Important! This update should fix all servers which were crashing during load. If you're still having issues, please give me a heads up in this mod's Bug Reports discussion.

Players and server owners, please send your appreciation to Zen and the whole WC team; they put in quite a bit of extra time updating the DevKit to help correct this for everyone.

I would also like to thank this mod's Patreon's. They helped test the various patch attempts to fix this issue which greatly speed up the process of finding a working solution for everyone.

Important! Please be aware that this patch is only a partial fix that will only help some servers.

*If your server is only facing occasional crashes after running a while, this patch should alleviate your issues.

*If your server is crashing on server load, this patch will not help.
Know that WC is working on a true fix for the issue and hope to have it rolled out to the DevKit soon. They feel that will be the only true long term solution.
For those afflicted with crashes on server load, you have a few options, although none are ideal at this time:

  • You have the option to remove this mod temporarily. You will not lose any of your tames, but they will lose any of their RS Buffs (special cosmetics). Reload your server, without this mod and SaveWorld. You should then be able to add Rare Sightings back on without any further issues.
  • Hold tight until the DevKit is updated. Once it's been updated and the mod is recooked to include the latest changes, we're hopeful it will correct any current issues.

For those curious, the issue has been identified as changes made to the core-game Dodo and Oviraptor files. Specifically they each had their Begin Play nodes removed. This affected any mods using childs of those files which called the "Parent: Begin Play" nodes, causing them to crash on load. The long term solution is WC is putting those nodes back on the core files, then updating them to the DevKit.

The short term solution is this patch. I've removed the "Parent: Begin Play" nodes, so newly spawned wild RSDodos and RSOviraptors are no longer causing the crash. This should have also fixed currently existing wild RSDodos and RSOviraptors, which we are assuming as the cause of the on-server-load crashes, but it has not. We're moving forward with the assumption that updating the core files and DevKit is needed to fully fix things.

v1.09.00

  • New rare theme: Dappled.
    • Dappled rares have skin that slowly shifts coloration.
    • While their shifting coloration isn't powerful enough to provide better concealment, all Dappled rares share the common trait of being able to carry more: +20% Weight.
  • New rare theme: Iridescent.
    • Iridescent rares have unique skin which refracts color differently depending on the angle they are viewed from.
    • In addition to their unique appearance, Iridescent rares all share a sturdier constitution: +20% Health.
  • New mythic rare theme: Starlight.
    • Starlight rares have skin covered in bioluminescent cells allowing them to brightly flash. These strange beasts have the ability to help their owners find rare items.
    • Flashing brightly attracts attention, so Starlight rares are both swift and long-running: +20% Speed and Stamina.
    • Immediately after being tamed, Starlight rares provide their owners with the ability to find better items from loot drops. This ability lasts as long as they have their newly-tamed rare sparkle.
    • Starlight rares can randomly regain their rare sparkle; this can happen once to twice a real day. While they have their rare sparkle, they will once again provide their owners with the ability to find better loot from drops.
  • New server setting to remove the special Rare names from wild RSs. NoRareNames; disabled by default; set equal to True to enable. Effects wild RS names in all aspects of the mod, including broadcasts and when directly viewing wild Rares.
  • New server setting to allow some Rares to spawn as species from the Extinction map. AllowExExoticRares; disabled by default; set equal to True to enable.
  • Adjusted a few of the rare theme icons.

v1.08.01

Temporarily increased the spawn rate for spooky-themed RSs for the week of Halloween. Themes fitting for this spooky holiday include the fiery Phoenixkin, Shadows, and Horned dinos. All Rares also have an increased chance for Halloweenish colors: Black, Red, Orange and White.

  • Note that while increased, these rare themes will still be Rare. So no need to worry about crazy amounts of rares or anything like that.
  • Unlike other colored Rares, those with these Halloween colors won't have the colors listed in their names.
  • There will be an update soon after Halloween to return their spawn rates back to normal.

Also:
  • The phoenixkin theme has been augmented to be compatible with more dino species.
  • The shadow theme can now overlap with the horned theme, making for extra spooky dinos!

Added two new Mythic Rares: Galvanic and Glacial.

  • Galvanic Dinos
    • 'Q' to initiate Electric Burst. Temporarily stuns all nearby dinos and players. Very short range; 30 sec cooldown.
      • Does not affect same-team dinos and players.
      • Range is equal to twice the host dino's capsule size; minimum of 2 foundations.
      • Keybinding cannot be changed and will not be altered.
  • Glacial Dinos
    • 'Q' to initiate Ice Burst. Temporarily chills all nearby dinos and players. Very short range; 30 sec cooldown.
      • Functions as Web but also drastically drops their temperature.
      • Does not affect same-team dinos and players.
      • Range is equal to twice the host dino's capsule size; minimum of 2 foundations.
      • Keybinding cannot be changed and will not be altered.

  • New rare theme: Plated Dinos
    • Plated dinos have 20% damage resistance due to their sturdier builds.
  • New server settings:
    • NoBonusLevelsForWyverns - Only enable this setting if you don't want Rare Wyvern and Rare Rock Drake levels to scale higher than other rare dinos. (bool option, disabled by default)
    • RareAlphaMeleeDamageMultiplier - Allows you to change the melee damage multiplier of all Rare Alphas. Increase setting to make them more powerful. A setting of 1 would make them the same as normal vanilla dinos. (float, 3.0 by default)
    • RareAlphaReceiveDamageMultiplier - Allows you to change the resistance multiplier of all Rare Alphas. A setting of 1 would make as tough as normal vanilla dinos. The lower the setting, the less damage they take. (float, 0.0625 by default)

v1.06.00

  • New rare theme: Lantern Dinos
    • Light can be toggled on/off by pressing "Q" while riding them, or from their menu wheel.
    • Their light does not provide an aberration-style Charge; they are cosmetic only. Such an ability will not be added in the future.
  • New mythic theme: Druidic Dinos (aka Plant Elementals)
    • Provides a boost to nearby growing crops.
      • The distance of the boost is approx. 8 foundations.
      • Specifically, the boost is to the greenhouse multiplier which is increased to x6 over the vanilla x4. Note that it doesn't scale linearly; for example, in a full greenhouse they will increase the crop boost from 300% to 500%.
      • Note this is designed to work with vanilla and vanilla-like crop plots (S+ included). It might not effect non-standard crop plots from other mods; it could even reduce the effectiveness of some already-boosted crop plot mods (if they also work by adjusting the greenhouse multiplier).
      • Note that the boost works in all game modes, but the crop plots' displayed % will only be visibly altered in Local Play.
  • New admin console commands to assist with debugging
    • cheat ScriptCommand RS CountRSSingletons which will display how many of the rare event CCAs are currently active (should always be only 1).
    • cheat ScriptCommand RS CleanBroadcasts will delete any extra rare event CCAs you might have (For the few users that somehow are getting multiple event broadcasts each cycle. Note that I'm still adamant that if this was happening to you, you have other issues going on that have nothing to do with this mod.)
    • cheat ScriptCommand RS CheckSightingFrequency will let you know how long you have until the next rare event, your server's min and max RS timer settings, and if your event timer is active/inactive.
