Better Bites

Description
Every time a zombie lands a hit on you, the game decides whether it is a scratch, laceration or bite.

This mod overrides the game in how this decision is made.

PZ's default bite mechanics essentially boil down to:
- Have bite-protecting clothes
- Don't get attacked from behind

It's ... fine. Really! But there's not a lot of dimension for generating drama, imho.

With this mod, if you're healthy and in good spirits, the chance of getting bitten is practically zero. Go raiding!

However, as your injuries and negative moodles stack up, so does your bite chance.

If you get bitten with this mod, you only have yourself to blame!

Bite Chance
Better Bites calculates its own bite chance using a number of factors:
  • Base bite chance (default: 1%)
  • Increased chance per scratch, laceration, deep wound, burn, etc.
  • Increased chance based on level of thirst, hunger, sadness, etc.

Injury Selection
Once the game decides you've been hit, Better Bites will roll against your current bite chance.

If Better Bites decides you got bit, you will. If it decides you didn't, you wont.

Deep Wounds:
If the game would apply a bite, but Better Bites disagrees, it will downgrade the injury to an infected deep-wound. Life threatening, but not fatal.

Protection HUD

The "Protection" tab in the status window has been updated with a "Chance" column.

This shows how likely you are to dodge a bite. The values in this column will continuously change as your overall health changes.

Debug Window

By running the game with the "-debug" flag, you can view the internal contributions to bite chance by all your current conditions. Just click the "Better Bites" button in the Debug Menu.

Configuration
The contributions to bite chance for each condition can be configured in the game's options menu.

I want to report that i seem to have the same issues as everyone else, i ended up with bites even tho the original wound was simply a "deep wound" not only that but the health viewer also claimed that the injury was immediately infected.

Same bug as everyone else. Deep wounds are being replaced by bites after being bandaged.

This mod is either very misleading or very broken. I've done countless tests with only this mod active, nothing changed. Every time, without fail, a zombie would attack me 1-3 times, no negative moodles and 1% chance for every condition, and yet a bite would always show up exactly the same way as it does in vanilla. Hell, I made the chances 100% and 0% in one case, no difference, still random. (in the case of the 0% tests I got a bite on the very first attack, lol)

So what's the deal with this mod? Does it work at all? Am I the only one with this problem? Everything is the same as the normal game, with the exception of bites now showing up as infected deep wounds for some reason. What's happening?

The issue other people are mentioning below just seems to be the default currently. On testing, I see deep wound pop up and I bandage it. When I take off the bandage, it is now a bite. I also tested getting deep wound, bandaging and then never removing the bandage. Game is treating it like you're bitten, and you turn anyhow. I have no first-aid affecting mods.

très important d'avoir des BITES de qualité. :)

Same here. Deep wound then later turns into a bite.

i dunno what the deep wound bite bandage problem may be, the only other mod i have that affects first aid is braven's first aid overhaul @Dustin
