Description
James's Korea Flavor Pack
Historical characters & events for Joseon & the Korean Empire

Currently compatible with Vic3 1.9

==========

Overview
James's Korea Flavor Pack ((J)KFP) is a mod that aims to add historically-inspired flavor to Korea. It includes dozens of historical characters serving as rulers, commanders, IG leaders, and agitators, complete with DNA. It also includes a host of flags from my old Expanded Flags: Korea mod, dynamic country names and colors, and unique party & interest group names.

KFP comes with detailed journal entries and event chains driving historical content throughout the majority of a Korea campaign. Face the challenge of reining in a Korean administration on fire at the tail end of the Sedo Politics period, appease or crush the Imo Mutiny and Donghak Peasant Rebellion, and modernize the nation with the Gwangmu Reforms agenda. The decisions you make to navigate one of Korea's most tumultuous historical periods will determine whether the fledgling kingdom remains a small, far-flung dot on a map or whether they achieve their wildest dreams and become a Great Power in Asia, rivaling that of China and Japan.

I am not a historian or native Korean. I am an American-born Korean-American who has a casual interest in Korean history. I do not have very authoritative sources nor do I have the motivation or means to track such things down. The content in this mod is meant to be historically-inspired, but not a 100% historically-accurate depiction of the events and characters in Korea's history, similar to vanilla Victoria 3 content.

Mod Compatibility
Users of Timber to Steel should use this compatibility patch for improved interoperability.

-----

KFP defines all its content in its own files, so it should be compatible with most mods.

However, any mod doing any of the following things may cause conflicts:
  • Changing the Korean states in terms of their shapes and internal names
  • Changing the provinces in Korean states
  • Removing the vanilla interest groups
  • Adding or removing Korean flags
  • Changing the starting ruler and/or heir of Korea
  • Changing the vanilla logic for the on_heir_born on action

Any mod that does any of the above may require a compatibility patch for both to function correctly.

-----

Additionally, any mod that does any of the following will conflict with KFP, but will not cause KFP to error:
  • Changing Japanese flags or dynamic country names

A compatibility patch may be required for these mods to work in harmony with KFP, but any mod that overwrites KFP in these areas may do so without issues.

Loading Order
The positioning of KFP with respect to other mods should not matter, except in the case of certain compatibility patches.
Follow any instructions provided by compatibility patch mods.

If you are having issues with other, unrelated mods, place KFP lower (towards the bottom) in your playset.

DLC Requirements
This mod does not rely on any DLC features, so you should not need any DLCs.

Certain content from the Sphere of Influence DLC has been overwritten or tweaked to integrate with the mod's features.
It is still possible to earn the Hermit Kingdom achievement with KFP enabled!

Korea's Standard of Living is extremely low!?
Look at the Sedo Politics journal before you come whining, please, thanks

If you're a concerned onlooker: the AI is also capable of handling it themselves if you give them like 50 years and a couple of civil wars to do it

I hope the reform is less difficult. Even in 1930, the game ends in the Gwangmu Reform

Before that, I ate Manchuria and conquered Japan. I hope the reform will be completed sooner

Ah… it’s finally been updated. I should let my friends who’ve been waiting know. At last, it’s time to reinstall Victoria 3. Thank you so much to the developers. The long wait makes this moment even sweeter.

아.. 드디어 업데이트 되었다.. 기다린 친구들한테 알려줘야겠네요. 드디어 빅토리아3를 다시 깔때가 되었네요. 제작자님 감사합니다. 너무 오래 기다려서 더 기쁘네요.

The Dreams of Independence journal used to force a lobby opportunity to happen with a relevant Great Power to facilitate finishing the journal.

In 1.9, the impact of lobby opportunities was greatly reduced, so it was impossible for, as an example, Joseon to sign a defensive pact treaty with Russia because the smaller bonus from the lobby opportunity wasn't enough to overcome the maluses Joseon had due to being an unattractive ally for Russia.

This has been replaced by a new event that gives you the option to create a new treaty with a Great Power where they support your independence in exchange for one of a few different concessions (money, power bloc embassy, or investment rights).

Other than that, there are no new events. It was primarily an update to make the mod work with 1.9 and a lot of smaller tweaks.

Ok everything's sorted out now - update within the next hour or two for reals

I ran into some mistranslations. More specifically, there's a few words that were accidentally untranslated since they appear embedded within some inline localization code.

If anyone Hangul-literate wants to fix them, here's a filter for the offending strings:

Update should be out within the next hour or two, hopefully!

Currently doing technical checks for the latest Korean translations (big thanks to dedeper and Islamic for their work for this patch) to make sure no localization code has errors.

Update will be out some time this week, I think

Work has been slow while I wrestle with my bad procrastination habits, but at this point I just need to wait on some final localization updates. I want to slip in a handful of extra tweaks that I've been meaning to make, too, to try to make up for the long delay.
