I remember one haven defense mission vs Pandorans: night mission, 5 or so stealthed Sniper Rifle Tritons spread across the map with melee Arthrons in front. That was hell. That was Vanilla, maybe 2-3 years ago when there where way more enemies than now.
Fun fact: on Etermes one of the reinforcements spawn with 4, fully useable AP. Now imagine that this one is a Sniper who spawned in a previously cleared area. You have to take this possibility into account.
Have you ever played the mission The Real Virus (Synedrion Terraformer’s mission to be allied)? There you indeed spawn in the open without cover nearby and you are facing a horde of enemies including Snipers and Spider Drones. That’s Vanilla.
This is supposed to be a hardcore mod for those who like extra challenge. If it's too difficult - simply play vanilla.
I'm playing on Hero and I don't find human enemies to be overpowered, a few good grenades are usually enough to deal w/ anyone. Yes, operatives get picked off by snipers from the other side of the map. That's what snipers do. I don't remember a situation where I didn't have at least one decent cover option at the start of the mission, but maybe that's because I have a vehicle in almost every squad. Don't just rush in, look for defensible positions to hold out the enemy on, and bring lots of grenades on every mission.
Also, suffering losses (A team included) is part of the game, I don't understand why there should be an invincible squad of marvel superheroes in sci-fi horror setting. Then again, you better off just playing vanilla.
“Normal“ difficulty is a Vanilla naming. TFTV has: Story Mode, Rookie, Veteran, Hero, Legend, Etermes. Do you mean Veteran?
IMHO staying ahead of the enemy’s progress is name of the game of PP and thus TFTV.
May I ask what is your date for trying Second Initiation? This is by far the most difficult 2nd faction mission. This is well known.
IMHO rushing the game = victory mid February. If I want to have everything I will play till mid March.
Re Saving Helena: IMHO it is part of the game to decide which missions are worthwhile. The last time I did this mission was in Vanilla.
In general, yes: human enemies can be a challenge.
IMHO , normal difficulty should be chill and enjoyable
I played your Terror about a year ago and it was great, I came back to try it again but I hate this, sorry but I really do and that's just on Normal difficulty
Too many enemy , many maps with human enemy 13+ against my 9, enemy better weapons and armour and skills
I start in the open, no cover, enemy in buildings with 4 snipers doing 80% damage a shot to my head one end of the map to the other.
Sorry but you need to chill the fk out on normal difficulty,
I don't want to have to rush the game to try stay ahead,
I dont want 13 enemy that close me out of completing the 2nd Anu faction mission
I dont want my A team getting pawned
The human enemies are BS over powered.

Lvl. 3 Mutoid skill: Syphon Attack = 1 AP melee attack that heals 50 HP. Unlocked after Triton Autopsy.
Lvl. 5 Mutoid skill: Regeneration = restore 10 HP to all body parts each turn. Unlocked after Triton Autopsy.
Reaper (an Impossible Weapon) = vampiric melee strike (80 HP). Use a Mutoid Berserker for no fumble chance.
