Adoptive Relationships

Description

I absolutely love having random children join my colony, I love taking them in and roleplay that one or two pawns adopt the child as it moves into their home and lives with them and their family. Or maybe the entire colony just adopts the child as a tribe. But I hate that that relationship never becomes official. They're just orphans living in your colony. And I hate it even more that sometimes, that means they'll grow up and romance their adoptive parents or siblings. Eww.

I couldn't find any mods that added an adoption mechanic or anything like it, so I decided to do the next best thing and added adoptive relationships.

If you're looking to exclude pawns from romancing each other but don't want them to adopt each other, check out my other mod Platonic Relationships.

These relationships do not happen naturally, you will have to add them manually at the beginning of the game using Prepare Carefully and/or mid-game using Character Editor. Other mods that alter the relationships between pawns should work, too, as this only adds the relationships, nothing else.

A big thank you very not to the RimWorld community for introducing me to the phenomenon 'Sweet Baby Boy'. I will never forgive you.

💀 Will you add rituals / interactions / autonomous events to adopt outside of Character Editor/Prepare Carefully?

No. I don't have the bandwidth for more complicated code mods at this time. Maybe later.

💀 Will you make an alternative mod where adoptive family members can have sexual relationships?

No, you sick weirdos, stop asking.

💀 I can only see male/female relationships. What's up with that?

If you're using Character Editor, there is a ♂ or ♀ icon where you select the relationships you want to add.
It only shows you the relationships of that gender. Click the icon to switch.

10/10 mod. the only thing I could think of changing is having an option somewhere (idk where exactly tho) to set it without having to open some other editor mod. i get that might be harder to code tho lol

for a mafioso roleplay or for bigger families colony would be cool to have a Godfather/Godmother, so a character that is a close friend with a second character can set his best pal as the grandfather of his son/dauther

Happy to hear those wholesome stories! :-) Thank you for adopting the orphans!

@maladicta

Yes, actually! That would be a great addition!

Would you possibly consider having adopted aunt/uncle and niece/nephew?

Thank you for making this mod! Now the 8 year old girl the two parents in my colony unofficially adopted can be officially adopted- when they're all ready, of course.

Sought out this mod while watching the husband and new father of a newborn teaching the new girl at the very desk he built to use with his birth daughter one day. Was too sweet, wanted to officialise it.

@sheeps

Since I'm only adding relationships, that's something you should bring up with the Family Tree devs.

found an incompatibility with the family tree mod - adding an adoptive relationship will cause the tab to break and become unopenable

@slurpme

Yep, I had the same experience!

Sadly, it's not something I can fix. My mod is set up to be platonic, it's their mod that has a thing that overrides platonic relationships. Nothing I can do but advise to either not use that mod, or check their settings to see if they have a toggle.

That question has been answered in the description.
