou fans anyways. And then you've got the other end where because it *has* Touhou, they're turned off thinking it's only about overpowered edgy anime girls. But I've got no regrets. That combination is what I think is the best about this silly 2d tactical shooter souls-like melee combat 2d platformer project.
Tengu_Civitas  [author] Jul 16 @ 1:32am
In a way it's very strange to think about the touhou part. I got into it just before release of this project and it existed as a reference with Momiji as a miniboss, but then it influenced the project a lot and it was sort of skirted around with alternate names and calling Gensokyo "the otherworld" for a scrapped storyline. It was obvious, but I nor anyone else at the time had the balls to admit it.

But *after* some drama (the one that spiralled into the falsified copyright claim) that resulted in some bad members being removed and their assets replaced, it then ironically did two things: It shifted attention back to "non-touhou" as well as outright admitting that many elements were touhou.

With 4.0's long ongoing dev cycle, it ended up with completely embracing Touhou as a *core* plot element. But the biggest thing that stuck was never power-scaling the 2hus too far past regular grunts/infantry, as well as *trying* to explore the very human side of them.
SUIK IBUIK Jul 16 @ 12:51am
on a side note, ever considered you posses one of the biggest touhou mods in the west, if the steam stats are to be trusted (well, a modern touhou mod at least), thats quite coolio id say

oh and when you think about it, youre simply living a very accurate Seija life, minus that whole bounty on your head part
Tengu_Civitas  [author] Jul 16 @ 12:29am
Thanks, man.

Things have been rough over a free project because it seems no mod project can ever go without some sort of drama or scandal. It's inevitable apparently. And yeah, even getting to a point when someone tried to actually put a stop to this project and steal it through falsified copyright claims.

I still wish things were different back then and that I hadn't let the wrong crowd have as much influence over me or the project, but it is what it is.

4.0's in truth still a distance away. I thought I'd have it out half a year ago but every bit of reinvestigation and run of this project reveals more problems with its fundamentals, and more time needed to revise everything. Shouldn't be long now though. I'll have time soon to get some dev-news out.

Again, thanks for the kind words, mate. I do the best I can.
SUIK IBUIK Jul 15 @ 10:09pm
oh gosh, im so glad i never unsub threads
...shame i never subbed the comments
im glad to see this mod still exists, let alone is being worked on, feels very weird seeing 2k+ comments here though

ive just come to say, even if late (what is a year anyway... legit sorry for semi-necroing this incident)
Tengu, i just want you to know, your genuinely professional and polite conduct those 3 years ago made this lil mess of a tism no longer afraid of voicing problems with products, there may be people hating you for this or that, but there will always be at least one person who to this day is grateful you exist

good luck with getting 4.0 out
i will absolutely try driving a mech into hostile npcs first chance i get when it drops :D

TO: Tanya

Right now it's only from certain stores, iirc.

Upcoming 4.0 will allow regular crafting and bullet scavenging.
Tengu_Civitas  [author] Jul 15 @ 8:44pm
TO: unicronB

Should just be from the False Protector. The boss door can be found under the Federal Depot (large building surrounded by highways, often on the other side of the planet from spawn).
unicronB Jul 15 @ 11:40am
Where do i get the ruin's vestigial eye for the wartorn quest?
Tanya Jul 12 @ 11:39am
how do i get more gunpowder?
I3eauLeBoi Jul 9 @ 4:31am
What does gic add in regards of encounters/generated locations outside of the main handmade planets?
Tengu_Civitas  [author] Jul 3 @ 8:59pm
Huh?
Un42nately Jul 3 @ 8:25pm
for any steam drivebys who can't scroll like 100px, moar time needed, you may want to ignore the topmost comment and use it as is. might make the difference more stark. let's not be cursefonge
Ortoblast Jun 30 @ 3:11am
Nice
Tengu_Civitas  [author] Jun 21 @ 8:34am
Thanks lads.

It's "close" but it's definitely not "next month". There's still an insane amount of things to get rolling. So damned close.
Realm Imp Jun 20 @ 11:05pm
we can wait. take your time. dont care if it takes years just as long you lads are satisfied with the update
kerekentesheki Jun 20 @ 7:51am
spend as much time as you think is necessary, I want to see a good update, if that's what it takes, then I'll wait, okay?
Tengu_Civitas  [author] Jun 19 @ 8:42pm
Not right now, no.

