Description
Inspired by the space sim game Freelancer (2003)
Trade Lanes
Dear passengers, please remain seated and buckled up while traveling at superluminal speeds!

TRADE LANES ARE MEANT TO BE USED LIKE IT'S PART OF THE ENVIRONMENT
ADMIN RIGHTS ARE REQUIRED TO SET IT UP


WARNING
POSSIBLE FREQUENT UPDATING THAT MAY BREAK THINGS OR MAKE THINGS WEIRD!
Things will change, it's being actively worked on, you might not like some changes.
Ships that have more then 1 controller (cockpit/seat/remote) need to have the Is Main ticked/checked!


WARNING 2
Heads up, a new system will be introduced that will DECIMATE any ships or stations within it's safe zone radius if you exceed some set amount of time. Might warn you beforehand, might not... will decide later. Also a new system will be introduced that will likewise decimate or disable (yet to decide) any blocks not deemed necessary for the operation of trade lanes. E.g. medical bays and survival kits, weapons, connectors and similar blocks like that that would allow cheesing the game with free power and free safe zone from a trade lane. :)


SETUP
Setup (requires you to be admin with copy/paste and ignore safe zone for setup):
• Find the block 'Trade Lane Computer'
• Place the block and decorate it with other blocks if you wish.
• Add at least one terminal panel or block that has terminal access.
• Add an antenna (Optional)
• Edit the Trade Lane Computer's Custom Data with following:
TLID:XX where 'XX' is some unique number
From:Home Location
To:Target Location

• Now copy the block and place it further away (recommend 70 or more kilometers away)
• Edit the copied block and just flip the text in 'From:' and 'To:'

E.g.
The Trade Lane Computer 1 Custom Data next to Earth should look like this:
TLID:01
From:Earth
To:Mars
The Trade Lane Computer 2 Custom Data next to Mars should look like this:
TLID:01
From:Mars
To:Earth

Approach a Trade Lane ring with green lights and disable dampeners to initiate auto-dock.
Safe Travels!


Custom Data Settings
• TLID:Id (use numbers like 01, 02, 03 etc...)
• From:A (Home Starting Point Name)
• To:B (Target Destination Name)
Optional
• Speed:100000 (Travel speed in I dunno anymore... m/s maybe?)
• RingSize:1 (It's a scale multiplier, so 0.5 is half size and 2 is double size!)
• SafeZoneRadius:500 (0 turns the safe zone off, otherwise it sets the sphere size in meters)
• RenderRings:false (makes the gates/rings invisible)

Removing any optional settings will set them back to default values.

Also, should be kinda obvious, but they are not meant for on planets and asteroids and are should be placed outside planet's gravity wells too! :)



GPS MARKERS
It has 2 GPS version, do not get confused. It has a local GPS marker and a global one.
The local GPS markers are the ones that show up when you get close to a gate to inform you of the heading.
The global GPS markers are hidden by default.
The lanes will automatically setup GPS for each lane's first entry point and it will be numbered/indexed by closest to furthest.
Should make finding the closest lane easier.
So when you out and about and need to find the nearest lane, you can show the GPS marker and head there. Because Keen still doesn't know how to incorporate a map for SE and because Keen didn't have the decency to actually show the distance in the GPS UI or give us some floaty text... Ok, heading into rant zone, nvm. -.-# 👍🤣👍


MOD COMPATIBILITY
Currently the mod is not really compatible with Real Solar Systems mod.
I am looking into it but I don't really think it would work. But if some grand idea pops up, I'll let you know.


CONTRIBUTORS WELCOME
If you're a coder as well and would like to join in on this project, I'd welcome help. Primarily in the multiplayer aspect.
As for any interested modelers, if you want to replace my models with your custom models, contact me and I will release a core version of this mod that doesn't supply any models with it, you can then supply models and put my mod as dependency.


LATEST UPDATES
UPDATE 8
IMPORTANT - Some major changes
• Trade Lane Computer block should now be properly inaccessible to non-admin players via unavailable component.
• The Trade Lane Computer is now invisible and has physics disabled unless you have 'Enable creative mode tools' ticked. In creative mode it's always visible tho. This is only for survival mode.
Because of this change, the Trade Lane Computer has it's mount points now disabled and won't allow any block placements. It has now access to the terminal on the trade lane computer itself.
• Safe Zone is now off by default as well and needs SafeZoneRadius in Custom Data to enable it. Safe Zone was used to keep the trade lane computer safe from damage. Since now the trade lane computer won't have physics enabled and won't be visible, safe zone isn't essential and is now an optional feature.
• To make easier to interaction for admins with the trade lanes, the trade lane grids are now automatically getting their name set to the trade lane ID and from/to. Also, the safe zone, if enabled, are being named properly now for easier safe zone customization.


UPDATE 9
• Fixed a bug when Safe Zone setting is removed from the custom data, it won't actually remove it, you had to put it to 0 first to depsawn it and then remove the setting.
• Misc code optimization regarding safe zone and gate scale settings update.


UPDATE 10
• Added some changes to the docking request check in hopes to allow grids that were hanging in Stage 1 docking sequence to continue the docking process.
• Grid dock checkup should now permit remote or AI controlled ships to dock.
• At a request, added a new setting to make the rings invisible. Check Custom Data Settings


UPDATE 10 - HOTFIX
Set the rings to be invisible by default, whoops. FIXED NOW xD

UPDATE 11
• Docking has been refined and hanging on docking stage 1 should now be eliminated even for large vessels.
• The text info has been a bit refined to not be as jerky anymore.

Very nice mod idea. But it's a shame about the computer. Hope it can be repaired quickly. And maybe later on we can hope for a kind of jumpgate mod. So that we're not forced to build a jumpdrive or the FSD mod.

Is there any future iteration of this mod working in Torch servers? It is really really good and I heavily enjoy it, but it would be nice to be able to be used on a server :D

@Billy super glad you like it. Don't need any cash, the thought is more then enough. Besides, I'm not the best coder and it doesn't even work for MP sadly. If you really want to support me instead, perhaps give my song a try, just started releasing. Nesha - Hearts of Glass on most major platforms. I honestly have never commented on a mod for any game before, but for this I just had too. This is the most amazing mod for a game i've ever seen. I've been having so much fun with it thes past few days. Been able to live out my cowboy bebop fantasy! Do you have a patreon or anything? I'd love to send you a few ££ in appreciation.
