HeXen would most likely be difficult to create with all the scripting, connected levels, hubs, etc. Though the enemies and items wouldn't be that difficult to work out.

It will open your file explorer to where your game is located. From there you can easily find the Doom2.wad
We just use Source ports to run that old game on a modern machine. Like GZDoom.
Every single Source Port you have seen that supports Doom, is just the layer made to run the old Doom, not made to replace the actual Doom itself. Hence the name "Source Port".
So yes, the recent "Doom 1&2" that Bethesda/Xbox is selling right now is just essentially an emulator specifically made to run that same file that we have been carrying around since 1993.