It will become important for the upcoming v4.0 update, but that's still a distance away.
Tori Alice Jun 19 @ 1:02pm
does it matter if i use a GiC species or not?
Tengu_Civitas  [author] Jun 17 @ 7:31pm
I don't know.
椎名こはく Jun 17 @ 3:10am
When will update 4.0 I can't wait any more
✦DeraNemira✦ Jun 15 @ 9:29pm
the mod look good and well made but it's more of a overall then a actual addition to the existing gameplay make most vanilla stuff useless stat wise with a HUGE difference when you go from vanilla weapon doing around 0 to 10 dmg at start to 25/100/200 dmg depending on what you pick
Tengu_Civitas  [author] Jun 12 @ 6:10pm
All g chief, and thanks.

Still trying to get that 4.0 update out but the workload getting everything up to higher quality has been a rough one. Hell, most of the "learning process" now is gonna become very different when 4.0 comes around. Admittedly right now, the balancing is pretty skewed (mostly for enemies).
Zaroff's Eights Jun 12 @ 6:19am

Do you guys still have a discord link? I'd like some help learning how to toughen up my character. Or learn some of the mechanics with help.
Tengu_Civitas  [author] Jun 10 @ 5:08pm
As of right now you can go to most other GIC planets and find an access door that will then take you directly there.

How can I go back to the Bazaar Between Time? My computer suddenly crashed and now I can't go back to that place after interacting with the traveller's meter that completes the starting quest.

Gud mod :)
I can murder people with BEEG ROCKET
That make me very happys :D
John Dee Jun 4 @ 5:07am
So, been playin'. I must say the concept is *REALLY* good; but...

I'd set the whole thing as a series of "flashback" sequences, since the content does not mesh at all with SB; not thematically, playstyle-wise, neither aesthetically. The tone of the stories is radically different to vanilla, and it gets a jarring; the crafting is parallel to SB's main system, and end up mostly ignored except for the *extremely* OP weapons, not to mention the voiced dialogues instead of SB's textboxes; and the aesthetics, while internally consistent and*amazing* quality, seem to be made with a different game and tone in mind.

I would make sure the player has the opportunity to enjoy this *GORGEOUS* content you've made with, clearly, so much love and dedication without cross-contaminating with the main StarBound content; both SB and GiC deserve the player experiences them best they can be so.
HerrBierschiss Jun 3 @ 1:26pm
Wow i was watching to play the game again, but this mod looks sooooooo good. Hyped for 4.0 <3
oub13 Jun 3 @ 2:45am
dont forget take your time and dont rush yourself [as nothing good comes from that].
Tengu_Civitas  [author] May 31 @ 11:56pm
On a technical level, it's fully compatible. GIC content won't leak into FU, and FU won't leak into GIC unless you bring gear from either-or into eachother.
Rex May 31 @ 11:51pm
Was hoping to play the game again recently but I guess I'll wait till this updates.

How's the compatibility with FU btw?
Tengu_Civitas  [author] May 30 @ 11:34pm
Much appreciated danny. This project has been through years of labor and passion.

We're still working on the 4.0 update and implementing a lot more military and story elements, so hopefully we can get that out in the coming months.
dannyb3001 May 30 @ 11:29pm
Hey I just wanted to say, thank you so much for putting this awesome mod together. This single-handedly revived Starbound for me!
Tengu_Civitas  [author] May 27 @ 9:14pm
It's all good nowadays. It's more of a background thing. Wasn't like in August last year when it first hit us that it took the wind out of the team having to deal with it at first.

Now those reposters just plaster their "copyright" over their fraudulent page and pretend like they "just want to mod in peace" as if they didn't just try to get this project deleted. It is what it is.
Evenstaar May 27 @ 12:30pm
Ew, I hate people who take other people's work. Y'all put a lot of time and effort into this, I'm glad you're dealing with that fraudster.
Khaiø May 27 @ 7:47am
Now that ya mentioned it, no wonder why the other mod's posters looked familiar...
Khaiø May 27 @ 7:46am
@Tengu_Civitas
Ooo, alrighty. Hope that gets solved soon!
Tengu_Civitas  [author] May 24 @ 9:16pm
We're aware. It's a long story, but the "showdown branch" is a stolen older version of GIC with the reposter claiming himself to be the "original dev before he was kicked out" (which is a hard claim when he can't actually do any coding or art). He also attempted to falsely copyright-claim us nearly a year ago, but that fell flat as he had no valid legal representation despite a falsified copyright claim.

The images he used for the showdown branch page are my old "faction posters" I made a few years ago. You can check my artwork section of my profile if you need to corroborate. It's pretty old by now.

We'll deal with him legally in due time, we're just working on the 4.0 update in the meantime since he's not a real threat anymore. If you have any questions or need any specifics like the full evidence package, it'll be on the Discord we have.
Khaiø May 24 @ 7:45pm
Specifically titled the Showdown Branch.
Khaiø May 24 @ 7:44pm
@Tengu_Civitas

I have noticed there are now TWO versions of GiC on the workshop page, the second one having familiar-looking images.
