Sistine Compatibility Update
The update to the Ninja Academy involves compatibility with the Sistine mod. The extra bonus will only apply when you have the Sistine mod installed. Without it, the Ninja Academy will operate on the default bonus.

VILLAGE OF SHINOBI CLANS - Tweak
  • Decreased the Combat Strength bonus for fighting on Woods/Rainforest from +5 to +3.

NINJA ACADEMY - Tweak
  • The Ninja Academy grants +33% Science to its city when the Sistine mod is enabled.

Attempted Balances and Repairs Update
HIDDEN LEAF VILLAGE - Configuration
  • Tweaked the artdef file of the Palace in an attempt to solve the problem of the Palace not showing up and instead showing a giant red exclamation mark in its place after reaching the Classical Era.
  • Removed references to Itachi Uchiha in the Hidden Leaf's code. (This is for my upcoming Akatsuki Secret Societies mod which I have already finalized in my draft.)

VILLAGE OF SHINOBI CLANS - Tweak
  • Nerfed the Combat bonus for battling on Woods and Rainforest back to +5 Combat Strength from +6.

HERO OF THE HIDDEN LEAF - Tweak
  • Nerfed Naruto's combat bonus for fighting in friendly territory from +12 to +10 Combat Strength.

NEVER GO BACK ON MY WORD - Text
  • Added a denounce modifier to reflect Hashirama's agenda when denouncing you for reasons related to its agenda.

  • Solved a neglected issue of outdated code from a year ago that was causing compatibility problems with particular mods that tweak recon unit promotions.

SHINOBI ADJUSTMENTS (IN WHAT IS HOPEFULLY THE (FOR REAL) FINAL MAJOR UPDATE)

- Several Shinobi adjustments

  • Adjusted Shinobi CS from 50 to 45 (Ranged strength from 40 to 35)
  • Shinobi now receive +1 Combat Strength for each promotion they have.
  • Shinobi now replace the Skirmisher instead of the Man-At-Arms.
- Naruto's CS ability reduced from +15 to +12, and now only applies when inside or adjacent to Hidden Leaf territory (Like with Russia's Cossack)

FINAL (hopefully) MAJOR UPDATE

- Tweaked Naruto's civ colors

- Tweaked the Shinobi's movement and combat strength, and removed several of its previous abilities. Also made it a Man-At-Arms replacement instead of a unique standalone unit like it was before. (Balance tweaks)

- Rewrote most of Naruto's leader ability.
(The reason I rewrote his ability.... there were two. The first being, I initially came up with a draft of a potential idea having Sasuke as a unique governor, but sadly that was never completed since I ran into a dead end of some sort, an idea block of sorts, so I didn't bother trying to add it. (Lemme know if you wanna see that tho) Which also leads us to the second idea.... I realized Naruto is easy to invade, which doesn't match up with canon material. His previous ability also felt really.... off to me for a long time, since the parts of Hero of the Hidden Leaf I removed was based on Naruto's help to the shinobi forces during the Fourth Great Ninja War.... with trying out that (unfortunately failed) idea of Sasuke as a unique governor. I rewrote Naruto's leader ability to really be based off what he did as Hokage, defending the Leaf from powerful enemies like Kara [DISCLAIMER: I don't watch Boruto tho], and helping out other villages like restoring the long-neglected Hidden Rain Village, and stopping a potential war from breaking out (Shikamaru Shinden, Land of Flowers invasion).

And yes I'm aware that +15 combat strength is super op, but thats kind of the point. Naruto and Sasuke are basically the strongest characters in their universe, so it makes sense.... I did make sure to make it "defensive OP" tho cause Naruto isn't known to be a warmonger... tho he easily could if he wanted to. That being said, if popular demand deems this part of his bonus to be too much, I will consider nerfing it in a future update.

- Removed start biases for rainforests, leaving start biases only for woods. (I play with JNR's Happy Appeal Districts mod on, and in one of my recent playtests as Naruto, I was seriously struggling to keep my cities happy... partially may have to do with the fact I spawned in a rainforest area, his mod really forces you to pay more attention to appeal. Also, it made me realize that even though rainforests are technically, well forests, it didn't make sense for the Hidden Leaf to be a jungle civ, I mean, it is the Hidden Leaf Village, not the Hidden Jungle Village)

- Tweaked Naruto's AI a bit in terms of wonder preferences and diplomatic choices in order to further match his intended behavioral agenda

- Several adjustments to configuration text in an attempt to shorten their explanation, while still making it clear.

