Nice idea but flawed.
Good part
-creates city connection
Bad part
-doesnt allow for land trading
-weird maps can make a work boat a very bad choice to create this. A work would be a much better choice
- cannot be upgraded to railroad
- entering the bridge cost a full point of movement. Exiting it kills the entire movement.
Because of this units will almost always go through the water instead, specially if you have amphibious promotion.

MAthematics os a bit weird of a tech to have this. Engineering would make more sense

I have no idea why, and I'm assuming you need work boats for this, but I don't have any menu options for building pontoon bridges. The AIs apparently can, but not me, which is kind of a problem. :/

EDIT:
Right as I said this, after moving it around for a bit and docking then undocking from a different town, it suddenly decided to appear for some reason. <_> That's weird.

Ah, I see, it's because it can't be built next to resource tiles...

Adds a whole new dynamic to the game, especially when waging war on island maps. Can't believe I went so many years without this. Superb.

Super mod, it works perfectly. Even if it could be built on a railway bridge. Would it be possible to do that?

Sadly seems to have broken for me, even though I'm sure I installed it correctly. It worked fine in previous games, maybe there's a mod conflict?

It really makes islands more useful as well as enchancing overall Civilization 5 gameplay impressions.

This mod looks great. I have a few questions on the techical side since I can't find enough info elsewhere.

1. Is the bridge a 2D texture or a 3D model?
2. How was it added?

Just to clarify something, you need to have this moded loaded for the bridges to be in the game. You can, however, start the game with both this mod and IGE, place a few bridges, and then load the game with this mod but without IGE and the placed bridges will be fine. Basically, the improvement data only exists in the code of this mod, so without this mod loaded, the game would read an improvement that doesn't exist on those plots (and I think just converts them to city ruins as thats the default null improvement). IGE doesn't really add anything to the database, it just edits the map based on the existing database (from the base game and other loaded mods). So, it can be used and then disabled no problem as along as everything else loaded for that game is still there.

You will need to have the mod loaded for the bridges to work; i.e. you can't place them and then start the game without the mod loaded as that would cause missing entries in the improvements database. Otherwise, the mod should wokr fine with IGE.

two questions one: does the pontoon boat show on IGE when they are paired. two: i usually use IGE and then reload it as a normal game (as in i dont hit mods i hit single player) because if i use IGE too much, let alone keep the mod running even if im not using it, then the game refuses to load back up for me, so my question is when i have these bridges contructed or place in-game, will they still be there when i reload, or will the workers still be able to build them

Hey guys, sorry for not responding to comments more quickly. I’ve been pretty busy with stuff outside of modding.

I don't believe caravans use them but this is a limitation of the game code and can't be modded in. I doubt the other mod enables it as the other mod is just the base game XML while this mod is the base XML and a large amount of LUA to add additional functionality.

While I do enjoy being able to bridge my way over to city-states on nearby islands, I'm not a big fan of caravans being unable to cross these bridges. Will we ever see an update to fix this?

First of all I have to say that your mod is very nice and usefull !! But I have a problem.
I didn't play civ 5 for a while, and my save had the v17 of your mod.
So, 2 days ago, I played and download your last version, v19
But my save doesn't want to work anymore !!
I'm sorry if you don't really understand, english isn't my native language, but I think I must have the v17 of Pontoon Bridge, after my save will work !!

Can you make it so you can remove your own pontoon bridges? You should be able to take down bridges that you build in order to deny them to the enemy.

Regarding the AI using pontoon bridges: I've found that in my games (mostly on island-based maps), they tend to use them a lot. As in, nearly every legal tile for building one in their territory will have one, regardless of whether it's a good idea. City-states too. Despite that, AI civs don't usually build roads that would let them make city connections through the pontoon bridge. It's not a major problem, but it is a bit odd.

The AI will use the improvement to a limited extent (varies based on map type). I couldn't get land trade routes the recognize the tile, however.

Canals are a little more complicated as the game doesn't really have anything to allow water units on land like it does with land on water. Normally it would require a DLL edit. There are some workarounds, but I think it would cause graphical issues.

Yeah, there was no mod civs with unique work boats when I first made the mod, so I didn't account for them :P I'll have to figure out a workaround. Thanks for the heads up.

I've noticed a bug when using this in conjunction with a civ with a UU that replaces the Work Boat (specifically, Sukritract's Chinookan civ): I'll be able to build a pontoon bridge on any water tile with two adjacent land tiles, even if they're contiguous. Doesn't seem to have any serious implications, but I figured I could pass it along.
