Greetings! It's been a while, hasn't it? Thanks for your patience so far. :)

I am happy to announce that we have solved a large number of the CTD issues that have been haunting the mod since 1.5 - and things should be fairly stable for now. There's a new Tibet tree to replace the old one, and a lot of new art. Plus dozens of other tweaks and bug fixes from our contributors on GitHub.

The Road to 56 has been around for a long time, and as such it has accumulated a lot of deeper and more difficult to solve problems - most of which (thankfully) users are often not exposed to. However, it has become such an ongoing issue on our side that we've decided to completely reboot the mod from scratch. We will be recoding everything from the ground up. To put it mildly, this will be a huge undertaking and won't be finished for months.

From now on our primary efforts will be put into the reboot, which will eventually be released all at once as a megapatch. Don't worry though - there will be ample warning ahead of time so you can finish your games. Also, the live version of the mod will continue to be patched and have new things added to it and we will also keep up to date against whatever crazy things Paradox throws at us.

As always, I really appreciate all the support, feedback, and love / hate that you folks give us. If you have any questions, find one of us on the Discord or here on Steam!

Have a great day, and stay handsome.

Hello again! Here's the promised patch for May, during which some of our modders got a bit older and also got lost in a sandy resort while being generally inebriated. These things happen, but we all move on.

A limited version of The War at Sea mod by Axe99 & Co. is included, as well as a new tree for Honduras by Zurich899. Additionally there's a lot of new art, and the start of a tech overhaul for the whole game. Oh, and maybe some nuclear missiles.

April also saw a really nice increase in contributions on the git repository, and so a lot of bugs got taken care of as well as a whole bunch of tweaks. The patch notes below only contain some of them. We also removed a number of the less-glamorous trees from the mod. For now, please keep in mind that you might find some placeholder art in the tech trees, and that the new missiles might behave a bit oddly. These and many more issues will be taken care of in the June patch!

Update: Mar 17, 2018 @ 1:01pm

Hello! This update finally clears the error logs, including the last of the dreaded 450+ broken focus references that were in the mod. I'm exhausted, and so will be taking a break and then will work on WoD for a while. The patching schedule will go back to a 3-4 week cycle from now on, unless something terrible and awesome happens. New content will be in the next patch, as well as more fixes for the various issues that still exist.

Another very big item that was done recently is that Road to 56 is now on GitHub, and I'm running all development through there. Once I've figured everything out and feel secure with the system, I'll open up submissions to anyone that wants to make contributions both big and small. Road to 56 has always been a community mod, and this is a big step toward continuing that tradition. Plus, I can now see just how lazy all the other team members are and apply sarcastic comments accordingly.

Update: Mar 8, 2018 @ 8:51am

Hello! Greetings! It's so nice to see you here again, after all this time. It's been a while! How have you been?

Here in modland, there are some changes we have to talk about. The 1.5 / Waking The Penguin content from Paradox has come to pass, as foretold in the ancient forum posts. It changes quite a lot of the game, and in good ways. It also reaves an unholy swath through the unsuspecting masses of citizen uploads. It's the digital apocalypse, from which few mods will survive.

Using an arcane ritual that involved an unpronouncable language, my own life force, some duct tape, and a highly motivated gerbil - I was able to get 56 to survive.

This patch is primarily technical changes. Lots of bug fixes, tweaks, and then an innocent single line all the way at the bottom which actually constitutes of the majority of work. Basically, the focus here was to get 56 to run with 1.5 without utterly destroying itself Godzilla style.

We also have a new tree for Indonesia as a small bonus. Additionally, new AI scripts! It's experimental at this point, but I went ahead and applied it to all the warmaking focuses in the game. Expect to see it steadily improved and applied to more and more stuff. I also wrote in some new riot events, which tie into the decision system and stability mechanics. It was more of a demonstration of capabilities, but in time it will grow as well. Lastly, but not leastly, there's a lot of new art - and many tweaks / rebalances. Some of them may involve time travel.

Please keep in mind that this is not a content compatibility patch. In other words, the 1.5 / WTT stuff is very likely to conflict with 56 for a while in terms of events and similar. This will absolutely be patched in the coming days as reports come in.

Thanks again for your patience, care, and good vibrations. Just don't vibrate too hard, or else the resonant frequency will break your computer.
