America At War | An American Rework

Description
America At War is an overhaul for the United States built from the ground up with immersion, flexibility and a vanilla-like experience in mind. The military part of the national focus tree has been completely overhauled while some changes have been made to the existing tree. Much more is planned including additional work on the national focus tree, new designers, new events, new generals and more, but I've reached a point where I'd like to get player feedback on the work so far.

Inspiration is taken from work on my Hearts of Iron III mod, Realistic Progression Mod (props to jasonf for continuing the work in HOI3/HOI4), and Kaiserreich's American tree.

Current Features Summary:

  • Completely redesigned military section of the USA national focuses with unique ideas and icons
  • Completely redesigned political tree for the USA national tree
  • Changes to existing focuses (no more every focus taking 70 days!)
  • Changes to the Great Depression national spirits (harsher starting out, no more American juggernaut by 1938)
  • New generals and admirals

The new military focuses aren't ideology bound, so if you decide to deviate from the historical path you can still benefit.

Current Mod Version: 0.2.63

Compatibility

This mod should be compatible with any mod that isn't a total conversion or doesn't change the United States files. I use a ton of mods myself and haven't had any issues. The most common reported issue is with advisors or MIOs not working properly. If you experience this, it's likely due to a mod conflict.

Confirmed Mod Conflicts:
  • UTTNH_2.0 makes changes to the USA MIOs. If you use this mod with UTTNH_2.0, MIOs won't work or may not function as intended. As a workaround, you can go into the files for UTTNH_2.0 and simply delete the USA_organization.txt from \common\military_industrial_organization\organizations. I've been doing this myself when playing that mod. I may make a compatibility patch in the future if possible.
  • Expert AI doesn't work with AAW. It may work if you delete the USA files in that mod, but I haven't tested this.

Note this mod was made with all DLC activated, but I don't believe any are required.

Definitely not achievement compatible.

Credits

u/potatissallad9 from r/HOI4 for the Norman Thomas portrait
Kaiserreich team for leader portraits (additional generals, admirals and company logos)

Usage

You can use assets from the mod as long as you ask for permission and give credit however you can not take everything from our mod and upload it. It must be a unique project.

@WhiteDragon25 The Fascist path is being worked on. Don't worry.

One other thing that came to mind regarding the Socialist/Communist tree, actually: the vanilla focuses that are now under the 'Communist' side of the tree could really be shared by both sides of the tree, as there's nothing about them that is explicitly 'Communist' (or rather, Marxist-Leninist, and more specifically Browderist). If the ideological divide you have between Thomas's SPA and Browder's CPUSA is an important factor, then giving the latter more flavor unique to them should be considered.

On a similar note, the Fascist tree could have some branches focusing on what the core movement is: Neo-Confederates, American Nazis, Business Plotters 2.0, or what? Also, minor nitpick: the Voter Registration Act focus in the Fascist branch is kinda pointless, as you currently have it that when the Fascists take over, the rule-set changes to 'No Public Elections are Held'.

@WhiteDragon25 Funny enough during a recent rework of the tree, I did think about moving the Desegregation focuses to around the Chiefs of Staff area. I'm not opposed to the idea of moving it since if the Women's Armed Services Integration Act is there, why not desegregation. I might do so in a future update.

You have an interesting idea on making some things open to all ideologies. It's something I'll think about and may do down the road (not sure when).

@King Katze THE 2st (Dylan) Thank you for the kind words!

This looks good, but one thing I noticed: you have the "Desegregate the Armed Forces" and "Full Desegregation" Focuses be entirely exclusive to the Socialist/Communist branch; they should really be shared with the Democratic branches as well, since Truman desegregated the military in 1948, and full desegregation isn't entirely out of the realm of possibility following on from that.

Additionally, there's stuff like the US-Soviet Alliance/Shatter the Empires and the War Powers Act sub-branches that could also be shared with the Democratic branches, as those could be plausible alt-history paths that don't necessarily require a full switch away from Democratic to Communism or Fascism for them to happen (at least, that was the original intention PDX had in mind in their tree's design).

That aside, this looks all good. Keep up the work!

Yeah nah this is way better.

@erintumbarello Definitely not. They have their own overhaul of the US.
