This took a while! Good to find a map that looks fab AND has a good logical puzzle. Big thumbs up.

Sorry I broke this one using the turret leg and a weird portal angle

Looks hard at the beginning, but finally it's not. Great job, again!
BehindPortal Sep 14, 2017 @ 3:19am
that was little medium for me. good job btw.
gamecreator Jan 24, 2017 @ 10:25pm
While I didn't spend 1.5 hours on it, it definitely took me a while to figure it out.

I would rate it a little higher than medium. Great map!
otahitie Jun 2, 2015 @ 3:19pm
nice map, not too hard but interesting puzzles and good ambiance.
Very painstaking work !
I've enjoyed. Thanks a lot ! ( love details like at the end with the study place. )

Challenging and entertaining. 10/10
Who is Ben?
Nonody No-One Feb 22, 2015 @ 4:01pm
I don't htink I used the intended solution. My method had no cube respawns necessary, no cube switches, etc.

A fun and rewarding puzzle, not too frustrating. I agree about the feeling when you see you need to get both cubes to the exit, but it wasn't as hard as it seemed at first. If you remember about re-spawning for one cube and that drop-down portal surface for the other one, it actually goes pretty quickly. I didn't need to noclip, so I guess I'm not a pro. :D
quaternary Oct 25, 2014 @ 4:55pm
Augh, that ending move though. Loved it.
Petutski Sep 26, 2014 @ 1:03pm
Ha! Just figured out I did not need to do what I did in the previous comment! Nicely done!
Petutski Sep 26, 2014 @ 12:39pm
Excellentg clever map. I hate setting up redirection cubes on old trash, however. Great work!
TS_Mind_Swept Jul 28, 2014 @ 10:41pm
Diabolical, Conveluted, words cannot describe these puzzles, and if not for this walkthrough https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z6rlQsS3STw i would have never finished. Why do you do it? make answers that are obvious so far out of our minds reach? I saw a comment down there that said "You should have seen the look on my face when i saw those two cube buttons", and I was all "EXACTLY!" I actually had less trouble with Delapidation then this series so far, I hope i don't keep getting my rear handed to me on a platter like i have been so far. @.@ 7/10
quaternary Jun 19, 2014 @ 5:21pm
Dang. I noclipped to get the second box up there because I'm pro. Coming back later to solve it like a normal person.

Just FYI, one of the boxes is a lot dirtier than the other, if that helps you figure it out in the end.
robin_z Jun 6, 2014 @ 9:55pm
Figured it out. This was a great map, excellent puzzle.
robin_z Jun 6, 2014 @ 3:23pm
Finally got past the turrets and up the platform, proud that I'd made it, only to see, with horror that I needed to bring the two cubes with me! Argh! Back to the drawing board.

That awkward moment when you find the secret* room at the end, and your name is Ben...

*I use the term 'secret' very loosely.
C.L.P.rey Apr 9, 2014 @ 3:08pm
nice chamber, very clever, yet simple, took me 20 minutes to solve, what looks impossible, is very easy, so nice job, and congratulations for the ending secret writings, i hope this don't sound like a spoiler, i'm saying WHERE to find it. Add me if you want, i build chamber too.
Very large ones.
thepeculiarpastry Mar 31, 2014 @ 11:03pm
Also, @Instantiation

I totally just ran at them. I also fell once or twice, and the save happens right before I kill them, so I did it each and every time, so it wasn't luck. I killed them by knocking them over a total of 9 times altogether, 3 times I had to do with with 3 turrets (so, 3x3).
thepeculiarpastry Mar 31, 2014 @ 10:59pm
Incredibly, I spent about 30 minutes thinking about it in the beginning and getting nowhere. Once I invited my ex-girlfriend over, however, I found myself thinking aloud a lot more and solved it fairly quickly and nearly prematurely (perhaps why she's an ex).

If anyone's having trouble, use the Rubber Duck method. Computer programmers often sit a Rubber Duck by their computer to talk to out loud so that they can verify that the logic of their program actually makes sense. Having someone or something to talk out the reasoning is very helpful. Try talking aloud, even without someone or something.
Konke Mar 22, 2014 @ 7:22am
Excellent visuals, perhaps a little bit laggy on my computer but still looks good. I see you've put a lot of work into the layout. I found the puzzle quite difficult, but that's just me. At the end of it, well done.

