It definitely has shields. I just loaded up a creative save and built it myself. Maybe you have them turned off by accident? It happens to me occasionally because I have a full list of things I turn off when flying ships that are underpowered for warp drive.

i hope to see someone make a high detail version of the Yamato as this was one of the ships i looked for when i first got the game. sadly i am too busy with the Principality of Zeon Space Force to lend time to build an HD Yamato.
