Hot Potato

Description
Difficulty: Easy

Since you like playing games so much, here's an interesting ludology fact. Did you know that small humans used to play a game called Hot Potato? To play, you take a potato, superheat it, and throw it at someone. Then they throw it at someone else and that person throws it at you. If you drop the potato, or hold it for too long, then you lose and all the other players laugh at your failure. Sounds like fun. Makes you think, though... A game in which an unwanted, unloved, unwashed potato is cruelly tossed around because nobody wants anything to do with it. Reminds me of someone I know. It also reminds me of you.

Just a nice chill map set in the Reconstructing portion of Portal 2. This was good fun to create, and I'm glad to have finished it so quickly.

If you liked this, you might want to check out the other Portal projects I'm working on: the huge mod Desolation[emberspark.games] and my Doctor Who crossover Portal Who: Science of the TARDIS, which we're still working hard to complete, despite delays.

Also, check out this Timelapse of the making of this map!

Finally played this! I love how the decorations don't distract from the elements needed to solve. And the hidden potato area was superb.

Because the theme of Potatoes reminds me so much of my TUBER series , I ask again if you would check it out. If you like the series enough, I would make a proposition to collaborate because I have some ideas on how to hammerize and improve my series. Portal TUBER "Remastered", if you will. I have a whole play-list of let's players which gives great insight into trouble spots and exploits. Plus my beemod BTS areas could use some serious hammer revamps. Just a pipe-dream though, I know you have your hands full!

Anyway, great potato map--and that means...something...coming from a self-proclaimed tuber expert! :p2cube:

Thanks for the comment - yeah, that's a known exploit - neither Demon nor I thought of it when the puzzle was first designed (since moves like this are obviously 'cheating' in both our books), and by the time someone pointed it out to us the map was basically finished and I couldn't be bothered to fix it. You can actually do it even without the cube if you just jump and place the lightbridge. I would still recommend playing the full puzzle without moves like this, because it is a fun one - not to mention there are fun things to see in the rest of the map itself!

I seemed to have skipped some things.

Simple but really nice!

It’s definitely not compiled on default or fast settings - if the issue is that it’s too dark, obviously it could be any number of things on your end but one thing that I can suggest is setting mat_tonemapping_occlusion_use_stencil to 1, since I’ve seen that sometimes cause people’s games to be very dark. If it’s not that though, I have to assume it’s just something like your monitor brightness, because as I say, you’re the only person I’ve seen to have this issue

Fast-compile, I forgot the lingo for a second, this is the default compile mode for Hammer, in such compile the lighting is not computed for proper published product, that's what I feel since I need to turn the brightness all the way up just to feel my way through.

Half-compiled lighting? I've got no idea what could be going on there, unless you played a previous map that set mat_fullbright 1 or something. Do you have a screenshot or anything? You're the only person who's mentioned any issues with the lighting.

Nice casual game on lightbridge shuffling but there is issue with lighting, half-compiled Hammer? I thought it was BEE but that was me. Let's just say I look forward to add a properly lit up respin of this map to my Favourite, but... not this one.
