OvN Lost Factions: Fimir

Description

This mod is part of the OvN Lost Factions mod series which adds new and interesting races to the game and requires Mixu's Unlocker to work. These races are available to play in the Immortal Empires campaign and custom battles.

List of Fimir Factions
  • Major Playable Factions
    • Tendrils of Doom - Led by Kroll starting at Monument of the Moon, Lustria
    • Rancor Hold - Led by Skattach starting at Wreckers Point, Wastelands, Old World
  • Minor Factions
    • Marsh Hornets - Floating Village, Badlands
    • Mist Dragons - Baleful Hills, Cathay

What's Included
  • Complete New Race 'Fimir' - Like the Wood Elves, Chaos Daemons or the Empire, Fimir is its own distinct race. In general a new race will have it's own unit roster, legendary lords, mechanics, diplomatic relations, technology tree, magic lore, spells and everything else you might expect from a distinct race.
  • Full Custom Roster - The Fimir race has a fully custom roster with access to some vanilla units, the custom units all draw from the tabletop and lore. This not only includes units, but fully custom heroes, lords and legendary lords, all with unique visuals and using custom made models, assets and animations.
  • Two Playable Custom Factions - There are two unique faction from the Fimir race to play as 'Tendrils of Doom' and 'Rancor Hold', there are additionally a number of extra custom battle factions to play as.
  • Two Minor Factions - Additionally there are two minor factions, to fully feel the presence of this race on the campaign map, these being the Marsh Hornets and Mist Dragons located in the Darklands and Cathay respectively.
  • Custom Mechanics
    • Godhood Ascension - The 'Tendrils of Doom' faction has a unique faction mechanic where in Krolls pursuit of godhood they must conquer and erect mighty temples in their name. While the temples themselves offer great boons, collectively the more you build the higher Kroll ascends which bestows great power.
    • Gifts of Chaos - 'Rancor Hold' have access to the Gifts of Chaos mechanic which has been revamped to fit these cyclopean reptiles.
    • Death Quest - Available to all Fimir factions including minor ones, anytime a Fimir faction loses a settlement, lord or suffer a defeat with heavy losses in battle they gain a Death Quest unit. Additionally if any of the Fimir factions are destroyed the remnants seek out new clans with all the surviving Fimir factions gaining access to a limited number of Death Quest units.

F.A.Q. & Compatibility
Mod Won't Start/Missing Updates
There is a chance after the mod gets updated that steam will fail to download the update, possibly corrupting your version of the mod. If your game crashes on game start, you are missing something from a recent update or have some other issues try this;
1) Restart Steam - This can kick start the process of checking for mod updates
2) Unsubscribe and resubscribe to all the required mods - To properly unsub, unsub from the mod, start the game launcher, quit and resub. This will give you a fresh install of the mod and often fixes problems for people.
3) Use PropJoes WH3 Mod Manager

Is this mod lore accurate?
With many of these 'Lost Factions', there's little lore to go by, and what there is, is often outdated or extremely vague. The Fimir are an interesting case since they have gone through many rewrites, most of our lore is based on three sources: White Dwarf #102, Monstruous Arcanum and issue #25 of the WFRP fanzine Warpstone, which contains in its entirety 'Fimir: Ruinous Inheritance', an extensive WFRP fan sourcebook on FImir society, culture, religion and behaviour. Penned by Robin Low of WFRP fame, 'Ruinous Inheritance' was going to be an actual, officially licensed sourcebook until GW decided not to publish it for undisclosed reasons. Eventually Robin, with the aid of the people at Warpstone, was able to finish it and publish it as part of their fanzine. A good chunk of the lore in our mod is based on that 'fan' sourcebook, which is likely the closest we will ever get to a full, integral description of the Fimir other than vague lore snippets and grossly outdated lore.

Hi, you're doing a great job, but you could update these factions, Albion, Fimir, Araby, update campaign mechanics or add new ones or two new units, playing with these factions feels very empty.

@Datboi
Can you provide more details. Do you have the mod configuration installed as well, you need it to activate it in game and activate mods? Are you sure they downloaded. Sometimes mods will refuse to install though stated they did. In that case, you may need to force a reinstall of all game files.

Anybody know how to get this mod to work? Installed his mod, got Mixer. But this faction doesn't appear nor any of the lost factions mods. Anybody know what im doing wrong? Tried disabling all mods except this one and Mixer and it still didn't appear

Hey! This mod kind-of sorta works in mutliplayer campaigns, but not really. You can play Fimir and I did, but unfortunately you will be stripped of all your faction bonuses and your legendary lord that is replaced by a generic norsca one. The armies will be reduced to the lord with a single unit of Fimir and you don't start with an owned settlement. Fortunately, both faction starts can deal with that through instant recruitment. It's hella tough, but you can make it work and have generic Fimir lords lead your armies and you can turn the empire into a swamp with your friends.

Also, I think those Apprentices and caster character should get barrier. This faction is so squishy and it is difficult to set up reliable and stable regions of power. The apprentices cannot match enemy range nor rate of power, so getting some semblacne of barrier, like 500 health and for the heroes 1000, would be enough to help them out.

Can the apprentices not have arching fire in some form? They are the equivalent of handgunners, and it's really difficult to reliably use them.

Sorry if it's been suggested before, but might Troll Hags (and River Trolls) fit the faction?

Is Kroll just meant to be completely unable to get through gates or is this just a huge oversight by the creators? lmao

Weird thing. I loaded up the Rancor Hold faction, and it showed every faction in the diplomacy window. The map fog was still there. I checked the Tendrils of Doom as well, same thing. Is this a feature of the race or just a bug?

I recall the Fen Beasts having "Horrible Regeneration" which revived dead entities, ass opposed to standard regeneration. Was that an SFO thing or was it downgraded here as an unannounced change?
