"Raincatcher" Spy Hat

In 1 collection by Astute
"Observer" Spy Set SFM Assets
12 items
Description
A wide brimmed fedora for the Spy.

I made this based on user suggestions that my "Observer" Spy set needed a hat. It was made as a compliment to the "Wetworker" raincoat. It's fairly similar to many of the other fedora's in TF2, though I do like how it works with the raincoat.

Notes

-It was made using reference images of various fedoras that Humphrey Bogart wore in his movies. Basically, a "Film Noire" era fedora.

-Paint is already setup, just "Add Override Materials" and tweak the color to your liking. If that doesn't work, override $color2 and change it there.

-The alpha channel has a rough/course canvas texture, which gives the hat a noisy reflection when lit. It's mostly to emulate the subtle texture that most satin and canvas fedoras are made out of. You can turn this off by overriding $basemapalphaphongmask.

Sweet. A playable map of this style is just waiting to happen and would be really cool. You could try to get in touch with some of the more expert map makers out there and get some help from them because the Youtube tutorials aren't too helpful except for maybe UEAKCrash

I would love to make a poster based on what was seen here and I've been waiting for one to be released. I understand that hammer is pretty hectic and hard to get a grasp of.

Yes, absolutely. I have dreamt of making a playable TF2 map in the style, but I've never been able to pull it off. The pictures seen here are merely props, cobbled together to have the appearance of a city, but it's really just the black_void map. Translating these props to a playable map would be impossible at this time, for certain technical and skill reasons.

Still, if I ever get the hang of Hammer, and I have the time, I would like to take a crack at making a payload style map in a city like this.

Would you consider releasing a map based on the pictures seen here?

@TheCivilEngineer, In the Animation Set Editor on the left of your screen(the list of objects in your scene), left click and drag the Spy model overtop of the h_spy_fedora_wide model and release. An icon should appear next to h_spy_fedora_wide in the shape of a padlock. You have successfully "locked" the hat to the Spy's bone structure(it will autolock to the head).

Next, you select the h_spy_fedora_wide model, and under "Procedural" on the right hand portion of the Animation Set Editor, left click and drag "One" to the right. You will see the hat snap to the Spy's head. Be sure you are working in the Motion Editor(F5) when you do this. As long as the hat is locked to the Spy, it will move with the Spy when he is animated.

If you have any issues with this method, there are numerous tutorials online for attaching models in SFM.
