Hotfix 7.2.3
  • The unique Cities of Wonders for Persepolis wasn't buildable in save games where the county of Shiraz did not contain any Great Works. This has been fixed, thanks to a report by Dies Irae.
  • Changed the wonder upgrade image for the Street Lamps of Cordoba to a more appropriate one.
  • This will most likely be the final update for Cities of Wonders. It’s a sad farewell, as some of us leave the COW of CK2 behind, for new horizons in COW2 of CK3.

Patch 7.1.1
  • Added an alternative requirement to the City of Wonders for Republics, to bypass the realm size trigger not working as intended. Now, Merchant Republics can build a City of Wonders as long as they are King-tier or higher even if they to do not meet the realm size requirement.

Update: May 14, 2020 @ 4:58am

Patch 7.1
  • Disabled the prohibition that the EU4 converter had which prevented both historical Great Works and historical Cities of Wonders from converting into EU4. The Wonders/Great Works must still be at max level for them to convert, which means that a City of Wonders must be at level 10 to be able to convert into a EU4 province modifier.
  • Fixed the localization issue that the Cities of Wonders had with the EU4 converter.
  • Readjusted some localizations to better match the style of the rest.

Patch 7.0 & Ancient Cities Update
    Patch 7.0
  • Fixed minor issue which enabled the player to upgrade Great Works into City of Wonders outside of the player's realm.
  • Fixed minor issue which enabled vassal players to upgrade Great Works into City of Wonders. Now you must be independent to use the upgrade decision.
  • Revised the requirements for building the generic "Pyramid" Wonder District, so that it better matches the vanilla requirements.
  • Altered the "COW:Semi-Historical COWs" game rule so that it won't add any Cities of Wonders if historical wonders have been turned off via the vanilla game rule for it.
  • Removed some old unused code that was commented out.
  • You can now build the historical Cities of Wonders from scratch in any of the associated historical provinces. (Alexandria, Antioch, Athens, Baghdad, Constantinople, Carthage, Delhi, Jerusalem, Persepolis, Roma and Syracuse). This means you can build the historical Cities of Wonders without being blocked by the single custom City of Wonders limit.
  • You can now optionally upgrade vanilla Great Works directly into an associated historical City of Wonders via a separate decision. Great for games that you have started without Cities of Wonders enabled.
  • Each level (1-10) of a City of Wonders will now add a 5% local reduction to the cost of upgrading and building Wonder Upgrades/Features/Districts locally. Up to a maximum of 50% cost reduction locally.
  • Additionally the max level (10) of a City of Wonders will add a 20% global reduction to building and upgrading Wonders/Great Works.

Patch 6.0
  • Added missing Build Cost modifier to the Great Harbor districts.
  • Added the Citadel of Antioch district to Antioch.
  • Now you can build the unique and historical Wonder districts in a custom/generic City of Wonders, as long it's located in any of the appropriate provinces. (Alexandria, Antioch, Athens, Baghdad, Constantinople, Jerusalem, and Roma)
  • The capital restriction for constructing Cities of Wonders has been removed.
It's no longer neccesary to build it in your capital, as you can now build it anywhere outside of your capital if you so desire. This is meant to represent the few cases in history where the capital was not the greatest city in the realm.

Still, keep in mind you can still only build one custom/generic City of Wonders, so choose the location of your projected city with care.

  • Improved the readability of some of the tooltips by adding custom ones.
  • Cleaned up some of the code by adding a few custom triggers.
