@Ġedryht of Wōden The scutum as used by the Romans had metallic edging. Polybius directly states that both the top and bottom edges were covered with iron and archaeology has turned up a number of finds of such edging. It isn't until the move to using ovoid instead of obloid shaped shields that this stops.

The "Norse Shield" wasn't really Norse though. Everybody across the Eurasia (England, Italy, Arabia, India, you name it) used Roundshields during the Viking era (794-1066).
It was developed back in the Bronze age, though many cultures preferred other shields (like the wickershield, aspis & ovalshield).
However the Roundshield got popular. Even the late Romans used Roundshields over the iconic Scutum.
Roundshields continued to be used by the Scottish up until the 18th century (called a Targe).
They also didn't use any less iron than a kiteshield. The rim of shields back then was never iron, only the boss (center). The edge was lined with rawhide (for the scutum, roundshield and kiteshield).
Sometimes the rawhide was made to look fancy with metal bands that kept it in place (look up "Sutton Hoo shield"). Even high status people didn't bother to place metal around their shields as it was undesireable. Afterall, if the enemy gets his weapon stuck in your shield it's bad news for them.

somehow it is the problem with causing no faction spawned on my world.
Don't know why but it just is for me.

I find an unofficial update for 1.4 on github : https://github.com/emipa606/Combat-Shields ,it seems that Mlie has helped update this mod ,but the original author didn't notice that

Unfortunately, that version of the mod REQUIRES Combat Extended - as in, the mod can not be used without it.

you know...instead of making us have to patch ranged weapons to be usable with shields, you could of just added in a mod option to let you toggle which ranged weapons can be used with shields, like how Unofficial VE Shields Addon does. which would be much easier for us, and saves us a lot of time from having to look into the mod files and patch the weapon with the line of code to make it so we can use that weapon with the shield.

Apparently pawns can equip the shield with a one handed ranged weapon, but put the shield in their inventory once I equip them with a one handed melee weapon, anyone knows what's going on?

Is there a fix for the bug where pawns get stuck swapping between equipping two shields over and over forever? I found if I forbid the one on the ground then the pawn walks off seemingly happy with the one shield which was equipped at the time. However, my storage room is now becoming full of shields with forbid on them as this has happened multiple times.

For some reason my Pawns wont use a onehanded sword and shield together. They only ever have their weapon out and not the shield even though the weapon is compatable with shields.

Hi i need some help if someone can answer me, my pawns dont equip shields in their inventory, they pick them up and they show as "forced" (bc i forced them) but it dosn't show in their body nor in their inventory
i installed "RIMMSqol" as someone say to remove the "light" thing? but i dont know how to use it, i dont have CE, the mods i think could be in confligt are;
simple sidearms
vanilla weapons expanded (as some guy in comments sayed)
show me your hands

can someone explain me how to change the "light" thing or if someone fixed this error? im not the first one having it, sometimes they equip the shields, sometimes they dont, mostly they dont
console isnt showing any error too

please help i love this mod :(

yes it will makem riot more, BUT they will be harder to kill which is a good thing, and slower which is a bonus, slower movement lower rebelion, with weapon it come out with mroe rebellion./ I myself equip my slaves with shields. Means they are actualy easier to capture for me. But that may vary on your prison, numbers and wardens.
AND your rite!
Equip with a shield, try it out, I find the bonus medic xp and less likly to kill slave a benefit.

i know of 3 different shields that could be added that should be better for ranged people, Boarding Shields from 40k have a simple cutout where you place your gun meanwhile the CIS in Star Wars has a riot shield that you can have the gun pass through the shield and then IRL there is just a strait up gun that is part of a shield, that is 3 tiers of shields right here Medieval (Gunshield), Industrial (Siege Shield) and Spacer (Energy Shield)
Gunshield: a slow reload but works pretty well as a normal shield
Siege Shield: a heavy shield that improves accuracy but due to the weight its not good in CQC, can be used with most guns
Energy Shield: a light shield allowing any gun to be used with it, dose not help at all in CQC nor give stat boosts

Do not patch for combat extended lol, it just breaks games lolol

Oh dear, never mind me, I've already found out how to fix these stupid bugs, not really a bug just some stuff going on in thing def xml relates to weapon tag and it's all VWE fault not Combat Shield =]]]

@bearhiderug hey about these 2 patches from VWE QD and MS, I know these 2 are for CE which I do not use so error occur, as you said it is safe to ignore, but is there any way that I can fix so these errors disappear, very hard to look at everytime I open the game. I've been messing around xml files for quite sometimes, so I might know how to edit these.
