Description
Airborne AI introduces aircraft that patrol the skies and hunt players from above.

When an aircraft flies within 1 km of a player, a warning message is triggered — giving players a brief window to take cover. If the aircraft gets closer and has line of sight, the player is "spotted," and a squad of AI paratroopers is deployed. These AI will parachute to the ground, track to the player’s last known position, and begin a search.

It works like this:
  • Aircraft spawns and begins flying across the map
  • Players within 1 km are warned of the approaching aircraft
  • Players can choose to hide or risk being spotted
  • If spotted, AI paratroopers bail out and descend via parachute
  • Upon landing, AI move to the last known location of the player
  • Aircraft despawns after reaching the far edge of the map

Features
Airborne AI is highly configurable:
  • Adjustable delay between aircraft spawns
  • Configurable number of paratroopers and patrolling aircraft
  • Full AI customization: lootable status, loadouts, factions, movement speed, de-spawn range and behavior
  • Warning messages and optional icons
  • Force aircraft to overfly a random player
  • Expansion quest hook - activate aircraft spawns via quest

New features: *update 5-7-25
regenerate your config to use these. Read the updated instructions located in the "admin" folder of your server install
  • Safezone check. Does not use expansion safezones so you can have non-safezone no fly areas
  • Check for expansion territories. Player will not be targeted for overfly if they are inside an expansion territory
  • Option for minimum players for any aircraft to spawn

Additional features:
  • Compatible with any map
  • Aircraft can be heard from a long distance
  • AI may make mistakes — not always a perfect drop!
  • AI can fire weapons while parachuting
  • Players can avoid detection by hiding indoors, behind objects, or in thick trees
  • Any AI loadout can be used. This mod will automatically equip paratrooper AI with parachutes
  • After a drop, aircraft re-arm and are ready for another drop in 60 seconds
  • Adjustable AI behavior modes:
    • Land and hold position
    • Land, move to spotted location, and hold
    • Land, move to spotted location, and begin patrolling 8 random waypoints
    • Land, move to spotted area, and begin a indefinite patrol around the spotted area. Loops, never ends

Requirements

Installation
  • Install as a client-side mod (must be on both client and server)
  • Install the two required mods listed above
  • Launch the server once — this will generate a config file at: `profiles/AirborneAI/`
  • Refer to the mod folder for detailed explanations of all config options

No repacks, reuploads, or redistributions are allowed under any circumstances.

FAQ
  • Yes you need Expansion. AI and Missions addons at minimum. I recommend Bundle
  • Yes you need admirals parachute mod
  • If the aircraft isn't making any noise you don't have all the required mods installed
  • If your paratroopers are walking underwater - That is not this mod... Its the map you're using

Hello, this mod does nothing to touch any of that. You are welcome to post your script log at my discord but there is likely no chance it's connected. I have this running on 2 servers and not noticed any lag other than that which AI can create. This mod is very frugal with server resources.

Hello, see the "config explanation" thread above or look in the server install folder for the "admins" folder. There are comments that explain all options.

There is the territory option which prevents players from being targeted by an overfly while they are inside their expansion territory (base building).
There is also a "safeZonePositions" setting where you can enter one or more locations to define safezones where players will not be targeted by overfly. This is not the same as expansion safezones. You define your own. That is good because you can have no overfly zones that are not necessarily safezones per expansion. Read the explanation carefully as the second value in the coord is the radius of the zone.

future update might include adjustable aircraft spped and altitude

just to clarify, with 'added check for expansion territories' do you mean Expansion safe zones around traders? Expansion also uses the term 'territories' with base building so I'm not sure now. All in all, solid update that really adds new options on top of plugging the safe zone gaps (basically thru building overlapping large safe zones you can inversely create airdrop zones now). Loving this mod, have a suggestion: Expansion bundle has the airdrop. If you can distinguish the plane somehow from the airdrop planes but at a closer distance, imagine the effect if notifications are turned off for both. You will have to look and see if friend or foe. Right now though I think it is mostly speed how I can distinguish them (another thing to tweak perhaps! Rn I can be in and out of danger standing under trees for three seconds, slower adds to the event fear effect).

- added safezone check. Does not use expansion safezones so you can have non-safezone no fly areas
- added check for expansion territories. Player will not be targeted for overfly if they are inside an expansion territory
- added option for minimum players for any aircraft to spawn
- fixed issue with overfly path generation. Should not be able to find any dead spots now
- fixed issue if server did not have expansion missions. Now there will be no sound AND no script issue

mayb i overlooked the setting
is it possible to set limit of how many players til the ai will spawn?
i have a low pop server and dont wanna waste on 1 solo

I have now upgraded my loose collection of Expansion mods to Expansion bundle and this works extremely well. Very good mod!

i also noticed that they fell fast from plane lol, so i take thats in the parachute.json file? still a very good mod been enjoying it, found it funny when 1 of the ai fell to his death :-)