это было очень тяжело
Pork Chop Feb 6, 2014 @ 12:54pm
Ya, i also feel like i cheated with angled cubes. I didn't look at the solution, but my way didn't seem like your style. Still, a nice confidence booster level. I hope the next one crushes me.
Instantiation Jan 28, 2014 @ 8:49am
A fairly clever map. I was pretty pleased with myself when I got the solution.
Also, I like that the turrets were actually a threat and required intervention of the laser variety . It's never satisfying when I can just run at them and win.
marius.bratecu Jan 21, 2014 @ 4:23pm
my solution feelt bugy as it involved placing one of the cubes at an angle to rise the bridge using the rised tile at the buton near the laser
ZAEROS Jan 21, 2014 @ 2:35am
Stunning, even when its a second run from a long time ago.. Definitely the best Map / set of Maps of all time. Thank you.

RagingR2 Jan 7, 2014 @ 1:17pm
I don't know if this was intentional but I felt totally confused by the tilted surface. For some reason I was stuck on the idea that I had to put the lens cube just before the entrance portal. It was possible to hit the laser recepticle that way to raise the bridge, but then there was no way to get to the bridge . I didn't really like this 'dead end' that the map seems to suggest to you. For that, 6/10 from me, but since I can only choose from two options, it's a thumbs up. Your maps are very nicely made otherwise. :p2aperture:

Like the Santa hat.
Dr. FeelGoose Dec 6, 2013 @ 4:35pm
Can you at least make the next one 10% easier? Still cool, even though hard. XD
wildgoosespeeder Dec 2, 2013 @ 9:20pm
Read my profile before reading the rest of my comment!

I found this chamber easier than Part 1 but it is still a challenge none-the-less. Good one! Performing a switcheroo with the two laser cubes and sacrificing one of them twice is required to solve the test.

Try my SP map?
Try my COOP map?

Dude, I really love your maps. This one was a bit easy, but fun though. Keep it up!

Thanks, now the glass works properly!
About the light, my env_projectedtexture was actually set correctly but it casted the shadow on the water so it was almost invisible...
The only thing now is the very bright light spot...I thought it was the light_spot but apparently is not...
LoneWolf2056  [author] Nov 18, 2013 @ 11:14am
@[ExR]-IAMV0LDY You need to change the value in the brightness scale for the projected texture, I use between 4-6, the glass requires cubemaps to properly generate reflections, you need to add in env_cubemaps and then build them in game, you should look it up on the Valve Developer Wiki.
[ExR]-IAMV0LDY Nov 18, 2013 @ 10:40am
Hey, it's me again with some more questions!
How do you make the strong lights that project shadows? I am working on my map but i can't get that look with the env_projectedtexture!
Other thing: how do you make broken glass windows like the room with the decal "Ben died here"? I tried make em with a prop_dynamic grabbing a glss model but the illimunation of the glass is taotally wrong (in quite dark room it's much brighter than anythign else) with random reflections. Any advise? Thanks!
Bearkiller72 Oct 25, 2013 @ 11:56am
Magnificent! Looking so difficult to solve, but only if U don't think with portals...No jumping and razzmatazz funky acrobatics needed here, easy does the trick! And so tricked me, 'cause I was thinking complicated and not with portals. 10/10. :-D
hodosil Oct 21, 2013 @ 7:07am
Thanks for making one of the cubes dirty. It's good to know which is which.
1980 Oct 21, 2013 @ 6:22am
Having played this map again just fr fun, I got to know another solution. It just depends on where players place one portal after they succeeded in activating the elevator and getting on the exit ledge. For example, if players placed blue portal near the angled portalable surface, they can just open orange portal in front of the exit, go through it and get the cube on the ledge jumping up. It's not high enough. The other solution is as follow. After getting on the exit ledge, players open the portal through which the beam was directed to the cube(not the portal the beam gets into), and they just get into where they can respawn the cube by pressing the cube button, and things are made up for them to get out the test.
PsychoBR Oct 21, 2013 @ 5:20am
Nice map! I dont have time for solve now. Are a bit tricky. But, congrats for the great map and thanks. Put a walktrough with the intent solution.
I recorded my gameplay (valve DEM file format): Download [dl.dropboxusercontent.com]. Comments inside video.

Amazing map, Thank you!
piotr_mil Oct 19, 2013 @ 10:39am
Average map. Nothing amazing, although a cube placement was a bit tricky.
Chiscringle Oct 19, 2013 @ 10:03am
Well made. Not sure what the long fall portal surface was for.
LPChip Oct 18, 2013 @ 3:44pm
Great puzzle. I didn't solve it intentionally as I placed the cube on the debris. But thtats more because I completely missed that ledge due to insufficient lighting, and because the laser can be directly put on the catcher when using the angled portable surface. Other than that, it was not that hard. Medium difficulty sounds about right.

I also had a blind-run recording but somehow youtube has trouble with it and I didn't realize that soon enough, so I had already removed my videofiles before I found out youtube screwed up my video. I didn't need the 2 surfaces that are below ground level.
