Byzantines spoke Greek because they were Greeks. If you want to rewrite history, do it to another planet.

No update is needed, just copy and paste the Mod files into the directory in the description.
Aristoxenus Jun 17, 2018 @ 4:47pm
Is it updated?
ELoyros Jun 1, 2018 @ 11:59pm
rasputin666 Yes they are. After installing the mod with out changing the volume i could barely hear their voices. I also tested this by comparing them with the britons. I think you could increase the volume up to 10% or 15% more. But either way thank you for your work I appreciate it!

For some reason the female-Byz-fish-sound is located totally at random away from all the other Greek files and I couldn't find it, bar spending all day listening to thousands of sound-files individually.
I used Chiron's death grunt because there weren't enough sound files otherwise to replace the originals. Yeah it seems they got native Greeks for villagers and used Americans for all the NPCs.

But otherwise it works as intended no? So many users gave this mod downvotes because they didn't read description explaining that sound-mods have to be installed manually now.

^0|KLC| ^4E^7L^8oyros - Is it that low? I manually lowered it because AoM sounds are more than 5 times louder than AoE sounds and that fitted in much worse.

Well, at least someone finally attempted to tackle this issue! :steamhappy: A decent attempt, but still slightly faulty. Apart from the already pointed out issue of Italians also speaking Greek with this shared mod, villagers still use the Latin 'capto' when fishing. Also, monks use Chiron's dying grunt as one of their normal 'speech' sounds - the person who voiced Chiron in AOM was clearly an Anglophone and not a native Greek speaker.
But at least you did "something"! Even the official AOE2 Greek language patch STILL has our people speaking in Vulgar Latin, which is as much an anachronism for us as it is for mediaeval Italian states. While the Italians are portrayed as looking even more like East Romans than the so-called "Byzantines".... which is pretty ironic, eh? :steamfacepalm:

Volume is too low, like too low, like VERY LOW
이재명  [author] Apr 2, 2018 @ 6:19pm
Probably because they took the sounds from Age of Mythology as well. I don't like aoe3 though.
Python the Great Mar 29, 2018 @ 1:01am
The words and voices sound really simillar to the ones of the wars of liberty mod in aoe3
daniel14946 Mar 21, 2018 @ 8:18pm
Thank you for making this in any event! It's at least good to have the choice if nothing else.
daniel14946 Mar 21, 2018 @ 8:17pm
So the Italians and Byzantines both have to share the same sound files, regardless of if the language is Latin or Greek? That's a genuine pity. I wonder if some audio equivalent of IA can be made, although it would really only be just for one civ.
이재명  [author] Mar 19, 2018 @ 9:58pm
No, it is hardcoded. That's why I left a backup folder.
勞動神鷹 Mar 19, 2018 @ 9:52pm
Is that any possibility that we cas separate sounds file for Byzantines from Italians?
이재명  [author] Mar 18, 2018 @ 1:46am
Is that a question? You have to install the files manually because the latest updates disabled Mods that use WAV. files.
Arturogu96 Mar 18, 2018 @ 1:40am
UPDATE!!!
이재명  [author] Mar 16, 2018 @ 5:41am
Проверьте инструкции. Вам нужно скопировать файлы в папку.

steamapps\common\Age2HD\resources\_common\drs\sounds

Да, че-то не сработала мне. Гуд мод в любом случие, буду подписан все равно.
이재명  [author] Mar 14, 2018 @ 4:12pm
Да, не знаю почему нет.
Keless Mar 14, 2018 @ 6:14am
Alright, it works fine now. :) Well done and thank you!
Добрый Лякуша Mar 14, 2018 @ 4:53am
Should it work with Vanilla version of game?
이재명  [author] Mar 14, 2018 @ 3:57am
Fixed that, I copied my PC's 'Latin' folder that had actual Latin exercises my mistake.
Добрый Лякуша Mar 14, 2018 @ 1:48am
Great mod, this is something that's always kind of bugged me when playing Byz.
Keless Mar 13, 2018 @ 6:42am
I found the Latin (backup) folder, but there are only some pdf files inside. Did I miss something?
Sorry for the amount of questions :P
이재명  [author] Mar 13, 2018 @ 4:38am
Yes just overwrite when copypasting the Mod's Greek files over the Latin ones in the directory listed above or vice-versa.
Keless Mar 13, 2018 @ 1:33am
I see. So I just have to copy paste the latin dialogue files right?
이재명  [author] Mar 12, 2018 @ 3:59pm
I added a Latin backup folder if you want to reverse it.
Keless Mar 12, 2018 @ 12:51pm
By installing it and by doing the copy-paste thing, the latin dialogue is completely removed right?
Did you expect a name? Mar 11, 2018 @ 9:23pm
Byzantion?
이재명  [author] Mar 11, 2018 @ 9:09pm
That called themselves Ρωμαιοι ye smartarse.
Did you expect a name? Mar 10, 2018 @ 8:12pm
Lol at 'byzantium'. Should be 'byzantos' if it's greek. ;)
excaliber45 Mar 9, 2018 @ 12:26am
@Gabrielino77 Ah I see. Should write to Cysion & convince him to make this mod official for the Byzantines. Not like it'll upset anyone since it's not a balance change or anything.
King Gabe I Mar 8, 2018 @ 8:19am
excaliber45, that is because they both initially spoke latin, so when you change one of their languages, it changes both.
excaliber45 Mar 8, 2018 @ 12:21am
Now here's an interesting problem: when playing as the Italians, I get Greek-speaking Italians. Hmm... disabling does nothing.
Saint_Michaels_ Mar 7, 2018 @ 6:29pm
It's not working since the Steam Workshop no longer supports .WAV files since Rajas.
Hellercon Mar 5, 2018 @ 6:29pm
@Fenomeno, it was actually official. As the creator states, Heraclius made it official in the 6th century since nobody spoke Latin to begin with. Greek was the Lingua Franca of the Eastern Mediterranean since Alexander the Great. The Romans never bothered to change it since they also knew Greek. When the seat of the empire was transfered from Rome to Constantinople, Latin became the court language to keep a sense of political continuity. 300 years later it became obsolete as it didn't catch on with the people (especially the Greek core of the Empire) and there was never an attempt to do so.
excaliber45 Mar 3, 2018 @ 8:32pm
I finally got it to work by manually copying the files into the location as you said. It took a couple tries but it's fixed. Thank you :)
Harry Pioter Mar 2, 2018 @ 10:24pm
Well, It was correct. Greek for Byzantines was not official. But mod is nice.