- Added a culture, loyalty, and tourism bonus for the palace, and for building monuments and wonders but only for cities that were founded, not conquered. (I realized lately that compared to the other four Naruto civs, the Leaf's bonus is kinda lackluster, there's usually a pattern with the civilization ability of these ninja villages: Movement and strength bonuses related to the terrain (or element, in the case of the Hidden Cloud) their canon counterpart is based in, and a trait that defines the way these villages work. When I initially uploaded the mod back in October, I had the first part covered, but I did not give the Leaf a bonus related to the second part. Well, if you know about the Will of Fire, it's pretty integrated deep into the mentality of the people of the Hidden Leaf (though it's more of a moral code than a religion tbh, I did float the idea of making it an actual playable religion, but decided that would be stupid for this reason), with the people of each clan valuing the founding of the Leaf quite deeply, and as a result, also valuing their comradeship quite deeply. I had to find a perfect way to express it, so here was one of two ways I did so. Also, if I could mod in the Hokage Rock, I would make it a buildable wonder, but sadly that's still way beyond my modding capabilities ;-; but at the very least, the Leaf can now benefit from a "Will of Fire" bonus for building wonders!

Also worth noting btw, Hashirama Senju as an alternate leader to the Hidden Leaf is my next mod to release, and his bonus revolves around ridiculously speedy construction for all buildings from the first three eras for the game... another reason I was prompted to make this big new tweak to the Leaf's ability, and I think it will have great synergy with Hashirama's leader bonus, when his mod is out. Much greater synergy than even Naruto's leader ability, I'd say.

- Added to the Leaf Shinobi unit the extra combat strength for each adjacent shinobi unit (I like to call this the "nakama" combat bonus, since as I said earlier, due to integration of the Will of Fire, the ninja of the Hidden Leaf naturally place importance in valuing their comradeship. This is the second of the two ways I managed to implement "the Will of Fire" into this mod, so basically this makes them similar to Gran Colombia's Llaneros. (And with all this talk about the Will of Fire, if you're wondering why I didn't just name the civ ability "Will of Fire", it's because I've already given that name to Hashirama's agenda.)

Btw, I also gave them this unique ability because compared to the other four shinobi units, they lacked a unique ability to distinguish them from the others, and were pretty much the "vanilla shinobi", so I gave them something to stand out.

- Retweaked Naruto's leader bonus for more consistency (Ngl, but even after I made this mod, Naruto's leader ability always felt a little.... off to me, like, it was somehow messy, but at least it achieved its purpose, but the feeling never went away. (A negative review of this mod on Reddit also proved this point I was feeling about his ability a while back).... still, I think it's about time I attempted to make this bonus more consistent instead of attaching too many pointless alliance/diplomatic bonuses, so here's how the gist of playstyle with Naruto works:
Naruto earns diplo favor and envoys much faster than everyone else, enabling him to run away from diplomatic competition. He has a "generalist diplomatic combat bonus", which is getting +2 combat bonus for each slotted diplo card, a diplomatic version of Gorgo's ability, which can be upgraded into a bonus Naruto can share with his allies: bonuses for fighting off a common enemy together, and also shared visibility (Because in the case of Naruto, whose leader ability I'm doing my best to make more consistent, it makes less sense not to have visibility on your allies when Naruto is the type of person who can control half of the city-states in the world by the end of the game) And as usual, anyone who tries to make a big mess of the world gets pinned down by Naruto's leader ability, along with the usual Boruto-era "Mechanized Shinobi".

  • As a result, the +100% alliance points for Trade Routes with Naruto has been removed. (After thinking about it, I realized this bonus was rather pointless with what I intended Naruto's playstyle to be, so I removed it. Part of the effort to make the playstyle of Naruto's leader ability more consistent.... though I'm not completely deleting this bonus per say, in fact I'll just transfer it to Kakashi's leader bonus, besides this specific bonus might have far more synergy with the leader ability I've already set up for Kakashi, than with Naruto who's more incentivized to make friends and protect them, and talk no jutsu everyone into winning himself a diplomatic victory)
