Elco PT Boat (Patrol Torpedo)

Description
The Elco PT boat (short for patrol torpedo boat), was one of multiple types of PT-boats, deployed by the United Staates Navy in World War 2 since 1941.
PT boats were small, fast, and inexpensive to build, valued for their maneuverability and speed but hampered at the beginning of the war by ineffective torpedoes, limited armament, and comparatively fragile construction.

This blueprint is an adaption of the Elco PT boat, made for the Water Mod 3.0 by Jakaria. You must have this mod and a compatible planet in your savegame or server to actually use the boat.

However: This is not a 1:1 replica.

I did my best to capture the spirit of the famous Torpedo Boat. However, since the available blocks and hitboxes in Space Engineers are not compatible with real-life dimensions and scaling, I had to incorporate multiple workarounds to make this build compatible with vanilla blocks.
The final blueprint is neither true in dimensions, displacement, weight or speed to the real thing. However, it comes with a ton of armament, fuel production, a somewhat useable interior and working torpedos (kinda).

Some of these workarounds and features include:
  • the boat is about 3 meters longer than the original
  • the control cabin is moved forward to allow the Engineer model to fit through, resulting in a noticeably shorter nose
  • the interior layout is not up to scale
  • the armament is a mix of recreations from photos of real torpedo boats, SE-limitations and my own list of requirements
  • Torpedos are controlled via script. They deploy properly into the water but will still jump out like a dolphin on their final approach, in order to hit the target mid-center
  • the stern AA gun is inspired by the "Thunderbolt"-turret, which was installed on PT-160
  • the bow Artillery cannon was not designed after a real life model. I just liked the look
  • I found multiple paint jobs for this model, but instead of giving it the typical olive drab, I settled for a simple bluish-grey, which I took from a Black Lagoon colour reference sheet

This item partially survival-ready It is fully conveyor-linked, thruster-damage compatible and uses no mod-blocks. The subgrid-turrets and torpedos are optional. However, I went a bit over board with the feature list and the weapons, packed on this rather small platform. The turrets have limited angles and the custom turret controllers struggle hard with these restrictions or sometimes shot their own hull. Recommend you swap all subgrid weapons for a smoother survival experience. Assault- and Autocannon-turrets gave the best results for me.

Author's note
Me and the boys are playing Ares at War (Check it out, it's great!).
I needed a small and fast vessel to scout rivers and coastlines, while being able to evade air-strikes. Since I was a fan of the old WW2 Torpedo boats, I started my research and of course things escalated.
This thing is neither light, nor cheap, but it’s still a lot of fun to play with.
Ares at War is the only scenario where I have used and tested this boat, so your experience my vary.
