Whoever is a fan of Mongol history has to play this.

This is absolutely fantastic. Perhaps among the top 3, if not top 2, best scenarios I've played here. Great job making this!

Seriously enjoyable scenario! I went from having to dodge the Merkits on my raids to decimating the other players, Merkits long defeated. I would delight in campaigns in the future for Kublai Khan (scenarios conquering Dali and Song, Korea, civil war, Marco Polo likely showing up somewhere), maybe Elizabeth I or Theodoric the Great and you could really utilize those and do a great job of it.

Finally got some time to play this some more...

For anyone interested: at max pop (100) with a full stack of mangudai/HCA as primary damage dealers, it took 4 waves of fully upgraded Hussars (about 25-30 at a time) as meat shields to break the Jin gate and take down the castle. So it IS doable, but it's unquestionably kinda tedious.

If you're gonna re-do this, I suggest give the player some way to deal with the fortifications that's not OP like a treb would be- maybe a 1-shot opportunity to get some good ol' fashioned petards? Make it a high risk-high reward opportunity to finish the defenses in one shot, IF you can overcome the ChuKoNu unit spam?

@Filthydelphia More incoming in D.E !?!! *squeeeeaaaaal*
Well, I guess it's time to resign myself to the fact that I need to cancel all my social life for a while again, and focus on the important things. AoE2 D.E campaigns >:D
Looking forward to it, thanks again ^_^
JRichter Aug 4, 2019 @ 8:47pm
So we can wait for more campaigns like this??
kud13 Aug 2, 2019 @ 2:40pm
Cool. I initially expected some sort of story considering the Naimans were recent converts to Christianity, so allying with them could alienate the traditional religions, or something. All those little shrines as eye-candy felt they'd have more significance, lol
Filthydelphia  [author] Aug 2, 2019 @ 1:18pm
Kud13, no, just a healing station although maybe I will make it have functionality for a Definitive Edition remaster of this scenario.
kud13 Aug 1, 2019 @ 4:59am
Does the "Buddhist monk" in the north-west serve any purpose, other than being another "healing station?"

The Xi Xia villagers chop down the trees next to the eastern wall when they work the fields in the eastern Town Centre.

This creates a weakness in their defense, because Mangudai or cavalry archers can breach that wall outside range of the city's towers. And once your units can get in, it's pretty inevitable that all those towers and production buildings will go down.

Not sure if there's a way to make those trees off limit for the AI, but right now it looked like it made its own weakness.

Xerxes, thank you very much for such kind words. It's always great to hear that I've helped people have fun and learn a little history as well!

I have been fortunate enough to be able to continue my relationship with Forgotten Empires for Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition. You will be able to see some more of my scenarios included as official content for the game. I will also be releasing some custom scenarios as well so stay tuned.
Xerxes-BFG Jul 5, 2019 @ 3:23pm
Everytime I play this scenario (and it's been a few times now!) I am struck by how wonderful, well thought out, and enjoyable it is. You make some of (if not *the* ) most fantastic AoE related content on the workshop.
Just wanted to extend my great respect, appreciation, and a sincere wish that you will continue to grace us with such wonders <3

Simple, easy, enormous amount of resources, fun at first but quite boring st the end (if you dont have to defeat China why is a primary objective? but done with waves of knights) and wtf is a khurim? I missed 1
egonzalez.ieu2013 Apr 26, 2019 @ 5:02am
I wish this had a part 2
Dirk3K Feb 4, 2019 @ 11:52pm
This was so fun and it kept so true to the actual history of the Great Khan. Thanks for this, you did an amazing job good sir.

If the "delete" key does not work on your computer, I recommend going into the game's options then hotkeys and changing the "Delete Unit" hotkey from delete to another key and using that. Note that this is a single-scenario campaign so there is no second chapter that you unlock by winning this scenario.

i just dont know how to end at the first chapter,“delete“ to finish the game isnt work for my laptop,

Awesome campaign! It does the exact same things as the Bjorn and Floki campaign but way better. It doesnt feel grindy, it gives you structured rewards that help you and keep the game interesting and the game has a lot of flavour, be it eyecandy or narrative aspects. It was hard, especially when the purple player has tons of monks and the orange tons of cav archers, but it forces you to micro your units/heroes.

After i defeated all the tribes i went for the chinese, but thats where it went tedious and i stopped. I know the mongols didn't have siege, but attacking walls with swords isnt very immersive too, haha. I strongly feel like that part of the campaign could have been a separate scenario with as much details put into it as the rest of the map, when conquering the tribes. For example you could have that mission where you buy/capture siege weapons for a ton of gold, it makes it challenging, but not tedious.
The Watman Nov 18, 2018 @ 11:48am
One of the best campaigns on Steam.
Chr0m3 Sep 18, 2018 @ 11:33am
Could anyone explain what "hold feasts" means?! How do I do that?!
gregmcgerg Sep 8, 2018 @ 6:58am
Awesome scenario! One really gets a feeling for the vastness of the steppe while exploging the map; especially with the choice for the custom music. Also like the creative way of economy build up. This was the first map I played from you, and I'm pumped to try the other ones :)
Once again, great work. Keep it up!
Cihangir Akkurt Aug 13, 2018 @ 2:57am
Maybe you can consider making horses appear only after the camps are razed and enemies are killed totally.

My enemies kept killing them as those horses change sides the minute they see you
Gizza Aug 5, 2018 @ 3:58am
very nice map, the gameplay was very hard at first but worthwile! Map seems inspired by the hun raiding mission. only complaint I have is that unlike the huns, the mongols don't have building killers without their siege. makes it a bit tedious to conquer the chinese. played the whole scenario on x8 and glad I did. playing time was around 6 hours. Maybe give the mangudai a building bonus or something?
bassi Jul 29, 2018 @ 3:43pm
@Heikneuter: Designers tend to upload single player scenarios as campaigns, so the player can not change any settings. also, only the campaign format gives the designer the possibility to implement custom background for the scenario selection menu etc. the majority of the campaigns in the workshop is in fact scenarios.
Heikneuter Jul 29, 2018 @ 1:18pm
Fun scenario, but not a campaign, 8/10 :D
HereticKannon Jul 29, 2018 @ 1:05am
Oustanding scenario, it's plain to see that you put a lot of work into this. I'm really looking forward to see what you come up with next!
Xerxes-BFG Jul 27, 2018 @ 6:46am
Exquisite.

Nothing more needs adding, it was simply... exquisite.

Please continue!

about half way through my first play on standard, the horses get pretty much instakilled the moment i spotted them (as i got to imperial too quickly and warred with all tribes), and the Naiman has around 20+ monks around each of their Monasteries (of course AI waste most of the conversion on a couple of units making the monks still manageable, but still was a slight shock the first time i saw that! Otherwise very good game so far :)
JRichter Jul 22, 2018 @ 9:27pm
do the whole campaign bro! thanks in advance! :steamhappy:
