Introduction
Fishing in Monster Hunter Wilds is a fun activity that not only adds variety to the gameplay but also provides valuable resources for hunters. In this guide, we will cover everything about fishing, the main mechanics, quests, tips and tricks for successful fishing.
Unlocking Fishing
The fishing rod becomes available after completing the first chapter of the game.

The main tutorial for fishing occurs in Chapter 1-5 at the base camp of the Scarlet Forest from the NPC Kanya
Fishing Basics
1) Selecting a Location: Find bodies of water such as rivers, lakes, or ponds where fish live.

2) Using a Fishing Rod: Select a fishing rod from the item menu and walk to the edge of the water.

3) Casting a Line: Press the corresponding button to cast the line into the water.

4) Waiting for a Bite: Wait for the fish to bite. This will usually be accompanied by splashes and a change in the interface on the screen.

5) Hooking and Landing: Follow the on-screen prompts to hook the fish and pull it out of the water.
Types of baits
1) Wooden Minnow
A common wooden bait in the shape of a small fish
Suitable for any fish

2) Gold Bug
A bait in the shape of a shiny bug
Favored by goldfish and other beautiful aquatic creatures

3) Emerald Bait
A bait made from ore
Favored by useful fish, such as sushi fish

4) Composite Bait
A bait similar to a cephalos
Favored by large and fast fish, such as the insatiable tuna

5) Broom Bait
A bait similar to a starfish
Favored by cave and murky water dwellers, such as the gajau

6) Tentacle Bait
A bait made from thorn grass
Favored by aquatic creatures that have has tentacles or tendrils

New types of bait will be opened as you complete the quest chain from NPC Kanya

All fishing quests are taken only from NPC Kanya in the Crimson Forest in the base camp and the quests open as you progress through the story


1) Fishing: Life in Miniature

Objective: Catch any fish
Location: Near Kanya
Requirements: None
Bait: Wooden Minnow
Luring Technique: Pull it towards you every 3 seconds (S)
Catching Technique: Not needed
Note: None

2) In Search of Goldfish

Objective: Catch a goldfish
Location: Windward Plains, Area 14: Aquifer
Requirements: None
Bait: Golden Bug
Luring Technique: Pull it towards you every 3 seconds (S)
Catching Technique: Not needed
Note: The fish has a whisker and it is golden

3) In Pursuit of Taste

Objective: Catch a Roe Onion
Location: Windward Plains, Area 13, Oasis
Conditions: Abundance
Bait: Emerald Bait
Luring Technique: Pull (S) once every 3 seconds
Catching Technique: Not needed
Note: The fish is long and smooth

4) An Unforgettable Catch

Objective: Catch a Goliath
Location: Crimson Forest, Area 17, Great Lake
Conditions: Abundance
Bait: Compound Bait
Luring Technique: Slowly pull (press W+S alternately)
Catching Technique: Fish swims to the left = hold A, swims to the right = hold D, stopped = press alternately W+S for 2 seconds, fish jumps = press LMB, repeat cycle in a circle until fish is caught
Note: fish have 4-5 spikes sticking out from under the water

5) Dazzling Glitter

Objective: catch a large escanite
Location: Crimson Forest, Area 17, Great Lake
Conditions: Abundance, night
Bait: Tentacle Bait
Luring technique: pull towards yourself (S) once every 3 seconds
Catching technique: not needed
Note: looks like a glowing shell

Additionally, for the achievement, you can catch a goliath squid in the same place (Crimson Forest, Area 17, Great Lake)

Conditions: Abundance, night
Bait: Tentacle Bait
Technique luring: slowly pull towards yourself (pressing alternately W+S)
Catching technique: fish swims to the left = hold A, swims to the right = hold D, stopped = press alternately W+S for 2 seconds, repeat the cycle in a circle until the fish is caught
