as someone who has played almost 750 hours of fallout new vegas this video really shows of how much stuff you can do with the extra skill books and stuff

I pick up everything, I looted every single item in the game. In addition I take Cannibal Perk, mainly for the secret Perk Meat of Champions, but the Cannibal perk means you never worry about hunger.

No I do not take Educated. Comprehension is far more useful.

You don't absolutely have to get the intelligence implant right away, I maxed all my skills at level 46 and had all the skill books from Dead Money that I never even used. Losing some skill points won't make or break your game.

I pick up everything. Buy from merchants constantly. I actually barely sold any items through the entire game, most of the caps I gained were from playing Caravan. This is something like 600+ hours of playing, so I really spent time gathering loots. I can say every area in the game has been looted of everything, I may have missed a few small items here and there and will loot them too if I find them!

Voracious Reader Perk, sorry I said books I mean magazines. Good catch on that. Voracious Reader Perk along with picking up every damaged book I came across landed me over 1000+ of those +10 critical hit magazines (True Police Stories). Coupled with the fact you can break down coffee cups at the sink for wonderglue and these items can respawn in shops. You have limitless amounts theoretically. Or at least, you would need to spam them constantly to run out.
