Biomes! Prehistoric brings to life a plethora of prehistoric plants and animals (mostly dinosaurs), with over 100 different species of prehistoric creature, we fill each and every biome with new plants and animals, even more with Biomes! Islands! Each and every vanilla biome has been given an overhaul of new life.
THIS MOD OVERHAULS VANILLA BIOMES, IT DOES NOT ADD A NEW BIOME.

While realism is the general goal for much of the creature art in this mod, some liberties are taken on a few for the sake of the "Rule of cool."

The rapid and unexpected re-terraforming of the Rimworld was nearly catastrophic for its various humanoid denizens, but its aftermath came with even more surprises. Gone were the majority of the species to which they had grown accustomed, instead they came to soon encounter many new species that had been extinct for many millennia back on Earth, brought back to life by the will and whim of an unfathomable Archotech.

This mod is safe to add mid-game.

And yes, we are more or less taking over for Dinosauria! Check out their steam page for a fun surprise!

  • Over 70 new land animals
  • Over 20 new aquatic animals
  • 6 new Pterosaurs
  • Over 80 new prehistoric plants
  • A full soundtrack of prehistoric-themed music by Dendroid!!
  • Multiple dinos can be used as pack animals and/or ridden in caravans
  • Most dinos can be trained to various capacities
  • All dinos lay eggs, with Compies able to lay unfertilized eggs
  • All three types of raptor can be sheared for Proto-Feathers, a type of "wool"
  • Some dinosaurs give special trophy items when butchered, such as the T-rex
  • Baby dinosaurs can spawn in the wild
  • Some dinosaurs pack-hunt. (This includes your poor innocent colonists)
  • Some dinosaurs are piscivores and will eat fish from water tiles (They will hunt normally when they cannot access water)

3 mod options to customize your prehistoric content:
  • Animals Only: Adds Dinos but NOT plants to the world
  • Animals and Plants: Adds Dinos and Prehistoric plants to the world
  • Prehistoric World: Makes ONLY prehistoric plants and animals spawn in the wild.

Unfortunately, for now at least, the music soundtrack (though custom made) is not streamer friendly! The CC license will be updated to change this IF possible.

Special thanks:
Jecrell: Many thanks to him for the amazing Biomes! word logo design.
Elseud for the new Biomes! preview images.
Pyrce for Terrainmovementkit.
Taranchuck for some custom special code.
RangerRick for help with the discord.
Spincrus for Dinosauria and giving us the mantle of "The" Rimworld dino mod.

Giddyup - You can ride dinos! (Saddle textures will be coming at some point in the future! Sooner if someone wants to pay for it!)

A Dog Said - Most of the dinos are patched to work with that mod, but the ones from the 1.4 update are not yet.

Medieval Overhaul - Dinos will drop hides if you use the github version of MO. It autopatches for it in that version.

Vanilla Expanded Plants (Both mods) - Just be sure to put Prehistoric AFTER them in the load order.

VE Genetics - Sarg has done at least a preliminary patch for this!

Dinosauria, Regrowth: Extinct Animals, and Megafauna - Creatures from this mod will show up alongside the ones from Prehistoric!

Q: Does this require Biomes! Core?
A: Yep! Literally all Biomes! mods will require Core.

Q: Is it CE compatible?
A: Not at the moment, sorry!

Q: Why are aquatic animals and pterosaurs not showing up in my game?
A: You need to be using Pathfinding Framework for them to spawn, as it requires code from that mod.

Q: Why are chromatic dinos not showing up? Where can I find them?
A: You need to be using Biomes! Chromatic Oasis alongside this mod as they only spawn in that biome.

Q: Does this mod work alongside other biome mods?
A: Yes, but if you run into any biomes that need a patch let us know.

Q: How does this mod compare to dinosaur mods like Dinosauria?
A: Our mod features both a higher amount of dinosaurs than Dinosauria, adds plants, and has more unique aspects as well, such as aquatic "dinos" if you use Biomes! Islands.

Q: How can I change how often prehistoric stuff shows up vs. non-prehistoric?
A: We have a few mod settings available that you can tweak!

Q: Where should I put it in the load order?
A: After any and all VE plants mods! There's some weird issue with prehistoric plants not spawning otherwise.

Q: Where can I find the music from this mod?
A: Right here!: https://justinmarshallelias.bandcamp.com/album/music-expanded-prehistoric

Q: Is there anywhere I can see info on all the animals in the mod?
A: Yes, right here! https://github.com/biomes-team/BiomesPrehistoric/wiki/Animals

Q: I'm getting an error in Fluffy's Mod Manager where it says something about needing Biomes! Core version 0.0.0, what do I do?
A: You either report it to that mod, or do nothing. It is safe to ignore.

Sorry, ignore my deleted comment. I realized that I removed it via Cherry Picker.

Second attempt they got home, put the eggs in storage, and all hatched wild.
Could be another mod, but I wouldn't know where to start with it.

This last attempt, the Ornithomimus egg hatched before the caravan could get home. It was tagged as part of the caravan, but was wild. *shrugs*

@ShadowX116 Weird, last I did that event in game I could have sworn they hatched tamed. If not that should be changed if possible. As is if it's not working right, I think babies have a much easier tame chance?
ShadowX116 Nov 3 @ 6:44pm
With the Dino Nest event, how exactly do you claim the eggs?
I've had attempts where I get the eggs, bring 'em home and they just hatch as wild.
How do we have them hatch tamed? If we don't, what's the point?

the dev at ReGrowth decided to remove theirs

I am having an error when i try to use this with Regrowth Core, i think it might be the same issue as Aziz!
Aziz Oct 18 @ 4:57am
Thanks 🌹
The game in unplayable without your mods.

Biomes! Prehistoric is trying to patch ReGrowth 1, not ReGrowth 2

Not sure why?
Cheloman Oct 16 @ 1:23pm
Hi there, I tried to run this mod with Regrowth and I got an error in my logs. After some testing and help, it seen there's the issue that now Regrowth doesn't have a grassland biome due to being included in Odyssey, therefore there may be an issue with trying to apply to the Regrowth version of grassland.

Here're the logs if that may help
